New Expansion Speculation Thread

Must resist the urge to use the T word here. I won't. And of course his personality isn't great, but it is "distinctive". Who knows, maybe he will be a civ leader in Civ 20. :)

Yep; bang on. Trump fits the bill.

And what the frack is that suppose to mean? I refuse to think I'm the only one here that belives that most of humanity greatest leaders have great personalities. I simply can not think about anyone, so please instruct me.

Well, all personalities are "great". But not all are especially loud or entertaining, or fit that well into a certain agenda. Cleo was clearly chosen to play a seductive role, which has some historical precedence with Caesar, and Mark Antony. Like bbbt states below - a king like Henry VIII, or a PM like Churchill, they aren't the best leaders England/the U.K. had (Churchill has a case :p ); but they are both big colourful characters who make for good interactions.

Again - I have no problem with more reserved personalities being in the game if they were one of the greatest leaders of their Civs. I suspect though after the dose of Prozac that most the leaders in V were; lively leaders in VI was a welcome change.

Well, usually 'big personality' is used to mean someone is loud/outgoing/center of attention in the room. Firaxis seems to be using it to mean 'famous in pop history' and or 'can be summarized with a few adjectives/neat anecdotes'. I.e. if they have the choice between the leader who was a swashbuckling pirate or a competent technocrat, they'd probably choose the former. Not whether they actually had a good personality.

Teddy Roosevelt fits the bill, Cleopatra fits the bill, I've been joking that I'm surprised they didn't go with Henry the VIII for England, but honestly Victoria theoretically fits the bill even though her characterization in Civ 6 is pretty much the opposite of everything associated with her (the stereotype of conservative, stiff-upper-lip English).

Having said that they've absolutely gone with more of the 'competent technocrat' sort of choice over 'louder'/more famous options in a number of cases. For example Phillip II of Spain (despite his characterization), Trajan as well in that category imho (I know it's a little reductive to call them both that, but in comparison to other options).

Yeah, they did water down the "big personality" approach. I think it was flung around before vanilla to justify the Cleo's and Cat's who they knew would be controversial.

This thread is only 5 days old and it has 416 messages. That's crazy.

That's marketing for you. Even if some people think that marketing is only the structured release of information.

My hopes for this expansion are:

- Bigger city working radius.
- A colony/outpost system that allows you to work tiles outside the city radius.

It's the internet. Stuff like this doesn't take long to get viral (I mean, look at how long it took for Reddit and CivFanatics to find out) and since FourChan is of questionable morality/has only anon users/is viewed by tons of people every day, it's the best platform to introduce the scoop.

Yabbut, there's always one good apple that ruins it for everybody...

Seeing all these "marketing" and "review" updates in the Steam db I believe that build of the would be 2019 Feb expansion will be given to reviewers and youtube reviewer players to make big marketing after the Switch-version release - so I would say before Thanksgiving we can expect things to come... am I too optimistic? :)

Yes you are, but only slightly.
I think the announcement will come the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

The latest marketing video for the Switch version describes the religious victory as requiring you to convert half the world's cities. I see three possibilities:
1) the victory will work differently on the Switch than on other platforms.
2) the description in the video was inaccurate.
3) the victory requirement will be changed in an upcoming patch for the PC version, perhaps with the release of the next expansion.

Anyone think 3 is at all likely? It's not a change would I find particularly interesting.

I was about to comment this. :)
Commented on the original video.
1 No way.
I think it's 2.
However 3 sound not bad I gave religious victory to another CIV by mistake so many times, just by conquering cities.

Perhaps they meant half the cities in every empire?
I think that's most likely. There's no indication that they're changing core gameplay for the other platforms; it's probably sloppiness by the Switch marketing people. But I figured there's an outside chance we're getting a glimpse of upcoming changes.

Even after the Nintendo Switch Civ6 release, we will probably have to wait until November 28 for the 2nd expansion trailer. Rise and Fall's trailer was released on that date last year.

Converting half the cities in the world is likely just a very incorrect way of saying convert half of every civ's cities.

Well, it is correct. Half of every civ's cities is equal to half the total number of cities. But the actual requirement is a bit more specific.

Last week the gaming sites also wrote about the leak, there's even some quotes from this very thread!

https://www.pcinvasion.com/civilization-6-vesuvius-expansion-leak/

"Elsewhere, a Civfanatics forum post states that
“they’re updating the usual [Civilization publisher] 2K [Quality Assurance] test branches pretty regularly for over a month now,
including an unknown DLC. This unknown DLC is probably the second expansion.”
Whoa, I've been quoted! Wish I'd been more careful with my grammar - "they've been" would be better than "they're".

Funny how they both take the name Vesuvius as the actual name of the expansion. I'm pretty sure that the internal name. Of course, I've been wrong before. :p

Of course, I've been wrong before. :p
Don't worry about being wrong. It's not like anybody outside of this site will be quot . . . oh, wait. ;)
