Normal Civ 5 or Civ 5 Deluxe?

Well, they now have two different games.
One is 10 dollars more than the other.
Im wondering, should I buy the Deluxe version as opposed to the plain normal one?
It says Deluxe has "The game's epic soundtrack" but does that mean Civ 5 normal has no soundtrack at all?
And there is also the Babylonian Civilization in the Deluxe version as well.
Could someone tell me whether the Deluxe version is worth the extra $10?

Nobody can tell you if the extra $10 are worth it for YOU. If you look around the latest threads around here you will see a wide variety of opinions about it. Some think it's a fair deal, other don't really care about the extra civ and will wait for some unofficial mod to add it, others are enraged by the idea to have to pay for extra content and are just against any form of paid DLC thinking that it should be made available to everybody for free.

Personally, I haven't made a decision yet. I will preorder and decide once we get near the release date.

P.S.
The soundtrack thing is probably a bunch of wav or mp3 files you can play and listen to outside the game.

For 10 or 20% of the price (I saw a price at +5 euros but hear it's +10 dollars...), you get + 1/18th of the civs inside the game, a soundtrack, and a map (there's probably a map of Earth in the base game, at the minimum).
I think it's incredibly expensive and not worth more than 1 or 2$ personally.

Personally I don't think having the soundtrack in a separate folder as MP3s and 1 extra civ is worth $10, but that's for you to decide for yourself. I'll be plenty happy with Civ 5 vanilla, and depending on what the expansions turn out to be, I might even pick up some of them.

Ok then....
So the Civ 5 Vanilla will at least still have music?
Well, $10 for a Civ is probably to expensive.
I guess Ill get the plain normal Civ 5 then.
Thanks people for helping me decide. ;)

Buy the normal and wait 2 days for someone to mod the Babylonians into the normal version of Civ. I don't get Firaxis's ploy of paying extra for 1 civ when with the powerful modding tools they promised we'll be able to throw it into our normal version within a day or two.

I guess it speaks to how dumb they think the people that are going to pay for the extra civ up front are; but if they actually do it then how wrong could they have been?

Hmmm....

I tip my hat to thee Firaxis, I think you're on to something.

Civ 5 Vanilla will have the exact same music in-game, it just won't be available as MP3s in a folder that's easily copied to your iPod or whatever.

Oblivion did this. They released modding tools, and sold DLC even though people were making free DLC in the community. It's technically illegal to just copy and paste Babylon into the normal game, and I'd rather the community make a NEW civilization in a mod than just pirate the bonus one in the deluxe edition.

Out of all the milions of copies of previous Civ games sold until now, how many people do you think even know what a mod is, where to look for one and how to install it and use it?

Many here make the assumption that just because the vast majority of people here uses mods, tweak xml files or even create their own mods, the same must be true for all the average joe who just buy Civ games because is Civ.

I will buy the deluxe edition. I want everything and will even buy DLC. Only a couple of new units or buildings will make the game feel fresh again to me.

I still think it is wrong to do so. I have a good job and even if Civ5 was 500 euro I would still buy it, because I will have thousands of hours of fun with it. But for a lot of students the 10 euro difference is a lot and especially too much for one civ. The video you will only watch once and the music files you will hear enough of while playing the game. So in fact the 10 euros is only for one civ and that is a lot of money.

My fiance will buy the game for me. I doubt that she will pay extra just for a benefit that I can barely even see myself. Listening to Civ music outside of civ? Pfff. While I do not doubt for a second that the music will be nice, I do doubt that the random collection of tracks will work outside of civ. Therefore I am fairly sure that listening to any album that I already own will pwn the civ soundtrack.

Also I think the extra civ will barely be worth it. There are 18 civs as it is. Having 18 or 19... who cares? By the time I finished playing as those 18 civs, and when I am done having fun with those, then there will be an expansion. There will be new civs in the expansions anyway, so in the end we will end up with a decent number of civs, and then the game will feel complete and we will not miss the lame babylonians one tiny bit.

Not that this fact is going to stop anyone from nerd raging about the existence of the delux edition.

Release a delux edition with awesome extra features, people complain about being "forced" to pay extra.

Wait, what?

I honestly don't mind paying a bit more to support the developers of Civ.

I have had many hundreds of hours of enjoyment from Civ4 and expansions (and mods). Probably more than from any other game I've ever played. StarCraft and Company of Heroes are the only other games that would even come close timewise.

Civ games are *far* better value for money than any other games out there. Modern shooter games have single player campaigns that last like 6 hours.

I don't really care about the extra content one way or the other.

Absolutely, its no-win.

I think adding a Civ to the pre-order package is a bit cheezy but nothing more.

Despite being in a finance crunch, I would pay an extra $10 to buy the game without Steam.
Because of Steam, it's near certain that I won't be buying Civ5 even if it cost just $10.
