No AI siege weapons

Os79

- I told you so

;)

I believed you in the first place :D.

Though, I suspect it has to do with catapults being low-end. I dread what will happen when I enter Artillery Age . Still in 1500's.

The AI just declared war on me and started the attack by bombarding me with 13 catapults in a row.

Oh, thats a decent AI you've got there :-)

I play romans, marathon, the level below deity.
I have also wondered why the AI didnt do much more with their siege weapons when attacking me. It's always around 3 or 4 catapults (and they never upgrade them either!!). Thats far to much to take a cities with 7-12 units fortified.

I always bring 10-15 siege units, catapults, canon etc, depending on which era i'm in, to soften up the enemy cities before attacking with 10-20 "attack" units. I prefer playing the romans, so Praetorian are a must. In my present game, I have an army of 18 riflemen and 12 cannons... :-) They can destroy any city in their era...

Question to you guys: Another thing besides poor siege weapon strategy, could anything be done to make the AI use only the strongest attacking units??

I'm always disappointed when the AI brings a strange mix of arrows, horses, pikemen, spearmen, swordsmen, wardogs, etc.
- according to my own strategy, AI should only use the stronger swordsmen and get rid of the other lousy units. Preferably bringing at least 10-15 swordsmen besides catapults... Why on earth would someone attack a city with a bowman strengh 3?! Or a wardog facing a heavily defended strength 8 bowman??

But, you know, the world is not only black and white :) To make long story short - various units have special abilities. Some of them are stronger against certain units - horses, melee or archery. Swordsman are good in attacking a city, but then, you need to defend it. Other thing is, that having a mixed stack prevents it from attacking during the march, don't you think? Your bunch of swordsman could be easily blown by enemy horse units, if you don't protect them with pikes, just for example.

You are right, when it comes to moving from your land towards the enemy city, inside their land:

In my current game, the netherlands started using airships at my stack of riflemen/cannons. For the next rush at them I brought some machineguns (with anti-air) to counter (ok, airships arent a big deal, but for the example)...

I guess there's several issues here:
- a problem is the point in my game where i'm at I've built up a large domination, leading with 3000 points to 1800 (the netherlands)... so its not much competition you get
- I think in the earlier stages of the game, units are much more diverse - you will actually need - as you point out - different units to address different enemies you encounter. I think it will get more diverse again in the final stages of the game, where there will be airunits, rockets, tracked-, robots etc.
- also I think the notion of Stack o' doom is not fully applied by the AI - It should attack with 30 units instead of 7 -then I would be seriously in trouble hehe :-)

been playing a game on noble and not seen the AI use a single seige engine, wars are to easy because of this, its making me not wanna play this mod anymore which is a shame as their are some brilliant new features in it!

So?

That would be TMI (Too Much Information) as far as we readers and modder Zappara are concerned.

If you have a concrete criticisms to make, please write them out. However, when you proclaim to the whole world that you refuse to play a game, you are effectively proclaiming an insult to Zappara. IMO.

hey i was just stating my feeling on the seige engines, its a great mod and before i noticed the seige engine thing i was thinking this is like a whole new better game of civ, not trying to insult anyone this guy has made an amazing expansion to the game. but when you see the AI not using what must be an intergral part of warfare then it loses its realism and depth...

Much better :).

do i just need to increase my difficulty level or have people found the same on prince?

I would open up the BuildingInfos and add an AIwieght of 20 or so on Siege Workshops and Foundries. It should be save compatible, and the AI might start making more siege units.

HI guys,

beautiful mod, honestly... but I have to say I witnessed the lack of siege weapons myself... I had a great EMPEROR level game going on, struggling to keep alive, but suddenly I noticed that the wars I was fighting were too easy... so I decided to enter Worldbuilder to see what was going on in the Ai's cities, and alas, I counted less than 10 siege weapons in the whole world!!! (apart from mine)... the other 23 civs, only 10 siege...! (Huge world)

Something is really wrong with that core part of warfare in Civ 4... as it is now, it's a cheat in favour of the human, and I don't like that...

If I knew what to do, I would, but I guess it's better to report it here so zappara can adjust his gem for everyone...

I consider this a game breaker. I stopped playing.

Please look into this. Thanks,

ive just found the RoM patch and New Dawn expansion which ive installed, will these improve the siege AI? just started a game on prince too...

thanks, does your new dawn expansion already do this?

This does appear to be a legitimate problem. If you turn on cheatcodes and hold control and hover over buildings, it will give you the AI value for them. It appears the Foundries and Siege Workshops are receiving very low values (0-10) compared to other buildings (Healer Hut was 76). I will attempt to correct this in better RoM. It seems to be greatly hindering the AI's ability to wage successful wars.

Some of the changes you slate for Better RoM really should go into RoM itself. This is a good example. You should submit at least some of this stuff to Zappara. Are you coordinating with him?

It would be more correct to say that Zappara read everything in this forum, including its sub-forums. Therefore, Zappara now knows about this problem and will deal or not deal with it in his next update as he decides :).

Let's hope so. There is a lot to keep track of.
