It is too bad that Barbatos had to be removed from the mod simply because he had a propensity to spawn near the players and wipe them out in his awesome fashion. This guy was cool dude, he even ended up sometimes running his own little barbarian kingdom protected by his nasty summons.

How about if he was tucked away somewhere and would not wake up until someone ran into him OR the AC hit a certain level?

I'd rather just see him like acheron, buildable by barbarians, perhaps with Necromancy tech prereq.

Oh yeah that is what I am saying (now anyway!)

EDIT: is this something I could do with XML? If it is i'd try it out myself.

I never understood why Barbatos was removed in the first place. Anytime I ever saw him he was planted on the Broken Sepulcher and never moved. The Barbarian hero units are fairly weak now, IMO. Orthus seems to be killed within 10 turns of spawning and Tum Tum isn't anyone to worry about. I rarely see any of the other units, like Magalard, causing havoc.

Would be nice to have Barbatos back and some sort of option for improving the spawn chances for some of the rarer units. Does Barbarian World affect this at all?

I think Orthus could use a buff, but it's tricky... Maybe a large defensive bonus to make him harder to kill? Increasing his offensive power by very much would make him too much of a civ killer... Right now he's just right in terms of weak civs struggling but ultimately fending him off, but any player or strong AI civ sees Orthus and thinks, "sweet, free axe!"

Exactly! As soon as he spawns I try and hunt him down as opposed to fearing for my civs survival from behind the palisade. I think a defensive attack bonus would do wonders.

If you miss Barbatos, you might like my Wild Mana mod..... Any mana that starts off as Death Mana has a 1 in 3 chance of spawning a demon Lich who is unable to move. Can be rather fun if you start near some mana now..... :p

Yah I guess that'll have to do for now:)

I'd disagree with making orthus stronger, personally. He's hard enough as is, and can be quite a problem.

Rather than stronger, perhaps more numerous. I mean, he's the barbarian king, so why does he wander around alone? Where is his army.

He'd be challenging if he brought an assortment of orcish warriors and goblins with him. Perhaps even, he could be given the ability to recruit an army for free, from barbarians he meets, and barbarian cities he finds. So that rather than attacking the first nation he comes across, he'd spend 50 turns building an army, and both you and him would be more prepared when he shows up. Would make for a fun battle.

As he is, orthus is strong, but that just means you need to spam more warriors to defeat him. I'd much rather fight off a proper orcish army, with my own proper army. Warrior spam is boring.

In my version, Orthus spawns Axemen from Combat. The Barbs also gain the Raiders trait when he spawns, and loose it when he dies. (The 4 Horsemen have similar bonuses.)

Screw Orthos, he has been discussed in many a thread regarding his abilities.

What should BARBATOS be in the game?

I don't see why a single Barbatos was removed but a mountain pass with 3(!) gargoyles was added.

I don't think Barbatos himself was ever the problem - just the infinite Strength 9 summons. That being said - seeing as Barbarian Liches have been slapped with the stick of nerfing (they spam groups of skeletons rather than wraiths now), he might be feasible again.

Also he usually sat in his place while gargoyles go on rampage :). I think with weaker summons he should be just fine. Another possibility: make his summons as strong but unable to attack cities. Civ-slaying problem is solved.

Barbatos need to be brought back. Don't care how, I miss him. Also, the sailors dirge! I loved the thing. But thats getting off topic. :p

I say Barbatos should be brought back, built in a city like Archos is (but a different city), and he should sit there defending it like Archos does, with a "Lich's Treasure" building like the dragons horde.

Yeah sounds like the spawning idea is kinda popular. *shakes his fist at WarKirby*

:)

we must 'necro' Barbatos
