reading the Wikipedia , the magazine article and one single random website , it is obvious that USAF F-15 pilot Tollini was cleared for the top honours of killing some random Russians and whatnot by firing into Iran for some reason but the most up to date version of the Combat Tree was truly a female dog on the day . Delicious spicy food and hot summer weather are two of Turkey’s greatest assets. But when these two ingredients combine, you’re going to need something to keep temperatures from getting out of hand. Thankfully, Turkey has you covered on this front too, with a drink so refreshing, it’s a mystery to some why everyone hasn’t heard of it.

This is ayran, a deceptively simple mix of fresh yogurt, water and salt. After a sweltering or strenuous afternoon in the sun, slurping down a chilled glass of this tasty combination will leave your body gasping with appreciation. It may not match everyone’s taste, and will be off-limits to some dietary requirements, but the appeal of ayran — pronounced eye-ran — is undeniable. It’s been drunk in the region where Europe meets Asia for centuries and today is sold in various forms across Turkey and several other countries.


And its refreshing properties get a big thumbs up from science.

“Consuming ayran is an important means of restoring mineral balance lost through perspiration in the summer, due to its natural mineral content and the presence of added salt,” Professor Barbaros Özer from Ankara University’s Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Dairy Technology told CNN. He explained that the beverage contains valuable minerals and protein.

That’s not all. Another surprising benefit is the drink’s effects on digestive and intestinal health. “Ayran plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of gastrointestinal health and the intestinal microbiota,” added Özer.

A thousand-year-old refreshment​

It's believed ayran has been enjoyed by Turkic peoples for nearly 1,000 years.

Turkic peoples are believed to have been producing ayran for at least a millennium — making it about 900 years older than Coca-Cola.

Thanks to Besim Atalay, a Turkish linguist who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, ayran’s roots have been traced back to the 11th century, gaining a mention in Mahmud al-Kashgari’s Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk, the first-known dictionary of Turkic languages, written at the time. It’s safe to say that ayran is a product of necessity. Fermented food and drink like cheese, yogurt and ayran are perfect for long journeys. Turkic nomads prepared fermented dairy products to extend their usability, helping overcome the formidable climate of the steppes, the vast, treeless grasslands they called home.

While Turks migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia (the land that makes up most of modern day Turkey), ayran moved with them. Editor and gastronomy researcher Merin Sever told CNN that we know through historical travelogues that people in Anatolia prepared ayran. Their daily meals also included “bread chopped into yogurt or bread added as a supplement to ayran.” During their migration, Turks probably left traces of the drink, influencing other cultures.

Iran’s doogh is similar to a type of ayran, called yayık ayran, in Turkey, a byproduct of buttermilk production. Central Asian Turkic people have chal and kumis. However, these two are made of fermented milk — camel milk and mare’s milk, respectively. While most ayran is made of yogurt, the commercial mass production of the drink includes a milk fermentation process. “Industrial ayran is produced in two different ways: either by diluting yogurt to the targeted protein content, or by fermenting milk after it has been diluted to the target protein level,” explains Özer.

A true Turkish experience​

Traditionally, Ayran is often served in copper cups.

Today, ayran is not only a part of a thousand-year-old Turkish culinary tradition but also among the most commercialized drinks in modern Turkey. From shelves in large supermarkets to street food vendor barrels, it quenches thirst and accompanies meals across the country.
Even global fast-food brands like McDonald’s and Burger King include ayran as an option in their meals in Turkey. At a kebab restaurant or a büfe — small food vendors that serve Turkish fast food such as döner sandwiches — when you order ayran, you may be asked: “Do you want open ayran (açık ayran) or closed ayran (kapalı ayran)

To make sense of this, you need to be familiar with ayran culture. Closed ayran is packaged and mass-manufactured, while open ayran is freshly mixed to order in restaurants and vendors. Most Turkish people prefer open ayran because… Well, it’s somehow more delicious.

Anyone looking for a genuine traditional experience should look for places where ayran is served in copper cups, such as kebab shops called “ocakbaşı,” where you can sit in front of the grills and watch your meal order prepared on metal skewers. To watch meat cook slowly over sizzling embers — liquid fat dripping down, spreading an appetizing smell — and sipping ice-cold ayran from its copper cup is a true Turkish experience.

Or, following a night out in Istanbul’s buzzing Taksim district, stopping at a food carts selling pilaf (rice dish) with several toppings — mostly chicken or chickpeas — in Taksim Square or on İstiklal Street and checking to see if they have a plastic barrel with a tap. Inside are liters of delicious homemade ayran.

In fact, pilaf and ayran are among the methods Turks use to combat hangovers.

A simple drink with hundreds of recipes​

The drink is sometimes served with mint.

While it’s simple and straightforward to prepare ayran, there are many variations. Susurluk ayran, local to the Susurluk district of Balıkesir, a city in northwestern Turkey, is usually prepared from a yogurt with a higher content of fat, which creates a foam on the drink’s surface.
Yayık ayran is another widespread type that is a byproduct of butter making. Buttermilk replaces yogurt, which creates a highly frothy texture and a less tangy taste.

Turkey’s eastern Malatya region is known for its spicy ayran, prepared with green or red hot chili peppers. It has a distinct taste that appeals to fans of sweet and sour, or sweet and salty foods.
There are likely hundreds of other recipes. For example, you can add a pinch of mint for extra refreshment, or even skip adding salt. Sometimes, sparkling mineral water is used instead of still for a crisper taste.

Many factors affect the taste of ayran besides extra ingredients like pepper, salt, or mint. Mostly, however, it comes down to the yogurt. “Which milk was used to make the yogurt, how fatty was the yogurt, the yeast that was used to make it, and how it was used — industrial or traditional methods were used — all impact the taste of ayran,” Sever, the gastronomy researcher, explained.

Associate Professor Özge Samancı, head of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department at Turkey’s Özyeğin University, agrees: “A good, fatty yogurt gives ayran its flavor.”

ı have never saw anyone drinking ayran in copperware . Possibly in "tourism related stuff" that justifies the highway robbery with "authentic atmosphere" . Yeah , if this was a newspaper this would be paid advertisement ... like can't find some random thread , not even the random things thread and because it is Turkish , is here no doubt .

so , is this PM's new attack in the culture war ? He decides what will be talked about , that he sets the main topic of discussion is his long time boast and he himself says he would be finished if he wasn't able to do that ... It has long been the programme to make this country one of sea and sand for middle class Germans , somewhat affluent Russians and British riffraff . Who are famous for a new outrage each year as they made up fradulent claims of bad service in a bid to not to pay anything . The prices are high for Turks , the staff are increasingly Eastern and their nationalism thing is encouraged to grow by external actors which means actual bad service becomes the staple . Meaning the secretary for tourism of the palace cabinet who still organizes tours to and sells destinations in Greek islands is now talking about nationalism . Nobody listens to him , these last two years seeing vast numbers of people swearing not to have an holiday in this country again . Meaning Kurdish drug running profits are now buying a lot places in Greek islands . The ruin of seaside of this country reported now in Greece , with prices increasing rapidly . these are American F-16s , somewhere in the Middle East , waiting for the big one with Iran . Nobody is still ever telling them that there will be a bigger task if that was to happen ; they will naturally think Russians or something . My attempts to identify aircraft weaponry remains unpractised since the 1990s , but they have two external fuel tanks , the HARM (missile) targeting system pod thing to let them be aware that evil Iranians are about to fire an S-300 at them . And some rather big IR/Camera thing . The blog that dispenses Pentagon's lies gives the value of weapons on the rear one to be something like 2 million dollars . The center piece being those two cylinders side by side on a single pylon . They are lazer guided 70mm rockets that can kill drones . That's like 50 years of stuff there . With the US Army being the first to demand lazer guided weapons as soon as the lazer became passably possible . Artillery shells took until 80s or so , with the 155mm Copperhead ; 70mm rockets until 2010s or thereabouts , volume matters a lot when the tech is not mature enough ...

yeah , the plane at the back can engage upto 18 drones , with the gun definitely not to up to it or too risky . The forward one , has like 3 million dollars of stuff on it , and optimised for alien interception , ufo engagements , fighting extraterrestials and similar BS . The number of cube things shot down by Israelis was reported to be under 10 , meaning Americans might have hit some to round the number , especially during the Israelis beating or not beating or whatever in their recent clashes with the Iranian territory proper . Where USAF jets did hit lots of drones of Iranian make . When an Amraam costs a million dollars and a new type Sidewinder 450 thousands , one really needs things (like costing under 20 000 dollars) to hit stuff that might still be cheaper .

Most certainly not as crazy as a bunch of Turks who actually understand high tech , like in the 70s before the matchless brilliant geniouses of these days were born and move the earth and stuff . Seeing a Cray , they had the idea that a day would come that they would be able to buy machines as powerful as that one and they hired American people before it was a common idea around to write software one day their Turkish followers could use investigating aerodynamic issues .

Like the last F-16 USAF bought is now older than 20 years old , they are meant to retire the A-10 totally and the F-15C/D force as soon as practically , they are even killing the B-1B because Lockmart is a blackhole or something , nothing can escape its brilliance , certainly no defence funds . Roper's second Navy fighter of 2017 is now set to become an early 40 , it is going on , it is like , you know , promising , a fresh breath , something not the F-35 ...

the USAF generals , before shut up by other USAF generals , want it early . A Gen 4.5 jet . Meaning while it has the general fashionable lines of Stealth platforms , it will not have the radar absorbing coatings , internal stuff to attenuate radar returns and thermal management , stuff ı have no idea about . USAF being the larger customer , do not even think about adding home made electronics or anything , everything and everything needs Pentagon approval . so , how does that work ?



by a blogger and not official by any means , this compares a new Gripen , an usual F-16 and Su-30 , in coincidence proudly owned by Indians . Like change the Gripen with a Rafale and it should remain the same . Lower radar returns as measured in those square meters mean Gripen has an advantage against an F-16 . Gripens should be able to fire on F-16s , should turn hard and speed away and it would be only bad luck for some Gripens to be hit , while all F-16s would either die or run .
