Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it the fact that it was the morning after a Christmas Eve feast, and not a snowstorm, that helped Washington surprise the Hessians? The Great Historian - 0; The Random Internet Guy - 1

But really, isn't he a 100%, 33 times distilled windbag? Did anybody know that we could power 86% of our country by simply attaching wind turbines in front of his mouth?

And finally, I think we can safely say this add is a dud. But, considering that Virginia was his Pearl Harbor, do you think this was his feeble attempt at Midway?

Yuck . I was really getting into that initially " Stick it to em George , damn Brits I know how you Yanks feel " .......then that stupid face appears trying to hijack this Washington guy's legacy .

Did he really slip a USA #1 into a campaign ad?

It's just the standard LET'S TALK ABOUT AMERICA'S FRICKIN AMAZING HISTORY crappy politicians alway used to rile up dumbasses. It's garbage, he's an idiot, stop listening to him.

More intellectual than a Cain tv ad, but really nothing more than a "Yes we can" ad. So pretty much as effective as a Cain tv ad /9 second delayed smile.

If all I knew of Herman Cain was his ads, I would have voted for him.

Gawd, this has got to be the lulziest election year I've ever seen. Are the Repubs basically trying to get elected on their entertainment value, or what? Last guy who really tried that was Ross Perot, and look how that turned out.

You wouldn't have voted for if he had simply uttered the phrase "9-9-9"? Herman Cain was the Nathan Hale of Gingrich's revolution! Yet you still couldn't muster the will to vote for him without ads? YOU BRITISH ROMNEY LOYALIST!!!!!

That stunt by Washington was almost as tough as making it onto the Virginia primary ballot.
Perhaps Romney represents the British and Ron Paul, the Hessians? With this in mind, Newt needs a "terrible snowstorm" to make their supporters stay inside, and then Newt can clear paths for his supporters get to the election facilities by simply talking to the snow, thereby melting it. His air is hot enough to do it. Then, to show his disapproval of being Pearl Harbored, he can take the ballot officers prisoner and run for across rivers and take his prisoners with him.

It's not all of them. Just the fanatical anti-Romney fringe freedom loving patriots who are trying to bring attention to their cause.

I think it was pretty unfair for Romney to compare Newt not getting on the Virginia ballot to Lucy working at the chocolate factory. Like Newt has ever put in a day of real work.

What? You don't think being paid $1.6 million to be a historian is real work? What about shutting down the government because of Air Force One seating? Surely you don't think that's a piece of cake too?

His 2004 ads?

We definitely need to amend the Constitution to keep the Pledge of Allegiance full of God. So vote for Herman Cain.

Liberals are mad about Iraq because we didn't ask for France's permission. Oh and liberals are pissed about Saddam Hussein being captured. So vote for Herman Cain.

I will bet you $10,000 that contre does not support Romney.

Naw, the Christmas Eve blast is what you teach you at school. But it isn't what happened. Newt's version is a little closer to the truth. Newt is wrong when he claims that Washington planned to attack during a snowstorm. Rather, as Newt later says, divine providence delivered the storm.

The Hessians knew an attack was coming. They'd been on full alert for a week, sleeping in their uniforms and packs. Indeed, last minute intelligence pinpointed the time as Christmas morning. But some of Washington's men jumped the gun and attacked early. The Hessians were waiting for them and easily drove them off. Then, thinking they had won the battle, they fell into bed.

Washington's men did appear, as if out of nowhere, behind a shield of swirling snow.

BTW: Even tho the Hessians had robbed, raped and murdered their way across New Jersey, Washington gave orders that they were not to be mistreated. This was an innovation in warfare, at a time when mistreatment of prisoners was standard. (More Americans died in British prison ships than on all of the Revolutionary battlefields combined.) Think of that the next time Newt advocates waterboarding prisoners.

So you don't want to bet? :(
"I'm not in the betting business," replied Lt. Col. Rick Perry as he and his men, under the command of General Newt Gingrich, prepared to cross the Potomac River to make a daring raid on the Virginia election facilities.

Looks like we have moved to the McCarthy Era in Virginia:

Voters who want to take part in the Commonwealth's March 6 Republican primary will be asked for a November commitment.

Virginia Republicans requested the Va. State Board of Elections to allow it to ask primary voters for a loyalty oath, promising to support the Republican party's nominee for president in the general election.

According to the Times-Dispatch: "The pledge will require the voter to sign and to print his name beneath a line that says: 'I, the undersigned, pledge that I intend to support the nominee of the Republican Party for president.'"

The Va. State Board of Elections on Wednesday approved a request to post bulletins at polling places, to send out notifications to absentee voters, and for the party to present the pledge itself.
