Off-Topic posts should not count toward your post total and in fact, it would be best if any such post numbers were immediately removed from current post counts. I realize this would mean that certain posters would instantly go into negative post count territory, and that that would probably cause the server to crash for the first few days, but some careful scripting could handle that. Then we'd really get to see who posts on civ topics. ;)

i also think that OT Forum posts shouldn't count..

You should have made a poll for this.

I'm at a loss as to why anyone cares about post counts anyway ...

I dont see the point, post count does´nt matter after you reached the 300.

I have seen some very informed posts from people with very low post counts, and some with high post counts have never posted informed or responsible posts.

Despite this I feel people are often judged on their post count, normally at the low post count end. Maybe we should scrap post counts all together, but I am sure that issue has been through the mangle enough times already...

Since we are likely to keep post counts, why not stop the OT posts counting? Lots of people hang out mostly in OT with very little participation in the other game related fora. Since post count is used by people to judge others (fact), why allow OT posts to count at all? These posts show no commitment to any of the games being discussed, and as such mislead others when mostly OT posters come in to the other fora.

Just my 2 cents, I know a lot of people disagree, and that's fine. :)

Well then we'll start with OT, then move to H&J, Sports ... the entire Colosseum I guess. Then the other games forums will be targetted next, I mean this is a site about Civ right, so those posts shouldn't count either.

What this says, in essence, is that some forums are more important than others. "Don't listen to Dralix, he's not a real CFCer, he just rambles in the OT." To me, that sounds like some form of elitism, I don't think that it is welcome here.

I agree. I'm sure many, like me, came to CFC for Civ information, but then migrated to OT as the Civ3 thread became less useful. I don't play the game much any more, but I'm still a contributor to the site.

'Sides, most of my post count comes from OT. :p

I would agree with that assessment, if it weren't for the fact that we already have a forum in which posts do not contribute to p/c - the Civ3 demogame RPG forum.

Dralix, if you re-read my post you will see that I first suggest not having post count at all...

The idea behind what I say is that some high post count posters (mentioning no names ;) ) post in civ3 and newbies immediately think 'hey, here's someone who has played lots and discussed ideas, they must know what they are talking about'. Since this does happen, why not have the post count not reflect the fact that they post 40 posts a day in OT, and have only 100 or 200 posts in the civ3 fora?

FWIW, I would include the whole colosseum too, but again, this is just my view, I understand that people wouldn't go for it as it would upset too many people.

Regarding the other TBS fora, these games are akin to civ3 where we get nearly all of the newbies, and so posts in those fora are much more relevant to experience in civ3 than the OT and coloseum posters.

For someone who doesn't care about post counts you do seem to care a lot about losing yours...

I don't have to re-read, I saw that the first time, and I agree completely.

Such is the problem with (1) displaying post counts, and (2) people rating the worthiness of the information on the post count. Just because someone posts 40 posts per day in OT does not, in and of itself, make the person any less important or knowledgeable.

So someone who posts 40 posts per day in the "All Other Games" forum about Minesweeper or Diablo is more worthy of respect than someone who makes 40 posts per day in OT about current events, science, philosophy, religion and politics?

I don't give a damn about my post count, and I don't know how you ever got the impression that I do from my post. What I do care about is a community where the people who post in one forum are better than the people who post in another.

Then what about those excellent Civ2 posters, but whom are new to Civ3 yet? Do you intend to discount their PC as well, since well, the same reasoning works with those posters with high Civ2 posts but neigh Civ3 ones?

Perhaps it's time for CFC to evolve... into a higher form of existense. :crazyeye:

I don't care about postcount. But i think or it should count everywhere ,or it should count nowwhere.

If we would really need a measurement of how good poster's are on this site ,maybe we should give them a votable rating ,like some thread's have. But i know some poster's that would get a very low rating ,not because they are that bad ,but because they are hated by a small number of people.Moderator's for ex. could get bad rating's from everyone that they ever banned ,even if the moderator did the right thing.

I don't think ,etherway ,that people care much though. If you respect other people on this forum ,people will respect you to and you may make some good friends. On the other hand ,if you persist on being a complete jackas$ ,people would eventually start to dislike you.

All in al ,i liked the time way back a year ago when TF decided to hide the postcount.

Lets face it, when judging the worth of a post all that matters ifs the content. Not who said it or how many posts they have.

Nothing else matters.

Over time, you can tell who knows what they are talking about and who doesnt. Its a valuable life skill to acquire.

Thank you for so succinctly expressing my views for me. :D

It's all a pissing contest, IMO.

As long as I moderate, the Off Topic won't be so penalized.

This isn't Apolyton, you want to discriminate against posters, go do it there, HERE, we value what people say.

Good....I post a lot in OT.
But i play also civ3 and i know civ2 from my head...Its just civ3 threads are mostly:questions and little facts...
I cant respond to most of those....

most of my posts are from OT forums, thats because many of the topics there are very interesting and you cant resist to enter in the discussion.
but I think the number of posts is irrelevant, if I have 1000 that doesnt make me more important than someone who have 10...
I really dont care. and you shouldnt either
