As Hannah, had a neighborhood looking something like this.

Ethne
Me
Kandros Fir
Beeri Bawl

Started on the tower of mastery. Got jumped by all 3. Figured I was ready. Army concentrated on both sides. Left side army hit Ethne first, and took a city of hers. Her culture from a neighboring city completely engulfed the city, which I foolishly kept.

On her turn she popped sanctuary.

My western army is now stuck. Ethne won't talk. No gifting the city back to her to free my men.

I took my hardest swing at Ethne, missed, punched through a wall, and got my arm stuck. Kandros threw his full weight on my free arm. Beeri beat me like a rented mule.

And thus ends the story of my first FFH loss.

I want to throw my monitor out my window.

That's quite an interesting strategy the AI pulled off there.

Cant you liberate city through the city menu?

If by "strategy" you mean the Elohim using their spell as soon as they start a turn at war (as they are programmed to always do) or, by declaring war on you so long as they were not already at war with someone (as all civs are programmed to do).

If you had glanced at the code it would have been obvious that this would happen.

I like to think the AI did it intentionally.

Whatever. You're just jealous you didn't think of it first. :p

Honestly, I've always hated sanctuary, since my army got stuck inside Basium's lands, which were encircled in my *ally* Ethne's borders. I wasn't willing to wait for the spell to end.

This is a strategy game, but nonetheless I think most players like playing with some lack of knowledge of ai tactics, such as they are. There are enough options to counter the ai without knowing in advance every hole in their logic.

Now of course, if your goal is to find bugs or suggest better ai tactics, by all means scour the code as you do, your help is great! But I think most players want to leave some of it up to their imagination.

@ Monkeyfinger LOL.... Thats a really novel offensive use of what was intended as a peaceful spell...... I have visions of a secret war council before they declared, that went along the lines of:- "I'll hold im... you hit im!" :)

@ Nikis-Knight and all... Is there a way to programme a "threat-index" into the Ai, based on turn number, AC count, number and power of invading units, turns at war etc This would allow the AI to make a reasonably rational decision as to when to use it's world spell. One thing that MagisterCultuum does point out is that base numbers, ie blight at AC 40 or simple logic And/Nots are too easily exploitable by players. Ie....Ljosalfar March of trees... declare war, send one unit in...wait 5 turns... exploit a civ that is now having feeding problems coz they just trashed their trees. Their forests would be much more frightening if your were never sure when (if) they were gonna use it!

@ MagisterCultuum You spoilt my day! I thought they'd planned it!

Just one question.

You said that you still had an eastern army.

What happened to them ?

See, even when Kandros and Beeri go for you it is still taking them some time to combine their forces. This should have given you the time to crush each invading force individually.

I do not know, what means army in your sense.

My typical army consists of 4-5 Meele Units, 4 Fireball Units, 2 Support Units (Mages, who can cast Haste, Regeneration, Valor, Courage etc.) and 1-2 Divine Units (Priests whatever), 1 Hero Unit

This combination I normally have twice. (like in your case Western and Eastern Army)

As my melee unit are always up to the mark (I wont fight with warrior in late game) I never had any trouble to crush neither any defender stack nor any invader stack .. So I why is your game gone, just because your Western Army got stuck ???

Yeah. It is a nice surprize (as like as breaking peace by barbs vs Clan) but it works only once. I also met that before already.

The Elohim don't always cast Sanctuary immediately after being DOWed. I just got through a game with the Lanun and they lost half their cities to the Svartalfar, but it wasn't until I jumped in as well that they cast Sanctuary. Maybe they don't use it against the AI?

Actually, the AI can only use Sanctuary if at war with at least 2 civs at the same time, so what I said earlier isn't quite accurate.

That happened to me too, in Next War, where my army was stuck by a stupid peace treaty:(

But that's some accidentally brilliant AI (here: -intelligence, not -idiotism)
