Next Turn - 50bc

Queen Jayne,
How many settlers do you think we have to destinate ?
I think two (or three) could go to the SE land, and one (or two ?) to the W indian land, as a first offensive city
(both exploration corps addeed by archers...)

Random replies:

1) After Construction (in progress), the tech path is Mathematics and Astronomy. If each tech is offered promptly, it looks to be 14 turns away. Add 6 turns each time one of them isn't offered.

2) To prevent Roskilde from growing, we need to IPRB $8 three times to get a settler in 8 turns. If we IPRB $8 three more times, the disbanding is another 10 turns instead of 14. The first settler must found a city (Fruit City is the closest place to build) and all units must be rehomed before disbanding. Also: why would we want to keep the name Roskilde?

3) If the first Roskilde settler builds Fruit City, the Dellham settler should head straight NE to build on the GLS. Not sure if the city build plans are settled.

4) Civvium seems a logical place to build a trireme. There are settlers available nearby. Since the trireme can hold only 2 units, I suggest taking a risk and loading 2 settlers to found cities more quickly. Go back and ferry other units later if needed. The Southeast islands look like the logical place to found cities now.

5) Generally, I agree with the points made by Funxus, Rout, and DoM.

I will post a poll.

Settlers:

LN sett SW of BL - Roading to Civvium
LN sett SW of RC - no task
TF sett NW of GG - no task
Ren sett N of Ren - heading to road oasis
Dell sett NW of Dell - heading N. Where to settle?
MD sett SW of OP - building road, but then where?

Sett ready in OP in 3. Then where?

(Roskilde and LN also building settlers)

In this case, where we are "resettling" the inhabitants of the conquered settlement, it is very sound to think of a new name for the new town. If I understand Dell correctly, he is referring to conquered cities we keep (I hope there will be many of those in the future...). I also think we shouldn't rename those because that would make us forget their history and the struggle we went through in order to get them!

** Miscellaneous Chryshe recommendations for 50 BC move **

If LC switches production to a caravan, move the unit out of the city so Elvis can be fired.

Reneaux: Place workers on River-Shield and Oasis for 2 turns (to grow faster :) ), then after growth new worker goes on Wine.

Reneaux: Settler should road the Oasis and the Wine.

MonkE, looking at your two posts above, that all looks good.

I went to the Department of Maps Department, and believe I have pinpointed Fruit City. It's Forest, N NE of the Fruit (Banana), on NUF's North Coast. The Fruit is 4 Food, 1 shield, so I guess we're planning to found on the Forest, and irrigate later?

The CJ archer is with the Dellham Settlers. I hope that Archer heads south to board our Trireme, and a Roskilde Archer (or Ros Phx) meets Settlers at the founding of Fruit City. On the other hand, you may need that Archer to guard a new city, and perhaps just the LC Diplomat (and GG Warrior) is all our Trireme needs at first.

Oh, you were going to found a City somewhere else with the Dellham Settler? The Reneaux Settler is wandering back and Forth. Perhaps the two of them could team up to build Coal Mine City? Sorry, everything is up in the air, and I must logoff.

Perhaps the Dellham settler could found the NE city and a settler from there can help start Coal City. There are plenty of chores that can occupy the Reneaux settler in the meantime ...

Hi guys

Sorry I've been absent for such a long time. I went to a meeting which was supposed to last from friday to sunday afternoon. Unfortunately the big storm that hit the western part of Europe this weekend interfered and I was only able to return monday evening...

Anyway, I was going to decline any positions anyway due to lack of time but I will try to post a poll on exploration within a day or so... (my last duty as foreign advisor)

Regarding settling of the south-east isles, are they islands or continents

I suggest that we make sure that we guard any units that we send that-aways. I would also like to propose that we send a diplomat as an advance scout to explore the continent. Two movement points is handy, and the AI is likely to expel or ignore rather than attack up-front. :)

MonkE, I am not sure that NUF Exploration needs the CJ Archer, but it seems likely. Here is a potential effective plan for this turn.

Reneaux Settler Road the Oasis, and maybe irrigate it.

Dellham Settler build Roads from is present location, perhaps due North, or NE, or both. That way it is performing useful work while we arrange for a plan with guards. The alternatives seem unsafe to me.

The forums were down last night. I will be unable to participate for the next 5-6 hours.

I petition the Queen to delay one day, since I feel we have many crucial decisions remaining: Trireme goes which way while awaiting Crew? What Crew? Diplomats? Dellham Settler? CJ Archer? Builds in Boreum? LN Settlers? To name a few.

Quite a bit to discuss, really.

I must agree with Ainwood regarding sending a diplo scout with the trireme to explore the SE lands. Diplos make great scouts for all thereasons he's listed, plus if we find somebody there is always the option of establishing an embassy or buying a city if we want. Next question is what to send with the dip, a warrior/Archer, or an unprotected settler? Now that we have Map Making, I'd really like to see at least a second Trireme soon.

Tried to post yesteday afternoon, but the forum was down
(growl, snarl)...

Anyway, since the Queen hasn't posted a new turn thread,
I'm assuming this is in time...

For new construction, the people recommend:

Mordheim build Temple (Overwhelmingly)
Marl Downs build Trireme (Majority)
Octavia's Pt. builds Archer (Plurality)

The people (except Rout) seem completely indifferent as to how
Mordheim's Archer and Octavia's Pt Settler are used.

For the settler I'm sticking to my recommendation to using the
Settler to work improvements in Boreum until Marl Downs builds
the trireme, at which time it and the Archer would set sail for
parts unknown. But I would also say there is a lot of room for
the Queen to use her own judgment in this matter...

Roskilde should IPRB 6 times ($48).

Roskilde first settler should found Fruit City.

Dellham settler should move NE to found on grassland shield.

LC should switch build to a caravan.

Reneaux should build a caravan next.

River Bridge continue building archers.

Governors, thank you. Those will prove to be fine decisions. It's just hard on me that the people want an Archer in River Bridge rather than a Settler, but perhaps we can revisit that.

I posted the Aonia Poll results in that thread, GG Caravan etc. However, Our Queen has granted us an extra day (In Name River Bridge), due to the elections and that the forums were down last night. I have posted a new Trireme poll, since Civ1's Exploration Poll seemed to be running for Peaceful, SE Trireme.

If you get a chance to check status again, feel free to integrate your decisions with the results of the new Exploration Poll and the Civvium Trireme Poll. For example, since LC has already switched to a Caravan, what if the new poll comes up Diplomat?

My Queen, there are also 'default' micromanagement suggestions at the beginning of this Turn Thread, and the Civil Disorder Thread. Plenty of ambiguity and need for Royal Prerogative.

River Bridge Name is currently Monks Towne (unless MonkE himself would want to go with Fort Anarchy).

The people voted for exploration according to:
Option C:
Maybe we just want to expand peacefully for the time and locate landmasses not taken by other civs yet. The land we can see SW of Elysium, E of Civvium and NE of Marl Downs could be nice candidates for this.

This means put a warrior (Gabba Gabba warrior?) on the trireme built in Civvium and sail the land masses we expect not to find Indians and Vikings.

There were also some ideas to build a second trireme, put a diplomat on it and sail towards Vikings and Indians. Let's build a trireme up north (Marl Downs?), supply it with a diplo and go find those backward nations! :D

I have taken the liberty to summarize the results of the Plan Civvium Trireme Poll -- please see that thread.

Looking all around, The few crucial or controversial decisions seem to be made:

Civvium Trireme, IPRB=30 $11 in 2 turns.
Gabba Gabba, switch to build Caravan instead of Archers.
Dellham Settler with CJ Archer head North and found a city.

I again recommend LN Settler, Road Plains N of Little Nemo,
and that we focus on Caravans to build Cop's in Elysium.
