New Fog of War tiles?

Maybe this isn't new and I missed something in a recent patch, but there appears to be a new fog of war tile-set present in one of the screenshots in the auto-explore discussion? I'd assume this is just cosmetic, but it does have distinctly medieval vibes to it. Thoughts?

The modern ones are awesome, though seldom seen. Maybe it's just the deluxe tiles, but one is an awesome atom bomb design and the other is a beautiful art deco style civ 7 logo.

Where did this screenshot came from? It's not only about tiles. Scout doesn't have a dog and probably there are other things too.

Is it me more do the vegetated tiles look less sparse too?

Edit: went n joined the discord to check, the screenshot is directly from Sarah

Civ Discord is running a Feedback session on Auto-Exploration and what we'd want (it's quite enlightening), they set it up with few screenshots to give it so some flavour, the screenshot came from there.

I can't be alone in thinking they have picked a silly thing to address the fans live with. But maybe they wanted to start small and simple.

I would never automate a scout. That's some of the most fun for me, scouting new terrain for various reasons. Maximizing potential by using my knowledge to squeeze the land for everything it can give me. For me, again, the first 100 turns are the best part of every civ game.

But for people who don't like the early game sure. I'm keeping a good attitude and hoping they picked a simple thing to start with and will get into more complex things soon. I'm old and have never used discord.

It's part of old fans expectations, since auto scouting was in previous games. Together with larger maps, Firaxis tries to close "the game even doesn't have X" type of complains.

I wish they'd start with the game doesn't even have at least 20 hotkeys that were in every other game, or the ability to do several of those functions at all, making the keyboard nearly useless and the game infuriating in modern. But I get it.

Well, they do it as well. "Repair all" is coming in several days and I hope for some hotkeys in the UI improvements too.

On that and various different missing feature topics I'm wondering if anyone tried to dig through various settings files game creates? My development experience tells me that something first is hardcoded in source code, then it goes into configuration file to be able to change it without the need to rebuild project every time, and then eventually configuration file is modified through in-game settings implemented in UI. Might be that they are at step 2 for some of requested features. I recall that close after release of civ 6 I was able to disable one setting I didn't like not available in-game by finding it in *.ini file (it might have been unit auto-cycle but not sure at this point). I would check it myself, but I don't own the game, but I assume there is enough technical people on this forum to dig this sort of things out. Maybe folllowing this assumption there is nothing like that because it would be already dug up, but worth checking?

Auto explore is standard and should have come on day one. The same with quick move. These are standard quality of life features that are essentially industry standard in 2025.

That's why Firaxis gives those features high priority now. But first priority features were the ones to make game playable. Things like auto-explore are expected by fans, but are not strictly required to play and enjoy the game.

Lots of people would disagree with you here. Auto explore is not for me, but it is silly to pretend it’s not a core feature for a great number of players.

It's depends on the definition of "core". In MoSCoW prioritization it clearly comes as "should", but not "must" - players are upset without it, but you could still play.

Playability as the bar for success? The bar is on the floor.

Anyway, I’m glad it’s being fixed, and the new graphics are interesting.

It's not about bar of success. All I was talking are priorities.
Ok, I’m dropping it as we are getting off subject—I just don’t know if it is necessary or wise to defend every decision made by Firaxis when they decided to release the game when it was (almost objectively) not ready for release. Sometimes it’s best to say—“hey, this should have been in there day one.” And then leave it at that.

For many people $70 is not the price of a AAA title that is just “playable” on day one.

As I’ve said, auto explore is not something I enjoy—manually moving the scout and exploring my new environment is one of the most exciting features of antiquity for me.

However, I can step outside of my personal experience and understand that this is considered undesirable micromanagement for a great deal of players. It was a common complaint. I’m glad it’s being fixed for them, but it would have been obviously preferable for the game to be launched with this feature.

Agreed, I'd rather they didn't spend one minute on this!
