OFW1 Science and Industry

I have played my turns in my other sg and will play my turns tomorrow after I get off work, Sorry for the delay

Just so ya know, I am playing my turns today. I have finished 3 turns and all is going fine, Pasargadae is now at 106cpt, so the game is now within 100 turns of 20K(BTW, do either of you know how to check for how close you come to Domination?). I have to go do a couple things then I will come back and post turnlog and save.
My report won't be very detailed but the basics will be there.

Sound good?

Sounds fine.

I gather that MapStat would tell us exactly how close we are to domination, but I don't really know what MapStat is. Have you used it, mad-bax?

Here are my turns

Preturn. Fix Bushire and a few other MM'a
notice that Greece and Carthage have an MPP I wanna keep Greece and some others honest cause I don't feel like going to war, so..

And this way I can work on military.

I sign an ROP with Babylon we get WM and 10 gold(all they had)
Sign an ROP with Greece, we give WM and we get WM, 8gpt and 9 gold. Give Carthage our WM for WM and 2gpt. I trade Ivory to Russia for 109 gold and 28gpt. Trade WM to Ottomans for 28 gold and WM, same deal with America. Mongols give WM and 29 gold for WM, hurry barracks in Viroconium and Issus.

1.1450AD Radio learned research Steel 4 turns 70%. joined a few workers to Chengdu. lost our incense again.

Hurry Factory in Dariush Kabir.

6. 1475AD Battlefield Medicine built in Pasargadae, start Stock Exchange. We just broke 10,000 culture here!
Palace Expansion. Science to 50%

7. 1480AD Troop movements is all, I am using Pi Ramses as a pickup point for Greece and moving troops up next to Rome.

8. 1485AD Same as last turn.

9. 1490AD Greece and Rome sign an MPP, so if we go to war with one, we gotta do both and Crthage is also in an Mpp with Greece.
Pasargadae finishes Stock Exchange, Start Ironclad(too early to prebuild for UN for a few more turns)
Refining Learned--research Combustion Science to 70% 4 turns.

10. 1495AD The Greeks want an MPP with us, I say no!

Thats pretty much it, our military is getting bigger and we are at 10,436 culture in Pasargade at 107CPT. That is less than 90 turns!

here is the

Save

Got it. I haven't looked at the save, but more steady progress towards victory, clearly.

I think your trade with the Americans was good OFW. I doubt we will ever get to them from a war perspective, and giving them steam will help us I think. It is better that the AI are all at a similar power rating since wars between them will be more destructive with neither getting the upper hand. I think you got those luxes cheap.

We really do need to sort out the Russians now though. I think this should be our mission. Though in truth there is no way the AI are going to get to Space before we get to 20K.

CHICKEN KIEV

1495 (0): I was hoping to at least dispose of the Mongols on this round, but they have an MPP with the Babylonians, so the time isn't right.

Just to complete our picture of the diplomatic situation, I establish embassies with the Carthaginians, the Romans, and the Americans. Carthage is at 12 spt (and doesn't have a factory), Rome at 16. Washington is at 6 spt :D, yet the Americans have heroically built eight city improvements there, not counting the palace.

I boost Pasargadae up to size twenty with worker merges. (I continue merging our core cities up to their maximum useful sizes, at which they're working every available tile, throughout the round, using native workers only).

We get two palace extensions, and I believe the palace is finished.

1500 (1): I begin mining irrigated grasslands near cities which have reached their maximum useful size. (This process too continues throughout the round.)

1505 (2): I get some infantry into Pyongsang and Ningpo.

River Palace now produces 100 shields per turn.

The Russians demand Steel, I refuse, and we're at war. The only attack which follows is against Dakyanus, on the first eastern island, and we repel it easily.

We complete Combustion and start work on Mass Production. We can now do four-turn research at 60%.

1510 (3): I give the Ottomans Electricity to join in the war against the Russians, just as a way of keeping the Russians busy until we have some tanks. Of course this may make it harder for us to end the war honourably, but I don't expect our war weariness to build up much until we invade the Russian mainland--and in truth, our reputation doesn't matter much at this point anyway. Since we're certainly going to take some Russian cities, the question of an exploitative phony war doesn't arise.

A Russian warrior commits suicide attacking a rifleman in Bampur. :rotfl:

Shiraz completes an army, which I'll leave empty for the moment.

1515 (4): I let our expensive deal for dyes and spices with the Carthaginians expire, though I'll probably have to trade for at least one of them again soon.

1520 (5): We take Kharkov after an extensive bombardment, and we're finally undisputed masters of our home island. Despite the bombardment we lose two cavalry in defeating the garrison of two infantry, since it's a hill town.

I get the last of our empty cities garrisoned. I think this may reduce the chance that other civs will join Russia's war against us, since the AI views empty cities as a sign of vulnerability.

1525 (6): We take Vologda, on the second eastern island, with a mixed force shipped over from Buto. The garrison consists of a rifleman and two spearmen, and we suffer no losses.

An oil source migrates from one spot in our empire (Ghulaman) to another (Erdenet).

We abandon Kharkov and found Meshed on an adjacent tile.

We discover Mass Production and start work on Motorized Transport.

1530 (7): Three cossacks and a knight attack Dakyanus, but we now have six infantry in the town and we defeat the assault without loss.

1535 (8): I send saltpetre and 48 gpt to the Carthaginians for spices.

1540 (9): The slow buildup for the invasion of Russia continues. We now have a lot of artillery, cavalry, and infantry concentrated around Persepolis, with transports to carry it all in Meshed, but it still makes sense to wait until we have some tanks.

Shiraz completes another army, and we get the Pentagon message.

1545 (10): Russian ironclads are blocking both of the coastal tiles adjacent to Dakyanus, so luxuries aren't getting through, and the people of the town are unhappy. The AI isn't usually this bright. :p

THE FUTURE:

Pasargadae has begun the palace prebuild for the UN. If we see when we reach the Modern Age that the prebuild is too far along, we can use the trick of switching the city to the Pentagon for a moment to reduce the accumulated shields to 400.

The forces intended for the invasion of Russia are concentrated in and around Persepolis, with some extra infantry in Meshed. Note the two empty armies in Persepolis.

The ship chain between our homeland and Egypt now runs from Sidon to Thebes, with one stop in mid-ocean.

We have four cavalry in Atlay on the small northern island, so if we ever return to war with the Romans and Mongols, the forces to take their cities on the island are in place.

All our cities building infantry can switch to tanks as soon as we get Motorized Transportation, of course.

Our semi-employed slave labourers are in plain sight, not in cities, though most are fortified.

We still haven't had the first round of war weariness. Evidently there's a lot to be said for not losing cities.

Guys, I did start to play this last night, but I didn't even finish 1 turn. I haven't been very well (just a bad cold now the kids are back at school). So I don't feel like playing ATM and wouldn't do the game justice anyway. So if it's OK I'd like to skip this one turn.

I am sorry. :(

Are ya sure, I could play tonight or tomorrow, but I would not be able to play again until next Wednesday.

Okay, I'll play either tonight or tomorrow. Hope ya feel well soon!

No problem, mad-bax. I hope things improve for you soon.

Here ya go, these turns were sorta fun except for my scew ups:o

Preturn everything fine(like they wouldn't be)

IBT Russian infantry and Ironclads destroy improvemnets around Dukyanus, they also drop off 1 cavalry.

1. 1550AD Renew ROP with Babylon and get 6gpt.
Motorized Transportation learned, research Flight(70% 4 turns)
Start Serious tank building and switch all infantry builds to Tanks.
Renew ROP with Greece and get 9gpt.
Sign a trade Embargo against the Russians with America, Carthage and the Ottomans.
Since no one really likes us anyway, I decide to sign a MA with Carthage against Russia, by giving them oil.

IBT More improvements destroyed at Dukyanus.

2. 1555AD The coal by greece runs out. Troop movements.

IBT Again Dukyanus improvements destroyed and I believe they destroyed a building there also(I did not write it down and cannot remember which building)

3. 1560AD Sink Russian Galleon and 2 Ironclads by Dukyanus, we lose 1 Ironclad.

IBT a knight attacks Dukyanus and dies, more improvements destroyed.

4. 1565AD Sank another Russian Galleon(Ithink there were troops on both of those) and we sink another Ironclad.
I decide we could use some more money coming in so, I trade Atomic Theory to Greece forEspionage, Communism, WM, 1468 gold and 163gpt. I then trade Atomic Theory and Ivory to Carthage for Dyes, WM and 134gpt.

IBT A Galleon of ours I was sending in for upgrade is attacked and sunk by an Ironclad(He is down to 1 hp though)
and we enter the Modern Age!

5. 1570AD Flight Discovered, Fission is our free tech, I research Computers(70% 6 turns)
Sink another Russian Ironclad. Change Pasargadae to the UN-8 turns. Sink another Russian Galleon.
We have landed troops on the Russian mainland.
and I still don't really see any or much war weariness.

IBT lost Gems and Incense.

6. 1575AD I am really being a warmonger, so I pull America into the war. We sign MA against russia with America , we get Gems and Incense and we give Communism and electricity, WM and 135 gold.
Okay, here is where I was getting a little cocky, we lose a transport:mad: (yes I had troops on it) I am really sorry guys:(
Russia and Otto sign peace treaty.
Now we drag Greece into this war for an MA, we give Ivory and get 13gpt.
Renew Ivory deal with Babylon for 19gpt
Sink a Russian destroyer.
Attack sverdlosk with Artillary, destroy some city improvements and kill 5 citizens.
Sink 2 more Ironclads.

more to follow!

Okay, to continue.

IBT We sink an Ironclad and well, my fault, we lose another Transport:o

7. 1580AD 1 more Russian ironclad goes down, 2nd artillary bombing of Sverdlosk. They are beatin down to 1 pop, cavalry attcks and takes the city, I keep it just to have a city on this continent, but if I attack any more cities, I will burn them down(I don't wanna win by domination).
Sink 1 more Ironclad.
Attack small russian citynamed "Thaenae" on our NW Island, 1 attack and we win and burn it down.
I notice the only MPP still going is between Greece and Rome.

IBT we lose a cavalry to a Russian Infant.

8. 1585AD Pillage Iron on russian mainland, and also still moving troops over and around.
on the Island of Dukyanus, things are under control, I am now pillaging any and all there improvements.
Sign trade Embargo against Russia with Greece.
Trade Horses to Ottomans for 9gpt.

IBT Lose 3 Cavalry near Minsk. Greek troops are moving on Russia.

9. 1590AD Lose a Battleship to a Russian destroyer, then sink it with 1 of our destroyers.
Settle "New Tarsus" in the middle of 3 Russian citys(Moscow, Sevastpol and Minsk).
Start Artillary fire on Sevastpol
Lose 4 cavalry and 1 promoted to Elite in New Tarsus area.

10. 1595AD at the beginning of this turn Our people were celebrating, that ends and some hard WW kicks in.
Attack Grozny with Elite night(he dies)(I had been bombarding this city with destroyers and Battleship)
Then attack with Elite Cavalry and win,... Burn Grozny down.

Well that is it.

NP, I did not sign peace, but I think we should real soon!, I did check before I saved and we could get 367 gold, WM and 7gpt for peace with Russia.
I did have another thought though. What if we switched governments again right after we finish the UN? Just a thought.

The UN will be done in 3 turns(I don't think anyone needs to be reminded not to put it to a vote:crazyeye: )

I was thinking we should build Manhatan Project and SETI in Pasargadae if possible.

On the Culture20K victory. We have 12586 culture and 109cpt.
However, I was doing some figuring during these turns and well, we are on pace to win a 100K before the 20K would win,
Right now we have 58273 culture and it is just over 700 cpt.
We will have to keep an eye on this and maybe start selling off Temples in our older cities, or if we have any colosseums!?

The Lux slider is currently at 20% and science at 50% with Computers in 1 turn.

I did not start the Pentagon or Intelligence Agency, cause I was not sure if we just wanted to plug them in Pasargadae when we get a chance.

Well, thats it for me, Good luck NP

The Save

Very alert! :goodjob: Since I never normally play on large maps, the 100K danger hadn't occurred to me.

Mad-bax, aren't you conducting that mathematical exercise in hitting 20K with two cities simultaneously? This seems to be your sort of problem. Your opinions?

Yes, that could have been embarrassing. I will feed the numbers into Apollo and the 20K spreadsheet and get back to you.

For now I would say that we should reduce our rate of culture accumulation by selling libraries in fringe towns that have undergone 1 cultural expansion, and maybe change to a conquest type "slash and burn" strategy in future wars, keeping only those cities that give us a lux or resource, or are important strategically for raxes and eventually airports.

I'll give you the mumbers tomorrow. There is no immediate problem. I wouldn't worry about it on your turn NP.
