NMTWAV, inherited turn 1505AD
My aim in these turns was to clear up the mess we seem to have gotten into. We're at war with India and Persia, who are our two main rivals, and the last thing we want is to be dogpiled. Our empire is also a bit of a mess, and I intend to sort that out. Anyway, this is a brief rundown:
1) The first thing I did was turn the governor off
I know you're knew to succession games, Elvis, so you may not be aware that you should NEVER EVER turn the governor on in a SG.
2) I want to end the wars with Persia and India, but neither will talk yet. I do not like the offensive we're launching against Persia at all. The force we've sent is completely inadequate and will get cut to pieces. Our transports are covered by a battleship, but with the number of Persian ships in the region, our navy may be sunk in the interturn
3) Major worker shortage! What happened to all the workers on our two islands?! We've got a decent number on our main continent (though I still want more) but not a single worker on the other two islands?! I see we have a number of airfields built, but why do we have airfields built right next to each other?! Is that where all our workers went?
We need many more workers, and we need to keep workers at all times...just because most tiles have been improved does not mean we merge in or consume all our workers. Right now, neither of our uranium sources is hooked, and this is an important task as we will soon be building space parts (and nukes!)
4) I had some headbanging moments at the state of our cities, but I won't dwell on them, except to say that in my last turn I spent a lot of effort getting our core cities maxed out, but now I find that a lot of those tiles have been irrigated over, so consequently we have a number of core cities that each have loads of specialists, when instead these cities could each be making an extra 20 shields every turn! Irrigation is fine for corrupt cities, but keeping production maxed is important for core cities. Also, I changed the specailists to scientists rather than taxmen, and ordered up a bunch of mass transits.
5) Made a couple of deals on the inherited turn: swapped fission for amphibuous war with Spain, and renegotiated the silks deal with Russia. Put science to 100%.
6) Got on with the turns. On the first interturn Persian bombers sunk our ships
I was worried about their ships, but they managed to do the job with bombers alone. Bye bye two armies and myriad other troops...what a waste...
7) Made peace with Persia on turn 1, 1510AD. We gave them computers for it and received 3266g + 398gpt. Then bought ivory from Persia for saltpeter, silks, gems and incense. Began to sort out our units, and had a great time spending 3500g on rushing projects!
8) Trained lots more workers and settlers. In total I think I founded 6 new cities in these turns to plug gaps on our continent. Used the workers to rehook uranium sources and to sort out the food/shields situation in our core cities.
9) Made many trade deals, to try to repatch international relations (didn't help much; although our rep is completely clean everyone is still furious at us!). Most important deals included selling oil to Russia for wines, 159g + 20gpt ( I regretted that slightly a turn later when Russia learned synthetic fibres! But still, Russia is quite weak and at war with Germany, India and Persia, so could use the help). Also, sold Computers to Spain in 1520 for 118g + 188gpt.
10) The Russian city on our continent was razed by the Persians
. The downside is the Persian troops have nowhere else to go and are still sitting there, marvelling at our beautiful empire.
11) Space Flight was researched and Satellites began (at 100%) in 1540AD.
12) Finally made peace with India in 1540. I'm hoping for clean sailing from now until *just before* the launch
13) Most core cities have been maxed again. Military is more or less in one place (armies in Nicaea, ships in Hamburg, I think, bombers in the ex-Arab city nearest the Russians). I kept Elvis' tank regiment around the Russian city (now Persian troops are there) cos I like it! It looks very dandy
. Satellites is due in 4, and then we can begin lots of ICBMs...
As we're going at about 7-8 turns per tech this game may make it back to me or it may not. Anyway, was great fun all the way and good luck to everyone in this last round!
