New Version - August 2nd (8/2)

Hi, just wanted to give feedback on the AI expansion. I know it's just one game, but it's turn 100 in my new game and none of the 4 known AIs (Monty, Attila, Casimir and Nebby) has more than 3 cities, though there is lots of free space left. It's really different from the previous versions. It gives me the feeling that the game is easier now.

Yeah, go and overexpand yourself. You'll have time to regret.

yeah, ai doesn't overexpand anymore but sweet holy earthmother their cities get ridiculously strong. if anything, difficulty level is way higher than it was in mid game (no more mowing through paper cities).

Feedback on the AI expansion rate. Playing on epic game speed, immortal difficulty, turn 100. I have put down 4 cities and all the AIs met, China, Siam, Denmark, Assyria have only put down 1 city. It seems like there is plenty of free space available to them. I will try another game and see if I see something similar, but it feels like they are expanding too slow.

Second game is a bit better. I am seeing a couple civs with 2 and 3 cities at the 100 turn point. Will try a couple more runs.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but oh well.

I've noticed on the tech tree that a whole bunch of techs have 5 unlocks/effects listed, which is the max allowed by the UI.

Do any of those techs have a 6th one that's not showing? A few times I've come across an effect or a building that I don't remember unlocking, but I'm not sure whether that's cause it's not shown on the tech or if I'm just an idiot, haha.
+yields for building and other "not that important" bonus may be hidden. Check your buildings tooltip to see.

So far the only issue I have encountered is no trading posts.
It has been renamed village.

It's not only about allowing massive expansion for the human player, but it also means that good settling spots are available longer, so it's easier to get good settling spots, which is good for any kind of strategy.

I feel the AI is closer to pre-27th rate than the 27th, but I do agree that they should probably expand a tiny bit faster to be just like pre-27th, but your experience is different compared to mine so far. By turn 100-150 on Emperor most AIs have 3-4 cities (some 5 or more), only Bismarck so far decided to go OCC (he went Tradition, but got 4 new cities soon after)

By turn 200 some have 11, some more, some less

Too bad I can't finish my 2nd August game because Windows 10's update broke civ, what a shame. I hope Firaxis will fix it.

Gazebo, have you guys thought about upgrading Hand-Axe to a Skirmisher instead of a Pikeman? One reason being they would keep their ranged promotions. Or maybe that is the just the upgrade tip.

Anybody else can't build Inquisitors? I am playing the Huns right now.

Have you enhanced your religion? If not, then I think you cannot build them.

Yes your are right, for some reason I reformed it with St. Basil, even finished the Piety tree, could build an Inquisitor, but in a captured city (with a different religion) but forgot to enhance for some reason, too caught up! :)

I don't know if I just haven't experimented enough or what, but I can't seem to acquire vassals anymore at any point in the game. What I mean is, that no matter how powerful I am, no matter my score or any other factor will let the AI become my vassal. Every value is consistently "impossible".

I haven't been able to get anyone to capitulate through war in the past few versions either. In my current game in the last build, I have been at war with Mongolia for a few hundred years in industrial era and conquered 3 cities, including their capital and many units without losing a single unit myself. My war score is only 27. At the rate at which my war score increases (only 12 from conquering their capital...), I would have to conquer 75% of their entire nation to get them to capitulate.

At that point it's not even worth it. They would be entirely worthless and a drag as a vassal. It seems like the really cool vassal states feature is just being devalued in that you have to completely decimate all of a country's potential to ever take it as a vassal, at which point it moves from a fun, interesting feature to a useless burden.

That is funny since a couple days ago I built trading posts.

Then you were likely not playing with Vox Populi, because that changed a long time ago.

As far as AI expansion goes, on the one emperor game I started the 3 AIs on my continent (Russia, Germany, Zulu) all expanded to at least 5 cities by medieval.
