Newbies' Shed

Is there any information on the game (generalized info, not details) that isn't in the forum format. Like provinces, etc. I'm a Philadelphian, so I'm guessing that I'm in the Ameri province, but I'm not sure of the fact.

You are correct. Philadelphia is in Ameri province. Welcome to the game.

Sure. The chat turn is held on IRC, host is irc.webmaster.com and the room is #demogame. In the chat there is a designated player (DP). This is normally the President - if the Pres isn't there then the highest ranking official is the DP. Turn 0 is where the DP goes through all of the instructions that the various department leaders have made and does them in the game (trade deals, city build queues, etc). The DP then progresses through 10 turns following the instructions set by the leaders, plans approved on the Forum and guided by our game objectives. All through this, the DP posts to the chat room with updates of what is happening. When something comes up in the game that was not planned for the DP will get feedback from the chat room participants. Often there will be different options and opinions on what should be done and a vote will be taken to decide what the game action should be.

Some of the intricacies:

Each department is represented by a spokesman. This can be the department leader, the department deputy or a designated chat representative. The department representative can make decisions for their department and vote in Spot Council Votes. A Council Vote is a powerful little thing that can even overturn a leader's specified instructions.

All citizens in the chat room can vote in Citizen Polls. This is generally what is used as the DP wants the broadest possible feedback and support.

There is also a fair amount of good humor and shenanigans such as the smacking about of various citizens with large virtual books.

Come and live in Glorious Asphinxia Province, where the culture is hot and the standing military is large and protective looking. Ample parking available. Noobs especially welcome, hey, I'm a noob too!!!!

You can change it once you have made 10 or more posts. You do so by going to your "User CP" (one of the 5 red buttons at the top of every page), and editing the "Custom user text" field in in your profile.

Sweeeeeeeeeet
Now I have some very embarassing questions.
First, what is a mayor?? Cant find them in the constitution. Is the Govenor of a province the mayor of the capital? Do ALL cities have mayors?? Who appoints them?? argh.

Now, the most embarassing question of all, what's the capital of Asphinxia (of which I am the current govenor)
:king:
Really should know that huh!

Mayors basically just post information about their city and lobby on its behalf. Very few of our cities actually have them, but yes the governor of a province can be the mayor of the capital city if he or she wants. There's no appointment procedure, you just find a mayorless city and off you go :)

Oh, and the capital of Asphinxia is Thebes, site of the forbidden palace :egypt:

Just so you know, Almightyjosh, Fox Nest (the capital of Phoenatica) has had one Mayor (Donsig), But the Capital Province of Istar is now on its second Governor.

There are elections for all public offices at the end of each calendar month (nominations begin on the 24th, terms start on the 1st). There are currently three vacant offices that need to be filled but I see you found that thread already ;) .

Almightyjosh: "protective looking"

rg3333:

The trade deputy position may also be vacant after fephisto resigns.

New appointments are vetted by cabinet vote.

Yes, if fephisto resigns, when he shouldn't I will become Trade Leader, so yes if he does resign I will have to appoint a new Trade Deputy.

Well, my term actually started on the 3rd for New Cormyr Govenor and the 4th for Trade Dep.

True, there are some exceptions on what date a leader takes office. Late elections and promotions are the two that you've encountered. All terms do expire at the end of the calendar month though, regardless of when the leader took office.
