Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

I'm growing more and more convinced that during the development of Civ7, developers will tend to limit the next iteration, which will be kind of a spin off, to the ancient eras. The reasons to this are that a lot of the discussions on the Ideas & Suggestions sub-forum turn around ancient era, the idea in my signature included.

So I propose a title for that possible game : Ancient Civilization : Homo Sapiens.

That connection you're making requires such a leap of faith it reminds me of Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade :p

I'm not a fan of that title either. You're forgetting the "Sid Meier's". So it would be Sid Meier's Ancient Civilization: Homo Sapiens, which is a mouthful. Subtitles are typically used for expansions. Homo Sapiens also fulfils no purpose and provides no relevant information. Most Civ titles are straight to the point. I think these are simpler:

Sid Meier's Cradle of Civilization
Sid Meier's Civilization: Origins
Sid Meier's Civilization: Genesis

But I don't see any reason to think this is more or less likely than any other suggestion that is not simply Civ 7.

Dawn of Civilization.

I tried it, before and after the "performance" patches, it was horrilble on my 2010 computer, ugly (while Civ6 is pretty neat) with no textures, putting 100 years to load, 100 years for the AI turn, I think the last time I tried it was even worse than the first time. If anything, the devs are really making fun of old computers owners for their own pleasure. And AFAIK there isn't a PS5 version which I could buy.

@AntSou I choosed "Homo Sapiens" mainly because it wasn't already taken in the 4X genre. (I think there's a game called 'Homo Sapiens' but it not nearly a 4X and got unnoticed) So it would be a way to 'placeholder' it. Obviously, one should make it so we start at the beginning of the Species, in 40000 BC or something ? We could then simulate the colonization of Homo Sapiens of all the globe, with other species as neighbours. Those lasts could act as barbarians and goody huts, disappearing slowly without too much controversy. But I agree it wouldn't be as thrilling as controlling a civilization, be it of hunter-gatherers, from prehistory to say, antiquity or classical era...
In my head, in a civ "prequel" the big space project so to speak would be the founding of the first city.

I must thank both Solver and Dale who tried their best, in this forum, to help me work my performance issues with Old World, and succeeded.
My computer dates from 2010 but I've changed HDD in 2012, moved the OS to SSD in 2016, added some RAM and changed screen in 2016, changed the graphical card in 2019. I'd say it's a vigorous grandpa that can handle OW well on reasonable map sizes and if I don't take too much time to win or loose :D

Ok, so 8 months and 70 pages in, and still not a single little bit of new info?

Nope. And honestly, don't expect an inkling until next spring.

I'll put it this way. You try a game that's not intended to work on your computer (a top of the line gaming PC from 2010 is well below the minimum requirements) Moderator Action: Snip --NZ
This is why I told Dale, "I haven't yet invested in Old World, yet, sadly, and probably won't until I invest in a new computer," when asking him something about how it worked. Some people don't seem to have that acceptance of their own machine's limits.

During the recent live streams they were using a community mod for the host to spectate the game. At least, I think they were but they didn't mention how they were spectating. I wonder if they will put any effort into features for streaming and online tournaments in Civ7.

The streaming world has certainly changed a lot since civ 6 was released. Definitely wouldn't surprise to see a little more friendliness and support for that.

I don’t see any reason to believe this is the case whatsoever…your argument is that because people are discussing early-game content on the niche ideas forum, the devs are being compelled to make a spinoff instead? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

What about playing "Old World" instead for a while ;)?

The buzz on that is it's basically a war game where you build up a big army and then fight. Not interesting to me.

Of course this was awhile back, maybe they've updated it? Or is it still a slog to see who can build the biggest army?

What? You can definitely be a builder.

I also enjoy fighting more in Old World than in Civ6.

Looking forward to Civ7's army mechanics being revealed. I'm assuming there's been no real news...

Kind of but also not really. The big difference between OW and Civ6 is that you need an army in OW even if you don't intended to fight the AI because a) you need an army to clear trial sites to get access to more city sites and (this is the important one) b) you can't actually hold off the AI in a war with a few well places units. Plus, the AI will attack you if you are weak so that's another reason to need an army. You need to build an army but you don't need to really use it after the early game but you don't like having to have an army then you still probably won't like OW.
