NotW XLI: Chronomancy Redux [Game Thread]

Spoiler Worker :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Worker!

Race: Male Kuriotates
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Hammer (+1 Strength) [One Hand Slot]

A worker makes his finest gold on the frontier, and you were no exception to this ideal. Setting off from your homeland in search of fame and fortune, you joined the caravan as an unskilled laborer to aid with the archaeologist’s expedition. Little do you expect this “expedition” to turn into a possible “execution”.

A fine and hardy worker, you know there’s no sense in getting pessimistic about the situation. With enough hard work and dedication, these evils can be rooted out and disposed of, and your coin can yet be made amongst these ruins

Ability: Stubborn Soul – Your stubbornness even in the face of total annihilation causes your soul to linger despite any damage to your body – even being thrown into the Soul Well. No matter how you are disposed of, you will always come back to life if time is rewound.
Personal Goal: Although it seems quite unpleasant, if you could survive being lynched and then have time be unwound to restore you to life, you’re sure that everyone would understand your good intentions. This is your personal goal.

Not much to say here. He was immune to permakills. Hammer upgraded into Warhammer, a +2 Strength One-Handed Item.

Spoiler Tanner :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Tanner!

Race: Male Malakim
Alignment: Good
Strength: 2
Faction: Chronomancer
Item: Pocketwatch (This item is actually a powerful time-monitoring magical item. It can be used once. Using it allows you to know instantly – and without error – every person who used an action during this phase) [Consumable]

Tanning by day, time-warping by night, you are among the secret cult of time mages in the village of Hajii. Having learned your craft years ago from the Archmage TheForestAuro, you are perhaps the second-most powerful Chronomancer in the village – only the prodigal Innkeeper’s Son wields more raw power than you, and he is still young and inexperienced.

If there is any hope of survival for your art, it lies with the your order. You must be a strong leader if the Chronomancers hope to survive this disaster.

Ability: Phase – Every night you may pick a target to phase out of the continuum. They can neither be the target or abilities nor activate any items or abilities of their own. [This is a NIGHT PHASE action.]
Personal Goal: Prevent the death of one of your teammates by phasing them out of existence. Doing so will give you the experience and knowledge to improve your phasing power even more.

The phasing completely blocked anything going to or from the target, with the exception of the Beggar's Haste effect, which could be used to phase two targets out even if the Beggar or the Tanner were one of the targets. Pocketwatch could not be upgraded.

Spoiler Spirit Mage :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Spirit Mage!

Race: Female Amurite
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Ironwood Staff (+1 Strength, +25% chance of an unclean lynch if lynched)

You joined the caravan to Malakim lands as a way to further your studies, but all you have found here so far (especially in Hajii, the village you’re trapped in) is thirst, oppressive heat, and death around every corner. They say that Golden Leane is a civilized city, but you’ve come to doubt any part of this sun-blasted wasteland is truly worth staying for. If you survive you’re taking the first caravan BACK to civilized lands.

Ability: Soultouch – If an ability is used upon you, you will be able to pick a new target for this ability as well, which will take place on the next phase after the one in which you were affected. This ability functions even after death.
Personal Goal: Your soul is hardy. If you can successfully use your ability to kill the person who killed you, you can instead possess their body and come back to life (at the expense of theirs).

I swear that ability NEVER gets used. No matter how much I try ;_;. Ironwood Staff Upgrades into Reinforced Ironwood Staff, which is +1 Str, +1 Vote Strength, and +25% chance of unclean lynch.

Spoiler Savant :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Savant!

Race: Male Sheaim
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 2
Faction: Innocent
Item: Cloak of Resistance (Every lynch against you is always an unclean lynch) [Accessory Slot]

You’re a missionary on a suicide mission, that’s for sure. Your superiors have either gone off the deep end (for sending you to a desert wasteland where the locals worship the god of light himself) or are trying to get rid of you. You suspect the latter.

When this mess about demons started kicking up, things got even worse. Everyone is sure to suspect you for inviting them into their midst because of your faith, when in reality you had nothing to do with their appearance, and probably are at great personal risk yourself at their hands.

This is going to be a great weekend.

Ability: Blood Seer – By injuring yourself, you can read your blood to scan any of the following things on one individual: Strength, Alignment, or if they are currently active during the phase. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: Survive for six days. By then the scarring will allow you to scan without injuring yourself, although it will be a miracle if they don’t lynch you before then.

One of the evil townies. I liked this ability, but alas...
Cloak of Resistance upgraded into Greater Cloak of Resistance, which made him have a 50/50 chance of resisting harmful abilities used on him as well as it's original effect.

Spoiler Innkeeper's Son :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Innkeeper’s Son!

Race: Male Amurite Human
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 1
Faction: Chronomancer
Item: Marble Hourglass (This is a one-use item. When you activate this item, the phase you are currently in will continue as normal and all end-of-phase actions will occur. You will get to see the result of all such occurrences. However, time will reset, and all such actions will be undone, and the phase will start over as if it had never happened.) [Consumable]

They say that history has a funny way of repeating itself. As a historian, you have seen these patterns and chuckled to yourself, knowing that time was not as fluid and unshakable as it seemed. You have long been a hidden student of those same arts that now are persecuted amongst the magical community, but you know full well that the secret to life itself lies in Chronomancy.

You’re actually several hundred years old. Your studies extended all the way through the Age of Ice and back to the Age of Magic, where you first became interested as a young Amurite adept. Since then, your power has grown considerably, and with the death of the Archmagus TheForestAuro, you are now surely the most powerful Chronomancer alive.

But there have been…complications. Seventeen years ago, these same demons that now haunt you in Hajii were close on your tail and you devised a plan that you thought foolproof. De-aging yourself to that of a babe, you locked away the secrets of Chronomancy until your mind was unlocked by the Archmagus, and dutifully played the role of the Innkeeper’s (adopted) son. The demons have caught on to your trickery, however, and running isn’t an option anymore…

Ability: End of The Line – Your control over time and space is unmatched. Every night, you may concentrate on one individual, and that individual will be horrified to find themselves aging at a rate fast enough to kill them by the morning. However, this body is young and an unreliable conduit for your magic. The consequences of using this ability may be more than you can handle. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: Use your Marble Hourglass to reverse your own death. Your power over time will be complete after that.

His ability had a 33% chance of hitting the person above or below his target on the list instead. If he had used the Hourglass to reverse his own death, he gained the ability to basically warp the game to any Phase he wanted to, including past the storm. This is one of the ways to escape the storm. Hourglass cannot be upgraded.

Spoiler Desert Guide :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Desert Guide!

Race: Malakim Male
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Chronomancer
Item: Scimitar (+1 Strength) [One Hand Slot]

You lived in Hajii for a long time, although you do spend much of your time outside it’s protective walls these days. Basing out of the Svartalfar fringe cities to the west and offering a guide service to caravans crossing the desert to Golden Leane, you’ve made quite a pretty profit.

Profit, however, was never the point of your efforts. It was just a cover for your true role – the leading of potential new recruits to Hajii, a protected oasis town where the Chronomancer Order has based out of for centuries. Once in Hajii, time could be warped to allow for as much time as necessary to screen potential new Chronomancers, and slowly add to your ranks.

This time, however, it seems as if you’ve led the wrong people to your little town.

Ability: Keen Eye – You are a born desert ranger, and part of surviving in the wastes is knowing what is and isn’t a threat. You may observe someone during both the morning and afternoon phases to learn their present strength. [This ability can be used during the MORNING PHASE and AFTERNOON PHASE]

Personal Goal: It has always disappointed you that despite of the integral part of the Chronomancy team that you play, you still know very little of the actual art. You long to help in a more direct way by helping activate team abilities. Every time you participate in a team ability, your next scan will show both their current and base strength.

This character is sort of supposed to be a blank townie-type that assists in the Chronomancers having someone who doesn't seem like a Chronomancer, and gives them that 4th member that they need since the game basically depends on them being alive. Scimitar upgrades into Keen Scimitar, which is a +2 One Handed Weapon.

Spoiler Lightbringer :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Lightbringer!

Race: Malakim Male
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Everburning Torch (As long as your strength is higher than your attackers, you are immune to night kills) [One Hand Slot]

You are a servant of Lugus, God of Light, and a member of the celebrated Malakim tradition that is the Lightbringer scouts. Your reputation is that of reliable pathfinding and expeditious movement of small groups throughout the nation, all while avoiding the major pitfalls that the desert has become known for.

But for once, you are not in charge of leading this caravan. It had been truly a blessing, more or less being able to relax on the trip from Svartalfar Lands to Hajii, but with disaster striking it may be up to you to show others the light…

Ability: Trailblaze – This is an activated ability. Whenever you use this ability on another player, all attempts by others to use abilities on them will succeed regardless of protections or immunities. [This ability may be used in ANY PHASE to change its target, and is ALWAYS ACTIVE.]
Personal Goal: You have heard that amongst the demons and the Chronomancers there are a group of Honor paladins roaming this villa. If you could clear the way for one of them using your ability and directly contribute to the slaying of a demon (or at least have your ability active on a demon when a Paladin slays them), you truly would feel like an instrument of the light.

Malakim-flavored unit with an antiroleblock sort of ability. This ability could be used against even Phased targets. Everburning torch cannot be upgraded.

Spoiler Quartermaster :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Quartermaster!

Race: Male Kuriotates Dwarf
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Dwarven Iron Helm (+1 Strength) [Head Slot]

As a part-time resident of Hajii, and employee of the caravan that is currently stranded here, you manage the day-to-day rationing and equipment usage. Your job has become far more annoying now that everyone is involved over this mass hysteria. Just because demons attack the town and forbidden magic is resurfaced doesn’t mean the world is going to end!

Oh. That IS serious. Damn! This one is going to be a tight fit for an old dwarf like you if you want to survive. Where did you leave your glasses?

Ability: Swap – Every night, you may leave a thank-you note on any player’s bedside table, along with an item of yours that you choose. You will then randomly steal one of their items, and consider the trade equal and done [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: If, through your shenanigans, you can acquire a full set of Dwarven Iron Armor (Helm, Plate, Greaves), your old battle techniques might return to you.

Teehee, itemswap. All Dwarven items just upgrade into Dwarven Steel items, which gives them +1 Strength.

Another game spurred on to its end in part by inactivity. :(

Spoiler Beggar :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Beggar!

Race: Male Malakim
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1(2)
Faction: Chronomancer
Item: Walking Staff (+1 Strength) [Two Hand Slots]

A beggar by day, time mage by night, you are one of the secret members of the hidden art of Chronomancy. Between you and the others, you are the last remnants of the lost secrets of time manipulation and you fully understand the necessity for secrecy – even to go as far as keeping up the sullen lifestyle the Chronomancers rescued you from years ago.

Even now demons hunt the last of you, and it looks as if their efforts have been more successful than not – although they have not found you yet, they are already dangerously close and you suspect that sacred blood will be spilled before these days are over.

Ability: Accelerate – You may use your powers over space and time to allow a player who has a targeted, non-kill ability to select an additional target for their ability. You may not use this ability on yourself. [This is an ANY phase ability, but takes one full cycle to recharge]
Personal Goal: If you could gain enough items to fill all of your slots (Head, Body, Both Hands, Lower Body, Feet, Accessory), you could legitimately rise from your beggar status without having any attention being drawn towards your brethren. This is your personal goal, and you are certain that rewards will spill forth if you complete it.

Nifty ability, and if the PG gets completed he gains a vote-switching ability similar to the Orators and the Noble's. Walking Staff becomes Magic Staff, which grants +1 Vote Strength.

Spoiler Appraiser :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Appraiser!

Race: Male Infernal (Appear to be Male Svartalfar Elf)
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 2 (4)
Faction: Demon
Item: Ancient Infernal Armor – (+2 Strength) [Body Slot]

There are few mortal abilities that truly can gain the attention of the infernal horde. Humans and their ilk pall before the might of the demons from their nightmares, and even the most powerful of souls often fall corrupt under the influence of your mighty banner. But the ability to shift time itself? This, indeed, was problematic for your masters, and you have been assigned to finding the last of the mortal Chronomancers for decades now.

Assisting your Lord, disguised as the Adventurer, you have finally tracked the stench of Chronomancy to this tiny village in the desert. It is only a matter of time before you are finally rewarded for your diligence

Ability: Stench – Through centuries of honed instincts, you can smell the telltale signs of mortal magic. During every phase, you may target any individual with this ability and if they use any magic, you will know. Although your senses are not keen enough to tell the type being used, mortal collateral damage is more of a bonus than anything else [This is a MORNING, AFTERNOON, and NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: If you can successfully scan every magic user in the game, your job will be complete, and your ability will shift to that of an additional kill ability for your team.

Infernal items cannot be upgraded. His extra kill was non-permanent.

Spoiler Hermit :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Hermit!

Race: Male Malakim
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Hermit’s Map (This ability allows those who have it to find your cache) [USEABLE ITEM]

You’ve long lived in Hajii (or at least near it) and so far you’ve more or less found that nobody in that blasted town is worth communicating with, outside of your occasional need for supplies. But now that disaster has struck, you’ve been forced into (gulp) social contact with your fellow villagers

At least they don’t know about your hidden spot. Underneath the Inn porch! They’ll never find your things there! Ha!

Ability: Secret Cache – Every night, you can sneak away and put an item (except for the map) into your secret cache. Nobody except you (you know the way by heart) or an individual with the map can find this cache, and any items in it are considered not to be on you for purposes of benefits or scanning. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: If you can fill up your cache (5 items) you might be able to remember where your last cache was…

Oh yeah, he was telling the truth. There was only two items in his cache if he completed his goal, but they were a Dire Flail (+3 Strength, Immune to Lynches) and Cursed Ring (You cannot give this ring away, and your vote strength becomes 0).

Spoiler Miner :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Miner!

Race: Male Malakim
Alignment: Good
Strength: 2
Faction: Innocent
Item: Steel-Toed Mining Boots (+1 Strength) [Feet Slot]

As a lifelong prospector and miner, you’ve grown hardy over the years and have led a life of hard work. This has fostered into you a sense of accomplishment, and you’ve grown to very much like the person you’ve become. This town has seen its fair share of bad omens in days before this, and although this might be the worst, you’re confident that everyone can band together and extinguish the threat of these demons before they can wreck all that Hajii has built up for itself.

Ability: Unshakable – Your vote breaks all ties.
Personal Goal: Break a tie that results in the lynching of a demon. Every time you accomplish this, your vote strength increases by one.

Move along here, nothing to see. Boots can be upgraded for +1 Str

Spoiler Archaeologist :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Archaelogist!

Race: Calabim (Vampire) Female
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Circlet of Persuasion (All Lynches against you are considered unclean lynches, unless the vote against you is unanimous) [Head Slot]

A famous archaelogist from Kuriotates lands, you joined the caravan to see what secrets you could unearth deep within the Malakim deserts. It is only through extraordinary bad luck that you managed to miss your first caravan and get stuck on the one where demons come out to kill everyone.

Or maybe that’s just how Malakim lands are. This sounds terrible. You’ll have to check your notes on this one.

Ability: Stalwart Mind – Your sense of time and education about history, as well as your vampiric nature, has set your mind and spirit in a curiously stable place in the space-time continuum. You are immune to all forms of Chronomancy unless they affect the entire game as well.
Personal Goal: Do not let anyone know that you are a vampire. As long as the secret is safe and not exposed in the public thread, your strength is doubled at all times.

I have to admit, I randomly generated roles for everyone except for earthling >.> Circlet of Persuasion upgrades for +1 Vote Strength.

Spoiler Innkeeper's Wife :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Innkeeper’s Wife!

Race: Hippus Female
Alignment: Good
Strength: 2 (4)
Faction: Innocent
Item: Enchanted Steel Frying Pan (+2 Strength) [One Hand Slot]

Back in the day, you rode with the fierce warriors of the Hippus people, calling the open plains your home and the fierce din of battle your husband. This was, of course, before that dashing innkeeper ran across you during your travels and you helplessly fell head-over-heels for the man. Both of you decided that enough was enough, and that your lives as travelling warriors could not sustain a family. Finding an out-of-the-way desert village on the fringes of Malakim lands, you set out to create a family in peace.

But now battle chases you, finally, after all these years. Very well. You’ll meet it head on.

Ability: Beatdown – Every night, as long as you have a weapon, you may pick a player to bludgeon during the night. As long as your strength is higher, they will be knocked unconscious for the evening and be unable to take any actions. If their strength is higher, however, you may become injured. Or worse. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]

Personal Goal: As long as your family still lives in its entirety, you do not risk any injury from a failed use of your ability. Keeping them alive is your highest priority.

Roleblocker! Got bonked on the head? It was Frozen. Frying pan is best weapon in the game, upgrades to give +4 in one hand.

Spoiler Engineer :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Engineer!

Race: Male Kuriotates Dwarf
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1 (2)
Faction: Innocent
Item: Dwarven Iron Greaves (+1 Strength) [Lower Body Slot]

You have always been a tinkerer, and by and large you’ve found that the more remote and uninhabited a place is, the better the loot to be found and messed with. That’s why you took this caravan from the west into these deserts, hoping to join an expedition to forgotten tombs or at least to learn more about Malakim technology and culture. Little did you know that this was the expedition straight to almost certain doom.

Perhaps your skills may of be use to those who wish to prevent this catastrophe.

Ability: Improve – You don’t get much sleep. During the night, you may improve any item in your possession. Each item is improved in a unique way, and you won’t know the results of such an improvement until you do so [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: You wonder if these demon have any artifacts from their Infernal Home. If you could acquire a piece of Infernal equipment and tinker with it, you are certain you could produce something wondrous.

Item upgrader, also one of the holders of the Dwarven armor. He got murdered by Hark early on, but a rewind revived him from the dead because he was only temporarily dead. The only such occurance of that in the game, ironically. item upgrades for +1 Str.

Spoiler Knight :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Knight!

Race: Bannor Male
Alignment: Good
Strength: 2 (4)
Faction: Paladin
Item: Holy Sword (+2 Strength) [Two Hand Slots]

It is but pure chance that you joined the caravan that led you to this place, but you are certain that your presence here will lead to a victory of the light, and triumph of that which is good and proper. All around you, corruption of the spirit exists – whether it be in the form of demon-possessed humans or heretical Chronomancers.

You have a mandate from the heavens, and that is the clear out the sickness from this town. You will not rest, nor spare your blade, while there is still work to be done.

Ability: Smite Evil – Every afternoon, you may select a target to be the recipient of your divine justice. In broad daylight, for everyone to see, you will kill them. If they are, indeed, evil, your god will destroy their soul and they will become permanently dead. [This is an AFTERNOON PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: If you can personally slay all the demons yourself, you and your team will instantly win the game with the innocents.

The "Hero". Holy Sword upgrades into Heavenly Blade, which makes him immune to abilities from Evil Players as well as it's STR bonus. Almost completed his PG.

Spoiler Innkeeper :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Innkeeper!

Race: Hippus Male
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1 (3)
Faction: Innocent
Item: Leather Riding Armor (+1 Strength) [Body Slot]
Item: Leather Riding Cap (+1 Strength) [Head Slot]

Formerly a dashing Hippus captain, your entire world was turned upside down one night when a grizzled old warlord, on his deathbed, commanded you raise his son as your own. He told you with his last words – of which you were honored to have heard – that he had hidden a secret lover for the last years of his life and she had borne him a son only recently. He did not wish for the child to live a life of battlefield strife like he had done, and so commanded you away with his child.

You took your wife – also a seasoned warrior – and settled down as a mere innkeeper in a fringe Malakim oasis village. Although you and your wife still bear the markings of battle, you have spared your son a life of danger. You only hope that you can keep it up under the threat of demons and Chronomancers.

Ability: Snoop - As everyone is presently staying in the Inn, it is very easy to check the belongings of those who do not hide them. Every night, you may check one player for his or her belongings, although you would never steal from loyal customers [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: Although you have come to love the life of peace very much, you sometimes wonder what great things you could have accomplished if you had stuck to a life of war. If you can acquire at least +2 Strength worth of weapons, you may be able to use them against enemies of the town!

He could gain an injuring second ability had he completed his PG. His scan also revealed in some part what was happening to whoever he was spying on, and he actually caught Jaremma in the act like several times. His armor upgraded into +1 more Str versions of the originals.

Spoiler Thug :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Thug!

Race: Malakim Male
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Greatclub (+1 Strength) [Two Hand Slots, although just one for you]

Your life has not been a complex series of events – you are a thug. You’ve always really been a bully, but nothing you’ve ever done pales in comparison to the evil at work here. You’re a badass and you’re pretty sure others would classify you somewhere south of “compassionate”, but if you can put those skills to good use in defense against demons, then you by all means will not shrink from the “right thing” to do.

Ability: Monkey Grip – You can use two-handed items in one hand.
Personal Goal: Life is about strength. If you can amass a Strength of 10, you will become immune to physical kill effects. In addition to this, while you have a strength of 10, the town cannot lose due to another team’s strength victory.

Kind of a filler character. Greatclub could not be upgraded. PG provides interesting secondary passive abilities, though.

Spoiler Earth Mage :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Earth Mage!

Race: Female Amurite
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1 (2)
Faction: Innocent
Item: Stone Shield (+1 Strength) [One-Handed Slot]

A member of the caravan that was headed for more prosperous Malakim lands, you were waylayed by all this demonic nonsense that seems certain to make at least a passing attempt at your life. You intend to make it a least challenging for them – a true mage does not go down without a fight!

Ability: Stoneskin – This spell, when used, doubles the strength of the target for the next phase. This ability takes one full day to recharge. [This is an ANY phase ability]
Personal Goal: Each time you successfully resist a lynch (through a lucky unclean lynch) or a kill attempt, your own base strength will rise by 1.

Also something of a filler, although could conceivably win or lose the game for other factions if their ability was used on the wrong person (or the right person, like JHT)

Spoiler Mercenary :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Mercenary!

Race: Male Grigori Human
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent, but Flexible (See Personal Goal)
Item: Onyx Charm (This item protects you from any ability or item that would otherwise reduce your vote strength or redirect your vote target) [Accessory Slot]
Item: Longsword (+1 Strength) [One Handed Slot]

It has been a long time since you slept properly, and you fear that it will be a long time yet. Hired by the caravan to keep things nice and quiet on the long journey from the west into the desert, you question little that whcih keeps you here financially. Ever since you learned about the possibility of time magic, however, you find yourself pondering the secrets of these mages in your sleepless night hours.

Perhaps it is their magic that will ultimately save you from this. Or perhaps it will be your quick wit and able blade. Only time will tell.

Ability: Strikeback - You are always alert to danger, and your insomnia keeps you alert and ready at almost all hours. If someone seeks to end your life, so be it, but you won’t go down without a fight. As long as you have a weapon, you cannot be killed by anyone with a equal or lower strength than you, and will actively injure anyone who tries.
Personal Goal: Although you very much wish not to die in this terrible war between demons and time mages, you understand that sometimes living means joining those who you cannot beat. If you can meet a member of another faction, you can (with their permission) switch your faction to match theirs. This ability works at any time, but you cannot switch back to Innocent once you have switched away.

Possibly an interesting find, could have given the Chronomancers an extra rewinder. Strikeback was never used, although it's a less powerful version of the Painter from the original Chronomancy (hi, choxorn!) Onyx CHarm upgrades into +40% unclean lynch chance.

Spoiler Merchant :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Merchant!

Race:
Male Kuriotates
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Boots of Escape (+30% chance of an unclean lynch) [Feet Slot Item]

A merchant through and through, you have dedicated your life to selling things. You joined a caravan leading from the western lands into the heat-blasted desert of the Malakim hoping to acquires some quality goods and spices to sell back to foolish nobility in the more “civilized” lands, but it appears as if you have run afowl of the local demonic terror harems. Oh, and time magic. Wonderful.

Ability: Thievery – During the Night, you can sneak into a player’s room and steal one item from them. You must know, at least vaguely, what item you are looking for. (“a weapon”, or “a cloak”) [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: Nobody must know about your particular method of “acquiring” goods. If at any point your ability is revealed in the public thread (as belonging to you) then your vote strength will forever be reduced to 0.

Had an item stolen? It was Momo. Although he wasn't allowed to tell anyone about his ability, basically. Boots of Escape could be upgraded to escape a lynch once.

Spoiler Hunter :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Hunter!

Race: Female Malakim
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1 (3)
Faction: Innocent
Item: Composite Longbow (+2 Strength) [Two Hand Slots]

A long time resident of Hajii, you have primarily supported yourself through the hunting and sale of what little game resides around the oasis. More often than not, you make far more off of trade caravans passing through and buying components of the variety of esoteric monster parts you’ve managed to collect. The caravan that came into the village just yesterday initially seemed quite personable and altogether what you’ve come to expect out of them, but it didn’t take long for THAT to be proven wrong

You suspect your keen senses will be essential to surviving this ordeal with a home intact.

Ability: Hunter’s Watch – Every night, you may pick a player to keep an eye on. If they leave their homes or rooms at all, you’ll know. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: You like for your voice to mean something when it is heard, and firmly believe in keeping quiet when words aren’t required. For every two days you don’t cast a lynch vote, your next lynch vote will gain a temporary +1 vote strength. This ability stacks with itself, but resets every time you vote.

Renata was very active, although her PG did not come into play much. She was able to successfully identify General Olaf as a Chronomancer, though. Longbow upgrades into a nonpermanent kill item.

Spoiler Countess :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Countess!

Race: Svartalfar Elf Female
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Mirror of Reflection (This item allows you to effectively “set” your alignment for the purposes of scans. It is currently set to Neutral. It can be set during any phase, and can be used as often as you like, with a limit of once per phase) [Accessory Slot]

Travelling from your home in the west on a diplomatic mission to important ambassadors in Golden Leane, you find yourself ill-suited for this place. The desert is a hot, dry place very much devoid of life and very much abundant in light and truth. It will be a blessing to leave this region, and any assistance you can provide to accelerate this process without it ending in your death is more than offered to the public

Ability: Negotiator’s Eye – During the Afternoon, you can strike up a conversation with any player and detect their alignment [This is an AFTERNOON PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: You love accessories, and try your best to collect them. For every accessory you receive, you will gain an additional ACCESSORY SLOT, effectively allowing you to wear as many of these items as you wish.

Alignment Scanner, possibly very helpful to the Paladins if they had worked together. Could wear infinite accessories so conceivably might have had some pretty impressive auxiliary effects from them.

Spoiler Orator :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Orator!

Race: Male Bannor
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Paladin
Item: Holy Vestments (+1 Vote Strength) [Body Slot]

Faith is, in essence, a tricky thing that has no anchor to logic and owes its allegiance to emotion and spirituality. While the Knight is the military arm of the church, you are the people’s connection to the faith of your homeland, and have been trained in the ways of the public speaker.

A true believer of the Order knows that there are sacred things laid down for mortals, things that should not be messed with. Time is one of those things, and a Chronomancer is a heretic. You cannot wait to inform these ill-educated masses.

Ability: Advise – Though these sheep are not of your flock, they fear death like any other. During the Afternoon, you can target one player and switch his vote to a target of your liking [This is an AFTERNOON PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: Your abilities were given to you by the gods, and you eagerly wish to employ them in their service. If your vote change is used as part of a successful lynch against a Chronomancer, you will gain an additional use of your ability every afternoon. This goal stacks with itself.

I'm pretty sure Romanichine caused an unclean lynch by tying the vote with his Holy Vestments one day. I'm also pretty sure he had the power to switch up to 3 votes before he died. Holy Vestments upgraded to give +1 strength as well.

Spoiler Adventurer :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Adventurer! (You are actually a powerful Infernal Lord.)

Race: Male Infernal Demon (appear as Male Grigori Human)
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 4 (6)
Faction: Demons
Item: Ancient Infernal Greatsword (+2 Strength) [Two Hand Slots]

It has been so long since you were assigned the task of hunting down the last of the mortal time mages, but with the aid of your minions you finally have succeeded in pinning down the location of the old Archmagus. Disposing of him in a public spectacle, you spelled out the doom you intend to lay upon the rest of the pathetic clan, and then summoned a demonic sandstorm to finish the job if you could not personally extinguish the cult in a mere three days. Call it a…personal challenge, if you will.

Nobody can stand in your way. This is your moment of triumph. Revel in it.

Ability: Devour Soul – Every night, you can shift into your demonic form and devour one of these pesky mortals, completely destroying their soul and killing them permanently in the process [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: You fear the jaws of death, even with time mages about, and the anxiety of your decades of questing somehow coming to an end before the pinnacle of you efforts has wracked even your immortal mind. Every time you temporarily die, you lose one strength, to a minimum of 1.

Save_Ferris was woefully inactive in the beginning and middle parts of the game, but rallied back after his whole team died to pop a Paladin. Infernal items cannot be upgraded.

Spoiler Summoner :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Summoner!

Race: Male Amurite
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Invisibility Cloak (You are immune to scans of any kind) [Accessory Slot]

A local adept that recently began to master the secrets of conjuration, you have long been a useful member of your community. When your rich parents offered you the chance to learn from the most prestigious Malakim sorcerers, you jumped at the chance and found yourself on a caravan leading to the beautiful capital of Golden Leane merely a month later. Your dreams came to a crashing halt, however, when this talk of Demons and Time Mages came to a head with the death of the Archmagus TheForestAuro.

If this problem can be dealt with quickly and efficiently, then you foresee no problems escaping this grisly fate ahead of you. The only alternative is death anyways, is it not?

Ability:
Summon Mephit – You have the ability to summon a fire elemental capable of destroying items, should you seek to. This ability works on any item you currently have, and cannot be used on other players. [This is a NIGHT PHASE ability]
Personal Goal: You truly believe you have the capacity to help defeat these demons. If you manage to destroy all of the Infernal items in the game, you will discover new and extraordinary powers blossoming within you.

Summoner was supposed to attract people into thinking he was a demon or allied with them, but if he successfully destroyed all of the Infernal armor, he became a Demon himself and could continue their mission. Plot twist there! Invisiblity Cloak upgraded to also give +1 Strength.

Spoiler Explorer :

You are the Explorer!

Race: Male Grigori Human
Alignment: Neutral
Strength: 1
Faction: Innocent
Item: Assassin’s Kukri (+1 Strength, this item can be used during the Night Phase to attack anyone. If your strength is higher than theirs, they will die) [One Hand Slot]

A seasoned veteran of the dangerous wilds, you consider the current situation nothing more than another chapter in your illustrious career. Demons? Check. Ancient cult of powerful mages? Check. The constant threat of death? Check. All in a day’s work

Ability:
Runandhide-amancy – If there is one thing being an explorer has taught you, it’s how to avoid the wrath of an angry mob. You are immune to lynches.
Personal Goal: Survive. If you can survive the entire game without dying once, you will earn your own, special victory which will be above any other, leaving you as the game’s only true winner.

I thought Yoshiegg was going to get away with it too. He was lulzing at that last lynch attempt, I'm sure. Kukri upgrades to give +1 more strength, but it was never used sadly. It's a nonpermanent kill.

Spoiler Porter :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Porter!

Race: Male Luchuirp Dwarf
Alignment: Good
Strength: 1
Faction: Paladin
Item: Dwarven Iron Breastplate – (+1 Strength) [Body Slot Item]

A more specialized and behind the scenes member of the church, you are a member of a small sect of dwarven defenders that actively follow around crusading knights and evangelizing orators, defending their lives from those that do not seek to fight them in the light. Masquerading on this caravan as a simple dwarven porter, it is your job to ensure that the Knight can conquer his foes without and fear of being killed while he sleeps.

Although you have heard many things about Chronomancers, you feel as if the only real enemies here are the demons. It is too bad the church demands their deaths as well.

Ability: Vigilance – Through specialized techniques such as napping during the day and not doing any serious work, you are able to stay awake and guard one individual during the night. That individual is immune to night attacks. If your strength is higher than the attacker, you will also injure them.
Personal Goal: Prevent a kill attempt against your Lord, the Knight. Each time you do, your strength will rise by 1.

Harkonnen's bodyguard, and subject of frequent Earthling ire. Earthling was basically demanding he reveal himself as Hark's Doctor, which would have been a really stupid move on Tak's part. Item upgrades to +1 more strength.

Spoiler Noble :
TheForestAuro said:
You are the Noble!

Race: Female Infernal Succubus (Appear as Female Svartalfar Elf)
Alignment: Evil
Strength: 1
Faction: Demons
Item: Ancient Infernal Pendant (+75% chance of an unclean lynch) [ACCESSORY SLOT]

It is truly amazing the things a mortal can accomplish with a flashy enough pair of tits and the right motivation. Ever since possessing this particular body, you’ve been able to secure all sorts of benefits for the other two Infernal infiltrators. Getting three spots on board a caravan heading directly in the direction of the Chronomantic stench was perhaps the easiest.

Although you are a powerful demon, you understand the danger of revealing yourself to the public, especially with so many able combatants apparently travelling alongside you. You would do well to warn your companions that discretion is the better part of total victory.

I believe winston could have switched 2 votes before his death. Both his and the Orator's ability carried a caveat that if they tried to switch more than 1 vote, there was a cumulative 20% chance that they would be revealed as the source of their abilities.

YOU ARE IN THE CHRONOMANCER FACTION!

Welcome to the Chronomancer faction! You are a secretive group of mostly benevolent time mages who practice their secret art in the Malakim village of Hajii. Although the great Archmagus TheForestAuro was the leader of your sect and an invaluable font of knowledge, the order must go on – and in order to do so, must rid itself of its demonic predators once and for all!

The new leader of your order, the Tanner Aiolos, has mastered the ability to Phase people out of the space-time continuum for short periods of time. A long time student of the Archmagus, he is perhaps the most disciplined of you all.

The prodigal Innkeeper’s Son, Backwards Logic, is the newest of your cult but perhaps the most bursting with pure potential. His ability to focus Chronomancy on an individual in order to decelerate or accelerate age could potentially lead to the death of an individual, but he is lacking in technique and is, for the moment, highly erratic in his reliability.

Another veteran of your order, the Beggar Bsmith1068, is distinguished in haste spells, and will surely keep your team moving one step ahead of the opposition.

Although not particularly talented when it comes to the magical arts, the Desert Guide General Olaf is nevertheless a reliable ally and can still muster the magical energies to participate in your team spell. He is also very good at determining the relative strengths of others.

TEAM VICTORY CONDITION – JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE

Although your art is forbidden by certain traditions, you seek no harm upon the innocents of this town. If at any point no factions contain any members except you and the Innocents, you win with the innocents.

TEAM ABILITY – REWIND TIME
This powerful Chronomancy ritual has the ability to rewind time a number of days equal to the number of participants in the ritual. All Night Actions will still occur during the night in which you cast this ritual. This is a Night Phase ability. If you have a night phase ability and you instead participate in this ability, you cannot use your ability that phase.

NOTE: At least one Chronomancer must cast this ability on Night 3. If at any point Day 4 happens, all players will lose and the Demon Team will have a victory, as long as the Demonic Storm still poses a threat.

YOU ARE IN THE PALADIN FACTION!

Welcome to the Paladin Faction! You are a righteous group of Order Paladins focused dually on the protection of this fine village from the machinations of these foul Infernals and the extinguishing of the heretical practice of Chronomancy, which directly violates the principles of your faith by mucking with the natural order of things created by the gods.

Your most obvious member, the Knight HarkonnenII, has the ability to march up to a suspected demon or heretic and slay him on the spot. If he is evil, the Paladin’s righteous energies will destroy his soul and forever remove him from this existence.

Secondly, your team benefits from the Silver-tounged Orator Romanichine, who can sway the terrified townsfolk in their choice of lynch targets.

Lastly, the lowly Porter Takhisis is anything but – as a member of a secretive dwarven sect of defenders, he unassumingly provides protection for one person at night, so that they may live to see the light once more.

TEAM VICTORY CONDITION – CLEANSE THESE STREETS
The Paladin Faction wins when all Demon, Chronomancer, and Evil players are dead. In addition to this, if you can amass enough strength, you can simply put down these villagers to ensure no stragglers escape. They are, in fact, heretics for even allowing Time Mages to walk amongst them, and your Order will surely agree when you report back.

YOU ARE IN THE DEMON FACTION!

Welcome to the Demon Faction! Tasked decades ago to hunt down the Time Mages responsible for a major setback in Infernal influence on Erebus, you have finally tracked their foul mortal stench to a small town in Malakim lands, known as Hajii. Now, only a handful of villagers stands in your way. To make matters worse for the poor mortals, your leader has summoned a terrible demonic sandstorm that will cleanse this village in three days time – more of a time challenge than a backup procedure, as you are sure that it won’t take longer than that to wipe out this insignificant settlement!

Leading your unholy cabal is the Balor, disguised as Adventurer Save_Ferris. Every night he will venture amongst the mortals and completely and utterly destroy one of them, rendering them so far removed from this plane that not even rewinding time will bring them back to life.

Critically important to your efforts in tracking the Chronomancers down is the Hell Hound, disguised as Appraiser Choxorn. He can detect whether or not another is capable of casting magic – although not foolproof, it will significantly aid in the detection of the foul Time Mages.

Lastly, the Succubus disguised as Noble Winston Hughes has more than enough experience in getting what she wants, and can sway the votes of the mortals with her silver tongue and voluptuous body.

TEAM VICTORY CONDITION – LET THEM BURN
The Demon Faction wins a victory either by amassing enough strength that their total is higher than all other players combined, or by simply reaching Morning 4. The storm will hit then, and all life in Hajii will be distinguished.

I love the game setup and premise.

I hate that we have failed you as players.

Also: Y'all shouldn't have lynched me.

I'm not clear how items were supposed to upgrade. Was it by completing our personal goals?

Good game TFA, thanks for hosting. I really should have made some effort to get my strength up, but every time I approach someone in CFC games I die next phase or get ignored.

Well played Demon scum.

I don't think that's fair, BSmith.

This has to be the first time I've ever lost a game due to the inactivity of a member of the mafia. :(

The danger of the storm was obvious, but I was gambling (and I didn't think it much of one) that we would get the last demon before the last Chronomancer died. (Not to mention that I was bashing them over the heads all game to come forward adn try to make the case as a town faction; why'd no one ever try that?) Save Ferris would never have survived the paladin/lynch/roleblockr/tracker buzzsaw for more than a day or two more.

It's not like I didn't try. One of the main reasons for my lynch was because I was hinting that the chronomancers were not bad. But every time that statement was made the one saying it had tons of negative attention and absolutely no positive attention. Look at poor Mergle. He nailed the situation perfectly but was immediately lynched for it.

Everybody was too hung up on the fact that in the last game we were the scum and hardly anyone took the time to actually look at this game in its own right even though all the clues were there in front of you.

Me and BL getting killed in short order along with Aiolos dropping off the face of the earth leaving Olaf all alone also made it really hard to speak out, although Olaf did try. Unfortunately he was ignored and got lynched for it too.

And let's face it. We had TWO factions out to get us and an unsympathetic town. Coming out and saying "I am a chronomancer here is the real deal" would have been an instant death sentence.

I never would have killed save_ferris. I was hoping to get all the demons and get the town a quick and clean victory, my personal goal aside this seemed like the best way to win it.

I just.

I don't even know what to say.

Thank you to Takhisis and Roman for both supporting my ideas and letting me do my own thing when I needed to, and for pitching in a ton, especially in terms of lore and other angles.

Thank you anyone in the town who trusted my pro-town intentions, despite some good evidence that should have spoken contrary.

Good game demons.

Of course. The chronomancers were keeping everyone else alive.
