New DLC: Polynesia

cool story bro. in one of the threads on this website, one of my ideas for a new wonder for civ 5 was the porcelain tower.

did i mention that I was the first to mention the early embarkation idea on the 2k forums?

I probably mentioned it here before you, so there :p

So... now for the debate. Do you play As Polynesia first and see all the new stuff first hand, or Against Polynesia to see the Kamehameha?

I generally prefer to play against them. This time I might make a quick game to see him and then restart and play as him. It feels like such a different style that it's worth playing as before playing against.

Sounds like a plan :)

I might make a quick game to play against him, then play the scenario.

Why include a civilization that can't make a two-story house? That was my problem with the Iriqious (or however you spell it).

Have you seen some of the Iroquois' Palisaded villages? Some of them bring castles to shame. Although Longhouses were only one story (with lofts), so I guess you win here. :(

I mentioned a Maori Warrior on the 2K forums, I'm quite surprised it made it in. Not unpleased, however.

I know people whine about Polynesians not being a "great" civ. I say stuff that snobbery up...you know...please. Polynesia has never been in Civ and it's GREAT that they're finally in. Personally I think making giant voyages across the Pacific in canoes is a great feat....better than those scurvy-infested European ships that barely made it to the same places. :P

My problem with Privateers is similar to i.e. Musketeers: the time period in which they are useful is so short that by the time you build them and get them to the battlefield they are obsolete.
In fact, take the NWS Piracy frigates and i've got no objection of having such gameplay features... but Privateers, gosh - pillaging again & again & again & once more & why not overthere too (nobody knows who's at the helm) -- it gets booooooorrrriiiinng after two games worth of the same whole tricks of stinging nuisance as opposed to real Naval Combat for reasons.

Sorry to interrupt again, but when is the release date for this DLC? It says "friday the third" on this thread, but my calendar says that the third is a thursday. So did they mean Friday the fourth? Or did they mean Thursday the third?

I've heard 'Thursday the third' tossed around more than 'Friday the fourth'
