[NFP] November Update Video

Going by the past updates, when should we expect the first look?

When it's one civ, it's the Tuesday preceding the release, which means the 17th.

I can't believe they left out Ibn Khaldun. Maybe its just the fact I am a historian of Islam (in Africa) but damn the lack of some of these people is incredibly disappointing.

Well... he's in the video now! I had the opportunity to teach the Muqaddimah some years ago, in a course on social theory. The students absolutely loved it.

When it's one civ, it's the Tuesday preceding the release, which means the 17th.
:nope: It's been the Thursday preceding the release, so it'd be the 12th not the 17th. (e.g. Ethiopia's FL was on Thursday the 16th.)

I also think it will be Thursday, but I could be wrong. If it is Thursday that means I have more time to make a breakdown video on my youtube channel :crazyeye:

If it's Thursday that will be cool!

Good catch on Sinbad. I was going to jokingly suggest Paul Bunyan as the #11 hero because it fits alphabetically plus he'd be by far the most powerful since I assume he'd have 4-6 charges with each charge chopping out every woods/jungle in a city instantly. Or maybe able to chop neutral territory with each charge chopping out everything in a 2 hex radius.
If not Paul Bunyan, how about Jonny Appleseed? He could plant forests eras before the tech allows anyone else to do so! :xtree::xtree::xtree::xtree::xtree::lol:

I am redoing the Maths: at 1:38 we can see the Babylonian are researching Engineering at turn 38 with 2.5 Science per turn, with ~10% completed and 59 turns remaining.

Engineering cost is 200 Science, +10% due to be classical technology while the world era is ancient, so 220 Science. If they need 59 × 2.5 = 147.5 Science to complete it, they should have completed 72.5 Science yet... which is far more than 10%! This is more 33%! Which means they are playing at Quick Speed.
At Quick Speed, the Science cost drops to 220 × 0.75 = 165 Science. If 147.5 Science need to be done to do this, this means 17.5 Science was poured in the Technology which is ~10.6%. They are definitely playing at Quick Speed.

Unlocking Engineering need to unlock the Wheel (80 × 0.75 = 60 Science) and Mining (25 × 0.75 = 18.75 Science). No way they could cumulate 88.75 Science, not including Bronze Working (Encampment) and Mining (we can see a Mine). They seems to be able to complete a Settler because they have a second city in the South.

  • Pottery's cost: 18.75 Science. Done: ~11.25 Science.
  • Animal Husbandry's cost: 18.75 Science. Done?
    • Archery's cost: 37.5 Science. At least 22.5 Science with standard Eureka.
  • Mining's cost: 18.75. It is done (Builder can put a Mine on a Hill).
    • Bronze Working's cost: 60 Science. At least 36 Science with standard Eureka.
In total: 106.25 Science. What they could have: 1.5 × 19 = 28.5, more or less with a city at 1 Population at start, or if they completed a Settlers, dropping the Population.

Theory: Eureka grants the Technology. Which means:
  • No need to have Animal Husbandry be completed for Archery.
  • If so, they only need Mining completed (18.75 Science) and the Pottery one (11.25), so 30 Science. Which seems to fit.
I guess they do have a Eureka grants Technology. Maybe it is limited to the world current era and can't have all technologies with the Eureka. I don't think they are researching Engineering at random: could we have the Walls of Babylon in this game?

You just covered what I wanted to say. Good post.

Heroes look great, but wish there were more options from other cultures, and more female representatives. From Greek myths alone there are options like Atalanta, Circe, Medea, Xenocleia, and so on. Age of Mythology had both Atalanta and Hippolyta. Glad Hua Mulan and Himiko are appearing though.

Also delighted Hammurabi will be making a return but I wonder how they will represent him. Historically he was a lawmaker and conqueror, a backstabber and builder. I suspect given Cyrus’ presence in the game they won’t portray Hammurabi as a backstabber, which is a missed opportunity. He was one of the most backstabby people of all ancient history.

I think the number of female heroes they have is reasonable, but if they added more I'd prefer not to have more Greeks. The game is already swimming in Greeks. I'd suggest someone like Brynhild or Aoife instead.

Yeah, looking at some other screenshots, their science is half what is expected. If they truly are -50% science but full techs for eurekas, that will be a very curious playstyle. In some ways, that makes those great scientists who grant 3 eureka as way more valuable to them than to anyone else. But at the same time, there's less reason to build campuses since they're only half as effective at generating science. What will be curious with them is figuring out what path of research to pursue, to avoid wasted time for the little science you actually gain normally.

Beeline the Great Library and nab what's left of the Ancient Era techs all at once.

And you also free up space from the card + 100% science for the adjacency to the campus. Frequent politics

Haha Anything goes really. I’m no modder, but I bet they could get very creative with this

Doesn't that depend upon Firaxis releasing the code or dll? Lots of people were talking about modifying that vampire out into something more realistic like the other things in that mode, but I have not seen anything yet. These game modes might be hardcoded at the moment. If they do not open up everything for modding, the mode will likely remain as is.

In honor of the upcoming release of Babylon, I share this absurd and 100% false yet absolutely hilarious episode from Herodotus: "[Nitocris] was buried in a tomb set over one of Babylon's gates; its inscription promised money to future Babylonian kings in need, if they opened it. The Persian king Darius I (522- 486) eventually did so, mainly because he wanted to be able to use the gate; all he found inside was a scornful note condemning his greed." :p

AoM also has Sun Wukong as a minor deity for the Chinese faction and Sun Wukong will be playable in Civ VI.

I might agree with maybe limiting one hero per civilization.
But I don't think another civ should recruit the hero if they expire considering you would be the only one housing their relic and epic they left behind. In that instance, to me that would be kind of weird.

They could add the great artist Walt Disney who allows you to recall any hero you please.:scared:
