NHL 2011-2012 season thread

I've read that the NHL might look at moving Columbus East as well, in order to keep the team afloat. Cbus is is in the eastern time zone, and all thos road games in PST and MST are killing ratings? Fan support for the BJs is almost nothing...and you really can't blame 'em.

Personally I'm in favour of moving either Nashville or Columbus. But specifically Columbus, since they need all the help they can get.

it makes sense geographically. what is it? one team is moving to the east while the jets go back to the west? i would much rather see the jackets or preds a few times a year instead of the wings (one team i heard was possibly moving to the east).

Keep Scum in the west since we want to beat on them for years to come, Nashville is a real team and for those in the east just hope Columbus moves east. This team is, as a Browns fan said, "a factory of sadness"...

btw you have to watch the "a factory of sadness" guy..

Link to video.

Funny video, thanks for sharing. It had me laughing.

I have to agree with keeping Columbus west for selfish reasons as well. Switching Winnipeg and Columbus seems to not balance the quality of the conferences as would moving Nashville/Detroit east. If the wheels did not come off of Columbus, it makes me wonder if the West would have an "easy" team with the Oilers rebuild gaining traction and Colorado being decent when healthy. The whole deal with Columbus right now makes me wonder how much longer before we label the Jackets a basketcase team; I hope the manage to turn it around for their fans, but my guess is it is not likely unless the teams upper management takes a hard look at themselves.

I think the team is already cap restrained. That doesn't help them much.

Ouch. CapGeek has the Blue Jackets with $806,817 in cap space, and in 8th for spending. Vancouver, Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Toronto, and Montreal are the teams above them in that order. Sadly for Columbus, it is only going to get worse since Umberger and Tyutin are receiving substantial raises next season (especially Tyutin); the Mike Commodore buyout also does not help them, granted, the real elephant in the room is Rick Nash's contract. Seeing the numbers on CapGeek really shows that the Blue Jacket's leadership has dug that team a deep hole.

Carter has been injured, hasn't he?

I think we expected Mason to suck a lot less as well. There are a lot of hockey fans in Columbus, but there isn't really a reason to tune in to the Jackets right now...not only do they suck (when we thought they could compete for a playoff spot), but now it appears they might suck for an extended period of time. If we trade Nash though, NOBODY is going to show up. Ever.

Also, I CAN NOT STOP laughing at that video. Whomp just described Ohio professional sports to a T.

he just came back from yet another broken foot. dude breaks one every year.

perhaps some of the canucks fans here or british columbia residents may recognize someone here ?

Vancouver Wants You To Rat on Your Rioters

I just saw that post for the first time earlier today in UBC's Student Union Building. Unfortunately, I recognize no one.

The Wild have the best record in the NHL right now. I am completely shocked and know it wont last so I had to mention it while I could.

Crosby comes back tomorrow. That will be all any talking head talks about. yay. :suicide:

It sure beats having to here about the weekly Crosby update and the constant speculation about when he will return. All we can hope is that Crosbywatch stops after the his return game.

Considering that he's opening with two points in his first twenty minutes back on ice. (1g 1a)...probably not.

He was previously pretty much the closest thing to a second coming of Gretzky the league has (yes, ahead of the others big first draft picks). He will be hyped.

Interesting he came back against the Islanders :mischief: ... only team in the East with a d worse than the 'Canes. :scan:

Is there such a thing as a Islanders fan? I mean, with the Rangers being so close... They had their couple of glory days but...

Mike Milbury traded all the Islanders fans to the Rangers for a 7th round draft pick (which he used to redraft Alexei Yashin) and a bag of pucks
