New FFH Wiki

so all of the pages for every hero is finished. i do need a button for the black wind. if anybody has one and can post it, that would be really helpful. i am going to start working on buildings now.

Black Wind uploaded. It should have been in the button pack I gave you.

While I was uploading it, I noticed that you have the Hero Units Category pointing somewhere other than the list of Heroes. Not sure if that is intentional or not though.

yeah because there is the list of heros and then there is the actual hero promotion. thanks for uploading it. it may have been in taht pack you gave me but i couldnt find it. thanks for adding it in.

and i realized i already uploaded all the unit graphics but none of the buildings so im doing units first.

Maybe you should include a system that lets you track the version people are talking about. I am quite new to FFH so I always get confused about old and new information in the german wiki, especially when trying to find decent strategies for one of the many civs I haven't played yet :)

In some kind of actionism I copied some of my favourite strategy parts from the german wiki. Tell me if you like that and I will find some more, maybe also from the forum (with correct quotation).

xsansara- those strategy sections look really good. its just that since you are copying and pasting from the other wiki, some of the internal links are not working. like in this wiki the archmage page would be [[Archmage]] but the german one had it as [[FFH Archmage (Unit)]]. of course that isnt a big deal at all and is a quich and easy fix. anymore strategies you can add would be greatly appreciated!

as for noting what versions, i think it would be a bit complicated and i dont have records as to the differences between versions for units or techs so i think i am just going to try to make sure it is in line with the newest version available.

Hi jimi, I just talked to a friend of mine, who is little more techno-savvy. He proposed that instead of copying the strategies from the german wiki, we should instead link to it, so that any changes in the german wiki get automatically updated. I am not sure how this works, but I can ask him if you like.

well the german wiki is pretty good as a reference and that would be really good to link to it instead but it hasnt been updated in almost a year so i dont think that linking to it would save us time. I would rather just take what we can use from it but try to keep this wiki up to date.

Alright. I'll go on scavaging then :)

I also started to search the forum for good linkable threads and will add them to the wiki as apropriate. I wouldn't like to copy those, as the re-formatting will be a pain and the (at times) interesting answers would be lost.

so i entered all of the units into the unit class pages. i am just starting to make the actual articles for the units themselves. there are a lot of units so this will take a bit of time.

i am wondering if i should include a master list of all units on the main "Units" page and then leave the unit class pages up with their lists. i think it could get annoying for newbies who arent familiar with things like that a flesh golem isnt a melee unit and are looking for it.

also, i was thinking about the picture on the main page. it is pretty old and i am fairly sure ffh has more than 227 more units than vanilla. im thinking about changing it.

i am making progress entering articles for the units, slowly but surely. i also made a template for a navgation box to go at the bottom of the pages. to include it type {{FfH Box}}. i have never programmed or done work with wikis before i started this one so this nav box isnt the greatest thing. if anybody would like to make a better looking one, please feel free.

EDIT: Also, i need the button for the merryman unit. Thanks!

That could be it, already has a page for Revelers, so if that is the case Merryman can just be deleted.

For units you have the buttons uploaded for each Civ Specific Button, and it appears that they link to a Civ Specific Page. That isn't really needed, since they are still the same unit by stats, just a nice personalized button to look at. Possibly a better approach would be to just list the alternative buttons inside the Information page on each unit.

is merryman not the name of the balseraph warrior unit?

when i was planning on how to make the unit pages i was debating on whether to do a page for each civ's version of the unit and i thought it would be a good idea but it seems to be very time consuming. i am not even halfway done with the melee units when i could be finished with them by now.

i think you have a good idea xienwolf with just listing the different buttons on the page. i would like to be able to do it in a way however that doesnt look too cluttered. any ideas?

No special unit for Balseraph Warriors. They just get a normal Warrior (with a Unique button though)

For displaying the alternate buttons, just use a sidebar (upper Right Corner) that has all the variants I guess. Only advantage I see to making a special page for each Civilization would be to have Civ Specific Strategies, but you can just make sub-sections on the unit's page if the strategy is notably different for a certain Civ, because the cases will be rare (pretty sure everyone uses Warriors in exactly the same manner, though for Druids the Balseraphs should be warned to upgrade from a Harlequin instead of building them directly).

EDIT: Uploaded the Warrior_balseraphs.gif for you

i did a forum search and i didnt realize that the balseraph warrior had his name changed a while ago. shows how much i play balseraphs... anyways i think that sounds like better idea. that will definetly cut down the time it takes to make pages for all these units.

Looks good to me. Hopefully someone with some spare time on their hands comes around some day and puts screenshots of their in-game models in there as links too :) I had been picturing putting it on the right hand info box right under the "Upgrades to" line, but I think yours is far better (would be cluttered in that tiny box on the side)
