What does it mean to be a nuclear weapon?
I am wondering because I want to make The Crusades allow the construction of 'holy' units by all civs-so that means templars, etc.
It would then become obsolete much before the manhattan project is available, and when that comes round, everyone can then make nuclear weapons.
Would this idea work at all?
Thanks.:D

Ye Gods! - He wants to build The Holy Hand Grenade Of Antioch!

... But seriously, "being nuclear" means mass destruction (duh), pollution - and being the first to use one pretty much makes you a leper as far as all the other Civs are concerned. IMO it's the last that will make modding multiple-era nuke-equivalents difficult.

Best,

Oz

I don't quite understand the question. If the Manhattan Project is set to allow nuclear weapons no civ will be able to built a medieval nuclear weapon/thing until it is built anyway.

You can flag any unit as a nuclear weapon, including units which cannot bombard (and thus do not act like nukes). If they bombard, they'll act like nukes, if not, they'll just be like normal units.

I use the idea in my ancient Greek scenario to make you require a small wonder before you can build your good units/your special units, depending on civ.

Also remember, if you make the wonder a small wonder, then each civ will have to build it for themselves before they can build the units, although by the sounds of it, you'll be using a great wonder :)

Thanks, that anwered my question.:D

Thats an interesting idea Virote, but doesnt the AI respond badly to you if you have too many of those units? Even though they dont bombard.

Wait! Does it really work like that... because that would be amazing! Also, can the building go obsolete and then have a "second tier" nuclear allowing building? Honestly I could test this myself, but if you already know there would be no need for me to test it...

Very interesting idea georgestow. A great way to impliment the Crusades. If I ever make my own Epic Mod, I'll definitely be stealing that idea!

I like the way you're using it Virote. I could definitely find a use for that too. Its good that making the wonder that allows nukes a small wonder means that the civs have to build it individually.

I never thought of using the nuke function in another way. One of the things I love about Civ 3, and this forum, is that I'm continually being suprised by the new and iteresting ways you can use Civ 3. In many ways its a very limited game, and yet smart people are always coming up with ways to bend the rules, or use something differently and add new features to the game. Bravo to you both!

I'm not sure if it can go obsolete or not... Sounds like something which needs testing!

QFT. I was waiting to see if somebody knew.

Knowledge - no. But having worked enough with the game, I think I have a general "feel" for their approach to design and coding. Given the Manhattan Project's use and purpose in the game, I would suspect (and, trust me, I'd love to be wrong) that there's a hard-coded event switch that gets thrown when the MP is built.

I just did. Unfortunately Oz is correct, nukes can still be built after the Project is rendered obsolete. Still, this is a great idea for allowing special units w/o bombard...
Damn. I really wanted this to work.

Great Idea Virote! :goodjob::clap:

hm...I have never tried what will happen, if you give a nuclear weapon a defensive bombard range of zero.
