[NFP] November Update Video

You can see in the event feed on that clip that 2 eurekas were acquired from the kill. So him getting Archery and Bronze Working can easily be explained without having to be related to Babylon's abilities

He's also playing on Quick speed (see the /330 turn counter) so he'd only need like... 5 or 6 science to complete Pottery from where he currently was at it, so if it really is a science version of Gorgo's ability, that 50% CS conversion should be more than enough (Quick is imbalanced like that). So that all makes sense to me. The only question mark on that is that I didn't see any popup showing "+x science" in the same way that Gorgo gets with culture so idk

This gamemode looks really interesting to me. It's the first game mode that really interests me from a thematic point of view. I hope it won't suffer the same fate as Secret Societies which I quickly got tired of because of the extremely poor balance and that it just felt like a bunch of free bonuses that didn't actually add anything to the gameplay.

The only question mark on that is that I didn't see any popup showing "+x science" in the same way that Gorgo gets with culture so idk
Just a question, but: Don't the pop-ups come after each other, i.e. first a pop-up for XP, and then a pop-up for the culture - or do I confuse this with another game? Is it possible that the pop-up for science simply happens at another frame than what is shown in the video?

I'm not 100% sure that Pottery has been studied at 0:37
And the science of killing is boring. As well as Gorgo herself. This is a repetition, I'm sure not
Pottery has been studied and archery discovered. You are right with this. Also weird I didn't notice any campus on Babylon territory.

Super powerful eurikas but with a 50% malus to science would be a very interesting civ imo.

Ofcourse we have no idea if thats the direction they've gone. Bring on the first look!
The civ team tends to really try to avoid traits that have a negative impact (even though I personally think those are the most interesting) so I am very skeptical of ever seeing them.

What are you saying? I'd say, on the contrary, that they weren't brave enough to try it first but they implement them more and more.

You have Mvemba a Nzinga, of course, the original asymetrical guy. Unable to found a religion.
Then you had a load in Gathering Storm: Maoris (unable to recruit great writers), Mali (malus to production), Canada (cannot declare war on city-State nor surprise wars). That's a third of the expansion with malused civs.
And, of the 5 reveals of the NFP, we already have 2 malused civs (Mayan: can't use fresh water bonuses and far away cities are garbage; Gauls: can't build districts near the city-Center and have no inbetween districts adjacency), meaning that, for now, 40% of NFP civs have maluses.

If anything, I see a pattern of more civs with asymetrical designs and maluses tied to their unique abilities. And I think it's great because it forces you to think again about your cities, your strategies and more. Having Babylon forced to gather science in a different way would allow us to have a Scientific Civ that's not boring like Korea.

It is too early to call but I lean towards @Starina theory.
Eureka unlocks the technology but you suffer 50% science income and cannot build campuses. Plus maybe some buff to late game science like instead of steal tech boost steal tech.
BTW Sindbad as a missing 12th hero is a smart guess.

For everyone who says the UB may be a Water Mill replacement, can you please put two pictures side by side so we can see the difference? I don't even know you can see the Water Mill clearly on the map.

Each Hero has a special hidden ability:
Disney Character: At the end of each turn, the Hero will burst into an expository musical number.
I've wanted a musical point-and-click or RPG for years, but that will do. :p

They can definitely still build Campuses; it's shown around the 0:47 mark (and it's confirmed to be a Babylonian city because their unique watermill can be seen).

As for the rest of the ability: I cannot say I would enjoy such an ability and I really hope it's not the case...but there surely is some reason they focused on showing the Techs being acquired after triggering the Eurekas...

just Portugal, which is my guess for the final Civ :-)

Good catch on Sinbad. I was going to jokingly suggest Paul Bunyan as the #11 hero because it fits alphabetically plus he'd be by far the most powerful since I assume he'd have 4-6 charges with each charge chopping out every woods/jungle in a city instantly. Or maybe able to chop neutral territory with each charge chopping out everything in a 2 hex radius.

This part of the video actually does not show if it's a Babylonian city. There are no labels. We don't know anything yet so I can only guess based on what I saw or not. I can be 100% wrong :)

I have to say I'm a little disappointed to have Babylon pigeonholed as a science civ, especially with Hammurabi back as the leader - both because of his own cultural focus and because Hammurabi-led Babylon in Civ IV was a culture civ. Though I had hoped they'd simply use the city state's bonus as part of the civ ability, since that encourages cultural play by rewarding it with science.

The heroes/legends thing seems exactly what they should use alternate game modes for rather than just tweaking existing game systems, and as a Civilopedia completist I always like to see more names added to the character roster.

It would be great if Sun Wukong were flying on a cloud, which would explain his Swift passive ability of ignoring all movement penalties.

Well this looks to be one of my favorite gamemodes. I don't mind at all that they are mythological heroes. It might be a little bit overpowered but I think Hercules should get well 12 charges if we want to be accurate. :mischief:

As for Babylon itself I'm very curious as to what the UU will be. It seems like it might not replace anything though I guess it could replace a Heavy Chariot as that hasn't been spotted yet, correct?

I will say I'm kind of not to impressed with the possibility of a watermill replacement, though at least it's better than ancient walls. I was hoping for a library that could hold great work slots though maybe that could still be part of their ability.

Out of all the civs they announced, Babylon would be one of the last civs I would expect to not being able to build a campus, especially a library. :p

According to the Nintendo eshop leak they said Babylon focuses on science, government, and infrastructure. Government seems to point to some culture bonuses and I'm going to assume that Hammurabi could at least start the game with Code of Laws.
