New Units: Assorted Sept 5th 2003

Excellent! Kiss Kiss..just a little more boody kissin to a great unit maker.

Ugh, I love it all. The swashbuckler guy is sweet, even if he is wielding a broadsword instead of a rapier. I love it, I love it, I love it all. The more humanoid pre-modern units out there, the better my civ-life will get.

The levels of talent I witness on these boards never ceases to amaze me. Awesome!

I now have plans to create a slightly more modern version without the sword and dressed in a uniform similar to the Rifleman which this unit could upgrade to.

:goodjob: Finally! My early partisan!

If you don't like the Swashbuckler name than suggest something more appropriate... I didn't design him to look like one of the three musketeers.
Thanks everyone... I have at least one more Japanese unit on the way and then I have the models made up for about 7 Native American units, but I don't know when I'll animate them.

ive said it once and ill say it again

CFC NEEDS A DROOL EMOTICON

good job, your my idol:worship:

Thank you Kinobat! They're great.

I'm using them in my HPM as flavor units, as follows:

Ashigaru - Pikeman
Bushi - Swordsman
Kensai - Medieval Infantry
Samurai Archer - Archer
Samurai Spearman - Spearman

I have civilopedia entries for most of them, if anybody's interested. They might not be 100% accurate, but we're talking about an Atari game after all.

I know that you've just done the Samurai Archer, but could you please make a slightly more advanced unit, like one with a crossbow or something. I'm sure some existed. The Chinese had crossbows as well as the Europeans. Then we would have the Japanese Worker, Settler, Spearman, Archer, Swordsman, Longbowman, Pikeman, AND Medieval infantry all done!!

single-smiley posts are frowned upon, but these are so good they leave me speechless!

Yeah great units again. Not that we expected something else....;)

My favourite is the swashbuckler guy too. :)

I was going to give you 10/10, but then I saw the Samurai Archer's Unit_32 pcx...

9.8/10

Kinboat, what program did you use to do this? The characters don't seem to have any detail in the face (which is in keeping with the Firaxis units), so it looks to me like its not Poser... or do you just have a particular model you use for Civ3 units?

Btw, REALLY looking forward to those Native American units! Sorely needed! :)

I made the models myself in 3DSMax and then imported them into Poser for the bone structure and animation... I did this mostly to get the right proportions, also to avoid copyright issues... Plus the models are much lower polygon count and saves me a lot of time rendering (all those fancy polygons aren't needed at this scale). A drawback is that I need to create all my own clothes etc as nothing else will work.

A side note (sort of), a preview of the Otomo Swordsman:

And an updated Samurai Archer Units_32 file... The other one was small because of the pose I used for it. This one should look better.

That Otomo Swordsman looks mighty fine :goodjob:

Maybe you could put some blood on his sword for attackB and have him wipe it off in the victory

Hey, seeing as you seem to be in the mood to do flavour sets (looking forward to the Native Americans  ), any chance you could think about an Egyptian Pack in the future? :egypt:

ps. I think Balou would be jealous now!

He looks very nice! I have a little avi flic showing some japanese swordfighting, if you are interestet?

How big is the file? I'd be interested in seeing it if it's not too large.
There maybe some Egyptian units but it's not a priority at the moment.
I may consider that victory idea :) sounds good.
