NEW Handicap's

Setting 20 means that the Ai only expands when able to run positive gold with no more than 20% set on Gold on the slider. I did try it with 0 but found that the Ai then did not expand enough.
Considering that I also expand at times before my current income is capable of it and can build up to managing I though the AI could do the same.

Cheers

@BG,

Have you considered making this a Mod mod? You've obviously put much effort and thought into this. I for one would like to see how this works as you address some of my complaints over the years about the early civics trying to be city expansion chokers just for the H*** of it.

And the Civic set has never been a "completed set" since the removal of Edrinfall's set several years ago.

If you or SO can make this a modmod I'd be very willing to test.

Thanks for your effort here. :)

Its in the latest SVN already, look in that thread what was changed:p;)

That's what brought me to this thread, your post in the SVN thread And DH's question to you about it.

Now is it, to clarify my understanding, just in the Nightmare Option? Or in the main Main Mod now? So I can know what I need to do to get to see these changes.

Thanks

Well actually both :p

But referring to "i guess" what your talking about :p

All the the great stuff BG did is in the Normal C2C, Except the NEW Handicap system he devised also for it.

I was playing a nightmare deity game last week before I went to vacation.. for me it was in no way an overwhelming difficulty. AFAIR, when I left the game it was somewhere in reneissance with me being in the top 3 techwise with no huge leads by anybody. So I wouldn't mind a difficulty level or two more.

One thing which does currently seem a little bit unbalanced to the AI's favour is culture. Even AIs who are technologically and otherwise inferior crush the culture of my border cities. There is no way to catch up with AI even with building multiple cathedrals. I think I had over 5 cathedrals (+ all the major other culture goodies) in some of my border cities and still it was getting culturally overrun..

@chmoosi: Were you playing with Tech Diffusion on? That makes a big difference when doing the higher difficulties in keepiung you @par with the AI after a while. From the start you are behind and get a big bonus in tech until catching up. After that the AI gets the bonus.

Without Tech Diffusion it is harder and takes longer to catch up. That is why I have, since the latest changes in Tech Diffusion, started to play without it on at all.

@ the lower diffs the AI gets the boost almost from start, again keeping the game tighter.

Cheers

Bluegenie: Ah, was tech diffusion the reason for weirdly boosted research speeds I encountered at many points in the game?

Btw I still think the Deity level culture for the AI is excessive.

Yes.

The culture I have no idea about except that I imagine you get a penalty and they get a bonus in culture and as Culture is the only variable that is directly and only by city to city you can see the big difference easier. Science and gold and other variables are also with a bonus but both harder to spot directly in-game as well as easier to offset by the human player.

Sorry for double posting but
@SO
I missed a change I had made in the files I attached. Due to the miss of City Limits, which were not supposed to change, I am posting what shoudl be changed here:

In WorldInfo, Distance Maintenance, iDistanceMaintenancePercent, should be, from Duel to Gigantic:
300
275
250
225
200
175
150
125

And a tweak to NumCity Maintenances, iNumCitiesMaintenancePercent, from Duel to Gigantic:
600
550
500
450
400
350
300
250

Also please remove Immense and Enormous sizes (again) as I had those still in my WorldInfo.

Easier to just attach a new updated file based on the SVN file instead of an old, old file as I found more things taht had been updated since my base file.
Also means Alberts need not update the City scales anymore, unless wanting to fix the Tiny/Small/Standard discrepancy.

Cheers

That would be it. I do not know how to make it into a non-national wonder so that was the only way I could solve it. If you or someone else can cap it at max 2 without making it into a national wonder then that would be great.

Is this another method for curbing expansion? Looks like a variant of City Limits. I have reservations. Again is this Only for the Nightmare Option or now for the Main game too?

Its in the main game, but its classified as a Wonder even though it is not, there is no way to get it to read correctly, any other way, so its a "choice" to built it or not, hows that?? Plus its only under Anarchism.

Thanks for the info.

Without that building you would end up with too much initial Maintenance, costing you even for a single city, your capital. A second city would cripple anyone almost completely.

The building, which should autobuild actually, only works while in Anarchism Civic and removes City Maintenance on the first two cities while in Anarchism.

This gives the civs a chance to build some income until switching to Chiefdom later on when they can handle having City Maintenances.

Cheers

I have never had a problem building 5-6 cities under Chiefdom. Maintenance was never the killer just a good challenge, happiness is a bigger block if limits are on.

(Monarch level, Giant map)

With the increased maintenance costs.
Might be Monarch still has no problems, I have tested it out on Deity mainly to see that expansion, albeit slow, is still possible. On lower difficulties it should be easier to expand, I see it especially with the AI as it is on Noble and always now managing to outexpand me once past Ancient and into Classical Era.

Well Classical is as far as I got and I moved up to Monarch because at Prince I was able to exapnd much quicker than AI.

I would love to still have the option of the old system
