im playing charlamange
starting position

https://gyazo.com/4001f97407a995a1ad1b8bcdaafe7582
Move my scout to the hill, don't see anything special so I settle in starting place
starting worker and agriculture

https://gyazo.com/cf9173251fc6d26894b97f77c5f6f2d8
hut gives me a map

https://gyazo.com/76e4f6527db3ed38f88513ca9e6c787c
nice city location
I was initially thinking I should skip making 2nd city there since I can't make war elephants for a while
but I think i'll settle there anyway. +50% settler production will help me get another settler out fast if
I find a better spot

scouting, nothing too special
researched mining for 1 turn then switched to animal husbandry after deciding to settle by the ivory
also ai super close, not good

https://gyazo.com/c946a4bee0498c3c36fe04b8489cdfa3
met peter
some good resources for some money cities here
worker finished and he's going straight to wheat, starting worker

https://gyazo.com/fdc058e14277098046cf011afd957599
lots of dyes
probably starting bronze working after mining finishes
warrior finishes in 1 turn, will try to steal worker
worker is starting farm on flood plains

1st scout died to 2 bears so Im making another, will make a settler after this scout finishes

https://gyazo.com/764066c6c5ff4cd892424f8f69d8e73d
stole peter's worker

https://gyazo.com/2c301b096c749d5b5af5c9fd21ac19b3
more scouting. capital is making settler

https://gyazo.com/963fb33eb297b4c995a89b531901c781
finished bronze working, rushed settler, starting another settler since I have 2 workers and nothing else I can build
really matters
getting archery because protective archers are insane

https://gyazo.com/491aeffb71e2e54c3df2410f64197f59
prague founded, kinda regretting immediately making another settler, but I didnt want to waste time making warriors
archery finished so capital will be churning out archers for a little bit
starting the wheel
met the ottomans

https://gyazo.com/c61814d835413593488fb51eb0f09d3f
vienna founded. I normally hate having cities share tiles, but if I wanted to settle right below the gold then
i'm getting 2 desert tiles + no food. Here I get all 3 sugars while also getting corn + 3 fresh water tiles

Thats turn 50 so I might as well stop and let people tell me what I'm doing wrong here :^)

It seems you will easily improve your game quite a bit with a few key pointers from the folks here. But in order to make the best use of that, you'd need to play shorter turnsets and ideally lay out your plans before you put them into practice.
For example, before teching Animal Husbandry you could have posted your plan and likely would have gotten the hint that it's just not worth yet with only one pasture ressource while at the same time there is another obvious city site 1N of Corn for which you already have the tech and that can help grow 4 green riverside cottages for the capital.
In a similar way, people would have objected going for Archery and explained how to make do with Warriors instead.
So for you to learn the most from a game like this would require very short turnsets: At least before each tech decision, ideally also before builds, worker actions, etc.

Archery is a mistake.

You seem to shun city overlap, this is wrong.
City overlap is essential and really really good.

Don't lose your initial scout, and don't build more scouts.

Elephant spot doesn't look good for second city, too poor food.
1N of corn looks better, closer to capital and doesn't require AH.

Don't play with huts on in learning games, it adds unnecessery noise.

Also play with events off, and on normal size map so your units don't become obsolete by the time you've finished moving your army to the other side.
