Like you said, not in wartime. You can sell your own harbors to cut them off.

Blimey, that's a bit extreme! You really are hardcore aren't you! Do you ever burn down your own city and murder the inhabitants just to REALLY annoy your enemies?

How to create a fine map?
When I try to create a map in an editor, it always places luxuries in cluster - say, one nation gets 15 ivory, other 12 gems, etc. Why? Also, help index does not really explain, what is "preserve world seed" function is? And what is the value of "world seed" meaning in map editor? It could be 0, 20K, 30K - but map looks alike!
Thank you.

Is there a way to keep an automated worker out of somebody elses territory? I planted a few cities on a different part of this land mass (because I found iron up there) and there is a few civs in between my "main" section of land and that little area I settled. The automated workers seem to think they can just go through the territory of others to get to my small area I settled. Kind of annoying, I can't have automated workers now (I like automated workers later in the game).

That's what I been doing, the shift a. Not anymore. They are stoopid.

I'll just control them myself. Takes a whole what.. few extra minutes per turn. Big deal. :)

Installed ptw. I stepped on a goody hut, and a city was established. Use to be, I get a settler. I didn't want the base there, 10,000 miles away from my capital.

A setting somewhere so this don't happen? I read the manual, think I missed this somewhere.

Sorry if question has been asked. Didn't really want to read 10 pages of post.

Sorry, I haven't read through the 1,224,585,017 posts prior to this to hunt for my questions, but...

I couldn't find documentation in the manual for these, but these changes from Civ II seem to be made:

1. No more hurry. Your warrior can move two road spaces and attack without a penalty. Can someone confirm this?

2. Does Elite/Veteran give any bonuses besides the hitpoints (i.e. to attack/defense)?

3. What does the "perferred government/shunned government" in the tribe descriptions mean? Does it only apply to the AI's attitude toward you (Abe likes you better if you're a democracy), or does it affect the AI's decision on government? As far as I can see, it has no bearing on your own civilization (You can have a Russian Democracy function just fine).

Thanks in advance,

1. Yes you can attack on any part of your turn and recive no penalty.

2.Nope just hitpoints. And elite can possibly generate a leader.

3.They will be nicer to you if you are in their preferred government. I see no indication about them choosing it though.

2. IIRC more the more elite the unit the greater the chance they will be able to retreat before dieing. This of course assumes they are a unit that can retreat of course.

I've never heard of this before, and I doubt it's true. Can anyone confirm this?

Depends on which version you downloaded. IIRC there is a zip file and just a sav. file. If you downloaded the zip, you open it and unzip. At the screen before the unzipping process, which asks you which folder to unzip to, tell it to go to the saves folder in your Civ 3 folder. Then open Civ3 and load game and find the game somewhere on the list.

If you downloaded the sav. format or unzipped it somewhere, find it where you saved it too. Somewhere on your hard drive. Then drag it into the Civ 3 saves folder. You'll have to open Windows Explorer to do that.

Woah, didn't know that! I feel so stupid... Anyway, then shouldn't your answer to this question:

be yes, not no? :)

Maybe I'm just blind here, but how in the world do you change the name of your own leader. A lot of screens I've seen on diplomacy screen, instead of the default Xerxes or Caesar for your own civ, the leader name is replaced by some custom name.

When you can select your civilization, the leader appears in the upper center of the screen. Double click on his name/description IIRC.

To sum it up, just double click the guy (or girl).
