Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

I hope Ed is well-compensated. They've been tapping his brain for over a decade now.

And just as to add on the potato and VII speculation, Potato has done sponsored early videos, including the pre launch series for GS.
also, just recently for AoW4

I was cautiously getting into hype mode, but these two comments pushed me over the line. :woohoo:

Plot twist: the "next chapter" is a full conversion mod in a fantasy or sci-fi setting, sold as DLC for Civ 6 rather than as a separate entry. Meanwhile Civ 7 is still years away. :p

That would explain both the hidden video and the hidden DLC on steamdb. :shifty:
---

Hidden Videos as of right now:

What's new to Civ? -> 3 videos. That's the Great Builders Meet the Rulers and First Look. Don't know what the third one might be.

Official Trailers | Civilization VI - 1 Video.
1. If it were a Civ 7 trailer, why would it be within a Civ 6 playlist? Because it could just be easier to organise it that way, then move it to its own playlist later. Or keep it in the same playlist and just rename the playlist to "Official Trailers".
2. The short announcement trailer for Civ 6 is not within the playlist for Civ 6 Official trailers. Why would Civ 7's be? Meh... :dunno:

Civilization Beyond Earth: Rising Tide - 3 hidden videos
I'm fairly confident these hidden videos have always been there, so it's meaningless. But could someone please confirm?
If the plot twist involves a Fall from Heaven full conversion mod with direct involvement from Kael somehow, I wouldn't be too upset. 😁

You are definitely right. I saw now that he was from Ireland. Does this mean we will see Ireland in Vanilla? :groucho:

Maybe it's confirmation that we'll at least get potatoes as a resource? :mischief:
Also, I feel stupid for not realizing he's Irish until now. The name makes sense though. :o

However, I have no evidence that he really lives in Ireland.

I have actually never heard of Potato McWhiskey before, so I'm surprised he's THAT important streamer

He’s pretty big online.

Yeah, like he's big enough that if they're at all starting to get a playable state, they would probably invite him in to actually play test the new version, give his feedback on certain mechanisms, etc... Like as a super-beta tester giving feedback. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if that's what he was there for.

That's not to say that things are necessarily close. I know Cities Skylines 2 just announced for release this year, and Biffa who would probably be a similar level for that game was talking about seeing an advance version of it last summer. So if Civ followed a similar timeline, arguably it could still be 6-7 months before an announcement, and still yet another 4-8 months before release. I can't imagine it would be longer than that at an absolute maximum, if this was mostly the reason Potato was visiting their offices.

Here goes Boris Out On A Limb again . . .

April will see first official announcement, possibly a visual teaser, of Civ VII.

April to October is six months, a nice pre-game Run Up of bits to entice the Great Unwashed (Us Great Unwashed) into the new game.

Release of Civ VII in October 2023.

EVERY Civilization game in the main stream of titles (Civ to Civ VI) has released in September or October except Civilization II (February 1996 release), and 6 months is about the right length for a Full Bore advertising campaign.

The fact that they are striving to wrap up the current Leader Pass by April only confirms this timeline to me. After this Pass, stick a fork in Civ VI, because it is Done.

Yes, I'd buy that. I was thinking either they announce both games at the same time or this idea of a main engine and these DLC make it different games/skins.

I'm not sure how this would be measured, but I would casually refer to him as the "most watched" Civ VI Youtube streamer. Probably Twitch as well.

(just to make it clear, I wasn't expressing doubt or cold skepticism, I was genuinely curious, since at first I had no idea WTH is "potato" in this context and was looking for literal images of literal potatoes being some sort of code for civ7 :p )
(for a second I have even thought Potato is some endearing term for Ed Beach)

I don't want to do too much reading into the fact that Firaxis had Potato, probably the most popular CivStreamer, on for their livestream.

But since we have nothing else to go on for Civ7 hype...

YAY! Taking this as confirmation that Civ7 Vanilla will include Ireland as led by Grace O'Malley! Praise be!
