Official System Requirements

Hi guys,

I have just joined in preparation for the new civ. IV has sucked many hours from me that would have otherwise been wasted on things like the girlfriend, essays and general productive activity.

Now this is pretty hopeful but does anyone know if my MacBook Pro 13" that I bought earlier this year be able to handle this game if I put it on via boot camp. I don't mind if I can see only 20 tiles at a time. I can't afford a new pc or part-ex for a better MacBook.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Jon

If it has a Geforce 320m, then it should be fine.

If you bought it earlier this year then it will probably have the same graphics card as mine, so you'll have to see like me :(

Well it is a 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram and has GeForce 9400m.

I have searched high and low and cannot find an answer.

Thanks for your opinions.

Same as my computer only significantly worse CPU for some reason (assumption would be it was a refurb). Best thing we can do is wait until the demo. I'm quite hopeful it will run.

Looks like this is the place to ask if my specs are good enough for the min:

Code:
CPU Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
Graphics Card GeForce GTS 160M
Ram	2 Gbs
Hard Disk Space	150 Gbs
Direct X 9
I'm not too hopeful about that graphic card, but until I know for sure there's a chance, right?

:scared:

Should be about halfway between min and recommended. That GTS 160M is pretty good for a mobile chip. Could perhaps use another GB of RAM, but will work fine as it is :)

That's very refreshing to hear. My plan was to wait and try the demo, but it sounds like you would say I'm safe to pre-order, right?

^^

If you already have a decent dual core system, wait until next year for Sandy Bridge before considering a Quad.

Yes I will probably wait. When in 2011? Spring or Summer release?

Guys

Can anyone let me know if an nvidia Geforce 8400m GT grapgics card is going to let memeet the min requirements?

cheers

Phil

Judging by the anxious queries here at CFC, if your computer will not be able to run it, about 80% of all Civ5 buyers won't get it to work either. In which case you all should sue 2K, and will probably be successful with the lawsuit

The Geforce 160m is a great GPU:

Why dont people just type their card into google and check what this website says?

Yes you are. Its funny that people can actually have a good mobile GPU, and not even be aware of it.

ladies and Gents,
Two questions
1. I have searched for the specs for Greg system used for the live stream and cannot find, can someone kindly post them for me.
2. I have a 775 socket mobo, with a max of 4 gig ram. The SRT civ test reads 2.47 gigs of ram. I would like a new system to run civ5 with a cool new i5 Quad core, but money is an issue. So my question is, should I upgrade my current processor to a quad core, or should I just pony up and get a new machine? I only really upgrade whenever a new CIV comes out as this is the only Computer game I play.

What do you think the price range will be, or will pc's generally stay where they are at?

Im hoping they will be released at the same current prices as the I7 range, and drive the price of the I7 970 down so I can get one for a lot less.

I have a really good motherboard and dont want to change it, and I dont think there will be much difference between an I7 spec and sandt bridge.

If you can wait until March do so

The price cap on the i7 series is $999 so the prices will be forced down

This "people" did exactly before posting here. My first search attempt found this great information:

Code:
Product NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150M
Stream Processors 8 8
Core Clock (MHz) 580 530
Shader Clock (MHz) 1450 1300
Memory Clock (MHz) 700 700
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 11.2 11.2
Processing Power GFLOPs
(billion ops/sec) 34.8 31.2
PureVideo HD Yes Yes
Max Memory Size (MB) 256 256
Memory Interface 64-bit 64-bit
Bus Interface PCI-Express x16 PCI-Express
Display Interfaces DP, VGA, DVI, LVDS, HDMI VGA, DVI, LVDS, HDMI
Max Independent Displays 2 2
Max Digital Display Support 1920 x 1200 1680 x 1050
Max Analog Display Support 2048 x 1536 1600 x 1200
Max Power & Cooling 12W – Passive/Active 10W – Passive/Active
But none of that meant a lick to me, since the card listed in the requirements didn't come with its specs. So I did some more searching and found game-debate.com. I registered there, because they claimed they would be able to evaluate if my comp could play the game. Their system said my setup was not sufficient to meet the recommended requirements, but they made no comment about the minimum. So I came here to get some advice from people who I figured would know what they were talking about.

I appreciate the nice information everyone provided. Do remember that not all of us are gamers. I waited 2 years to play Civ4 because I can't fathom upgrading a computer for a game. Shoot, the only reason I'm even able to play this is because my work laptop that came as part of my new job is apparently an okay gaming machine. Not that I'd know, of course. I use it for work.

And now Civ5.

@Civ King,
Thanks for the advice, I got carried away and am going to order an i5 750, 4 gig ram, hd 5550 512 ram. Will this be an adequate machine?
