Not-So-Useful units, buildings, GPs and wonders

Well, in my opinion it's a Civic, rather than a religion. Something like:

Juche aka Kimilsungism (Not-So-Useful Civic)

Requires: Communism.
Upkeep: High.
Can sacrifice population to finish production in a city - at double cost of Slavery.
-1 :food: in all cities, 5 % chance each turn of Famine (Not-So-Useful event).
-10% :hammers: in all cities.
+1  per military unit stationed in a city.
-1 :science: per specialist
+50% war weariness
Workers build improvements 50% slower.
-1 foreign Trade Routes.
:) bonus for civilizations without Juche.
Corporations have no effect.
-1 Trade Route per city.

No State Religion, but:

Juche needs Kim-Il-Sung (Not-So-Useful Great Person and Eternal President) to be settled in the capital. It acts like a religion with the Kumsusan Memorial Palace as a Not-So-Useful Shrine. The Not-So-Useful Juche Missionaries always fails in spreading religion outside own borders.

SETI (Not-so-useful Great Wonder.) You build it over a hundred years, at an enormous cost, and then discover that there's no one out there willing to talk to you.

Borgs (Not-so-useful random event.) They hear your transmissions and are willing to talk to you, but the only thing they say is: "You will be assmilated. Resistance is useless." After ten turns, they arrive and assimilate you, ending the game.

Yoda (Not-so-useful Great Person.) Every single person in your empire emigrates because they can't stand the way he talks.

David Icke (Not-so-useful Specialist)
Permanent  in cities with Police State

Angry Video Game Nerd (Not-so-useful Great Artist)
+2:) in all cities if a civilization has completed the internet

George Orwell (Not-so-useful Great Artist)
+10:mad: in cities with Police State

The Angry Video Game Nerd looks very useful to me.

You want extra happiness for enemies of your empire?

Volcano (Not-So-Useful random event)

Cottages, hamlets, villages and towns around the peak are destroyed.

In addition each turn of eruption, in a random area of about the size of Europe:
-10 :gold: and +1  in all cities because of cancelled air travel.
-50 % trade.
Disables all air units (except airships).
+1 :science: in cities with university because volcano experts are interviewed in all kind of media.

Krakatoa (Even-Less-Useful random event)

In a Volcano event: 10 % chance of the peak exploding, resulting in global cooling lasting 2-20 turns.

(Yes, 10 % is to high, but hey, this is Civ. More realistic than the global warming.)

You forgot the lost trade routes.

2001: A Space Odyssey
[Not-so-useful Movie]
Can only be created by Arthur C. Clarke or Stanley Kubrick.

+5:) for each nerd
+10:huh: for everyone else

Hitler's birthday (today!) Not so useful event.

+5  in all cities where Judaism is present for one turn.
+1  in all the allied nations of WWII (England, USA, Russia ect..) for one turn.
+2  in Germany because of the bad reputation it got because of him for one turn.

and while we are talking about volcanos...

Super Volcano Not so useful random event.

1.Country it erupts in is destroyed.
2.Countries nearby may be destroyed depending on proximity and size.
3.Three turns of anarchy in all cities.
4.Terrain within 30 tiles of volcano is turned into volcanic wasteland, all improvements are destroyed, cities suffer +6 :yuck:, units take damage every turn, and all air units are destroyed in this area.
5.Volcanic wasteland cannot be developed in any way for 50 years.
6.Stock market will crash (-90% :gold: in all cities except for those running Mercantalism for 10 turns).
7.Global cooling will occur turning some land to ice and tundra for 25 turns.
8.Farms suffer -25% to -50% yield worldwide for 25 turns.
9.Random mprovements (and forests) are destroyed due to drought and heavy flooding.
10.+50% for 25 turns.
11.Survivors from any destroyed country move to all other countries overpopulating their cities and causing famine.

Asteroid impact (definitely not useful event, especially nasty on an archipelago map)
All coastal cities world-wide are destroyed by tsunamis.
From 30% to 50% of forests world-wide are destroyed by storms.
From 30% to 50% of mines world-wide are destroyed by earthquakes.

Cool idea however, i think this could actually be a cool, very rare event to have

City Buster:
- City it impacts is destroyed
- BFC becomes unusable crater terrain
- Destruction of improvements on a 6x6
- If impact is on land: surrounding cities get quake damage (buildings destroyed), cities under size 4 are destroyed
- If impact is on water: nearby cities get tsunami damage (buildings destroyed), cities under size 4 are destroyed

Earth Day (not-so-useful-nonrandom-event)

  • Civ automatically adopts environmentalism for 1 turn. (No anarchy, and this happens even if your civ does not have appropriate tech)
  • All factories cease adding production for 1 turn
  • Coal is obsolete for 1 turn
  • +1:) in Civs that already have environmentalism

Andersen LLC
- corporation
- spread by "Inexperienced Staff Auditors"
- consumes 1:) and 1:health: (will remove from city permanently)
- generates +4:commerce: and +4:espionage: per turn
- Made obsolete 70 years after The Enron (Not-So-Useful Corporation) [tm] Asprilla [/tm] is built, and civilizations to which the Andersen LLC has spread gain -4 "This is BS!" penalty against founder.
- 1 year before being made obsolete, random city with the Andersen LLC founds a new corporation - "Accenture" similar to Andersen LLC, though latter is still made obsolete a year later.

Nuclear Radiation (Not too useful random event)

- +2 :yuck: generated in all tiles within 1 tile of the city (Affecting a total of 9 tiles)
- A radioactive Bear is created 1 tile away from the city, with the Attack_city_lemmings AI and 200 :strength:
- All tiles within a radius of 10 from the city have a 10% chance of suffering Global Warming

Lemmings:

Requires Animal Husbandry, Writing, and population in excess of 10, and the city must be unhealthy.

On a random turn, all great people from the affected city run into the sea, causing -2 :science: -2 :hammers: -4 :gold: -1 :culture:

The next turn, 1 population runs into the sea. +1 :crazyeye: +1 :food: +1 :health:

This continues until the city is empty, triggering the Barbs-Waltzing-Into-City-Unopposed Event, or the city becomes healthy, causing your Aqueduct and Granary to burn to the ground. This is known as the Murphy's Law Event.

Wikipeida said:
Lemmings do not engage in mass suicidal dives off cliffs when migrating. They will, however, occasionally, and unintentionally fall off cliffs when venturing into unknown territory, with no knowledge of the boundaries of the environment. The misconception is due largely to the Disney film White Wilderness, which shot many of the migration scenes (also staged by using multiple shots of different groups of lemmings) on a large, snow-covered turntable in a studio. Photographers later pushed the lemmings off a cliff.

Lemmings aren't as stupid as you think (but only by a little bit.)

I do like the Barbs-Waltzing-Into-City-Unopposed Event and the Murphy's Law Event.

The Baikal Amur Mainline (Not-so-useful Terrain Improvement)
  • Can only be built on forested Tundra tiles.
  • Cannot be built within 5 plots of an existing city.
  • Must be built within 3 plots of an existing railway.
  • Does not contribute to your trade network in any way.
  • While building the Baikal Amur Mainline, one must use all of one's Workers for building it in order to finish construction in time. In addition, it consumes 33% of your treasury every turn.
  • There is a chance that a city will pop up on a tile thus improved. This city will be abandoned automatically 10 turns later, and will never have access to electricity or running water.
  • Any forests in the vicinity of the BAM are chopped, but without any production benefit, and you get -2 relations with every civilization that is running Environmentalism.
  • There is a 70% chance that a sudden blizzard destroys the rail tracks you have just built.
  • When you're about to finally complete the BAM, it will be declared unprofitable and the project will be cancelled. You will however, get +1 gold per turn from tourism.
