New Succession Game

By raze I meant raze. Like I said, we have less than 20% of the Dutch culture so capturing a core town next to their other core towns would flip back to them almost immediately. Filling it with units would probably only mean the loss of those units as well. Capturing and keeping the town would be crazy in my opinion.

If we don't want to raze any towns then we should start advancing from their rear and capture the core towns the last.

I wouldn't go for the horseman upgrades but then again, it's not my turn yet :)

But right after you said "raze," you said that we should quell the angry mobbers and the flip risk would go down  . I'd actually be in favor of razing, but the way you said it, it sounded like you had made a typo or something.

Would you not go for upgrades because it's exploitive, or you don't think it's worth it?

Ah, I meant the three captured Hittite towns that are still in resistance and only with one defender each. The flip risks are quite high at the moment.

I wouldn't go for the horsemen upgrades for, well, because of both reasons you mentioned. I am almost always for going full speed towards the next tech and lowering the science down because of upgrading obsolete units built on purpose doesn't sound that great to me. I'm not shooting down the idea but I am not for it. If the others want it, I'm cool with it though.

Thing is, our economy is so strong that one turn of shutting off research will get us about 6 upgrades. Horses take much, much less time to build than cavalry. And if we finish off the Dutch, whether or not we delayed researching Steam Power for a couple turns or not won't really matter. The number one priority right now is destroying the Dutch.

True true. However we decide to go, let's hope for a leader. I can't remember the last time I've played a game where I didn't have a single army when I had cavalry. I almost always have at least one army before the knight era.

Yes, I had half a dozen elite wins or so also. We stood much better chances to get a leader than to get a flip against us. I'm by no means complaining, and this is not all that unusual, either.

You can guess my opinion about disconnect/connect :p
Sigh, you guys just do anything that's convenient, do you? But I'll just close my eyes.

I'd rather do short-rushing with research set low to get Cavalry built fast, that seems far less exploitative to me than connect-disconnect. A few turns of lowered research can buy lots of Cavalry.

Edit: Looking over the save, we are not ready for a war. Without roads leading to our frontline cities, they would be captured immediately, and the WW would just be too high. I want some defenders there so that they would be bypassed, then we could pick off their fast units. The war does need started soon, but I want to win it. I also noticed we can sell Physics to Persia for 70 gold and 34 gpt.

I think we are ready, but just barely. On Sid, you have to take any window of opportunity without waiting even a little bit, but on DG, you can afford to wait and get more ready. I understand that you'd want more roads and defenders, but the 3 speed of the cavalry is probably the best defense, and defenders only need to go into cities that can be struck in one turn (and there are quite a few of those). Obviously, we're not ready this turn, but after some troop organization we could be ready in 5 or so turns. Of course, that doesn't mean we couldn't wait a little longer. It's up to you. I'd be fine with waiting until rails so that our front size doesn't matter at all.

I realize that that paragraph wasn't clear at all. What I mean is that a couple turns worth of troop organization and road building will make us prepared enough to declare war, but that doesn't mean that you couldn't also wait a little longer if you'd be more comfortable. The sooner we declare war, the fewer Dutch cavalry there will be, of course, but with half of our front jungly, I think they'll be manageable.

Are we razing or keeping? If we move fast we can keep what we take, but we'd have to take all their cities to eliminate them, and this map seems to have tons of islands they can hide on. We'll need some boats to go find them. Also, are we going to build all those unis? Or are they mostly placeholders?

I thought the Dutch didn't have saltpeter? Anyway, I like the idea of prioritizing Haarlem and Breda to take out their iron supplies early. If I'm not mistaken, two explorers could actually pillage them within the first turn.

Any update TheOverseer714? If you're waiting for my and Optional's answers to your raze/keep question, we already gave our opinions on that. I am for razing while Optional is against it but doesn't mind if we do.

No, just slow because of the holiday, I'll probably run the rest of my set tomorrow, today will be too busy, cookout, fireworks, etc.

In two days, I've got to leave to a place without civilization for about a month. I will still be able to find internet access and will be able to comment on the game and discuss it, but unless the next four sets are played unreasonably quickly, I don't see myself getting another 10 in. Just a heads up, so I'll remove myself from the roster.

Roster-
Overseer- playing
Daeron- on deck
Salarakas
Optional

I'm about done, the war has begun, there has been progress. Own, I can send the save as is, I have been unreasonably slow here. Holiday weekends and women are often the enemy of a fast-moving SG, and I have fallen victim to both at the same time. If you want to grab a few quick turns, I will relinquish the save.

Yes, play a game or pursue the good stuff. Tough choice there...

Fortunately, I won't have a girlfriend this school year, so I could actually play some SGs (most likely as s weekend warrior, since it'll be my junior year in high school).

this is what i call dedication about a game - knowing IN ADVANCE that you won´t waste time with a girl for a year! ;)

i realize i do know very little about the life of highschool students. maybe should get myself a copy of "grease" to educate on this topic.
