GOTM-09: Saves available!

This game MUST be played in patch version 1.61. We will NOT accept any games played under any other patch versions.

Game settings:
Civilization: Incans (Leader: Huayna Capac; Traits: Aggressive & Financial)
Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Emperor
Map: Continents
Mapsize: Standard
Climate: Tropical
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: EPIC
Victory Conditions: all enabled

Huayna Capac:
Huayna Capacis Financial and Aggressive; starting with agriculture and mysticism. Aggressive allows double production speed of barrakcs and drydocks, as well as free combat 1 promotion on melee & gunpowder units. Financial allows +1 commerce on any tile producing 2 or more, as well as double production speed banks.

Unique unit: Quechua:
The Quechua replaces the warrior. It has strength of 2 and costs 15 hammers. Like the warrior, it gets +25% city defence, but it also gets +100% vs archery units - quite a useful city defender against early (non-axeman!) barbarians.

The starting screenshot is here:

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Start with a worker, an extra settler and two archers.
 2. Start with additional knowledge of hunting and mining.

Challenger Class Equalisers:
 1. All other civs start with an extra (random) first-level tech.

Spoiler 1
 1. Opens on August 7th.
 2. Requires full view of the starting continent (know cultural boundaries of all other civs).
 3. Requires that you have reached (at least) 0 AD.
 4. No discussion of events post 500 AD.

Spoiler 2
 1. Opens on August 10th.
 2. Requires full world map (met all civilizations, know location of all capitals).
 3. Requires that you have reached (at least) 1500 AD (or completed the game).
 4. No discussion of events post 1800 AD.

Spoiler 3
 1. Also opens on August 10th.
 2. Requires that you have finished and submitted the game. Discussions are open to any aspect of the game.

>>Get the starting saves from the download page.

Hmm, I have never played Emperor before (infact the last GOTM was my first Monarch game), so I was going to play the adventurer class, but the bonuses seem a bit on the generous side :D

I like the statement 'Your unique unit should be especially helpful in defending in the early game against barbarian archers. Good luck!' on the download page. Says it all. This one is going to be an interesting 'challenge'

btw the downloads page doesn't display correctly in IE6 - the screenshot of the start location smothers the 'Scope of the game' list instead of floating next to it. Displays OK in Firefox though.

Hi, my first post on forum.

What means that spoiler thing? "Opens on August 10th." and so on?.
Can i start playing on the save now to compete?.

Hi Pela - and welcome!!

Yes, you can start playing the saves now. There will be 3 'spoiler' threads in the CFC forum which open on August 7 and 10. Here you can post details of how your game is going and read how others are progressing - but you need to be aware of (and meet!) the spoiler conditions before reading or posting to them.

Good luck!

You can start playing right away.

However - you must not talk about the game in any way, except in the spoiler threads, and even there you must pay attention to the requirements for the different threads (listed above). Those threads start on the given dates, so before then there's no talking about the GOTM after you've begun playing.

just a silly question about Challenger Class (silly because i won't play it):
All other civs start with an extra (random) first-level tech.
i assume the randomness has already worked before the save and every challenger will face the same opponents?

Just a silly question as i already said, but this strikes me.
I wouldn't want to face an AI knowing BW right from the start

emperor..., this is going to be hard,
I found myself already so super after a victory on monarch:)

Emperor is doable so long as you have good leader traits and enough gold/health and happiness resources in your starting area. This gotm's start looks doable but I haven't opened the the save yet to see anything else.

Of course! You all start with the same save file.

I'm glad you also have access to a compliant browser :mischief:

I'll have a look at it.

Hmmmm. I think on balance IE did better, or at least, less badly. (Firefox very considerately downloaded the game without asking me which folder I wanted to put it in and then didn't bother to tell me where it had actually put it . No doubt I could have found out with some investigating, but it was quicker to just download it again using IE!)

In Fireforx you should change settings in Tools/Options/Downloads/Download Folder to Ask me where to save every file.

... or note-or-change the default download folder.

Hi Civ-Folks :-)

My 2nd post, my first GOTM.
Emperor looks quite difficult, so far I have mastered only 1 victory on Monarch (cultural on a large fractal map, 5 rounds before Mansa finished his last space ship part). :-) Normally I feel comfortable on Prince.

However I will play contender class, else I don't know where I am really. And I expect to loose gloriously miserable. ;-)

Many thanks to the people making the GOTM possible!

Yes - all players will face the same start. I used worldbuilder to manually allocate an extra tech to each civ - the "random" part is just that I chose a tech at random for each civ - rather than trying to give them a very specific tech (say, fit their starting location & resources).

Question to the Admins:

Isit allowed to change names - of the nation, leader, cities? Or does that make the task for the submission-reviewers too hard?
