OFW1 Science and Industry

Oh, Definately not an Immediate worry or concern, I just kind of figured out that at the current rate that we would get 100K about 10 turns Quicker than the 20K. However, We still have things to build in Pasargadae, and like mad Bax said, we can sell off things, so no immediate concerns!

RUSSIAN ROULETTE

1595 (0): OFW, you're right--this is definitely second-level war weariness. I'll just damage the Russians as badly as I can in one turn and then make peace. The way you've set things up, fortunately, that's going to be quite a lot of damage.

Looking at the histograph, I notice that we don't have twice as much culture as the Greeks; but since we're accumulating it so much faster than they are, this doesn't mean that we can be complacent about the 100K problem. I sell 24 libraries (two of which are more than a thousand years old) in corrupt cities. (Then during my round I sell another six.)

I rush a harbour in Sverdlovsk, so that we'll be able to build railoads right up to the front in Russia next turn.

We discover Computers and begin research on Miniaturization.

The Russians land a horseman next to Ulaangom. :D

And:

CIVIIIAGENCY.JPG

1600 (1): We bombard Sevastopol down to size twelve, then take it (held by three infantry) without loss. We keep the city temporarily to gain access to St. Petersburg, then abandon it later in the turn.

We raze Minsk (held by three inf), losing one tank.

We raze Moscow (held by three inf and one guerrilla) after bombardment, losing two tanks.

We raze St. Petersburg (held by three inf), losing one tank.

To consolidate our position in southern Russia, and in particular to control the wines, we found Turbat (on the site of St.Petersburg) and Tabas (one square from the site of Minsk).

We make peace with the Russians, gaining 205 gold, their WM, and Uralsk, which is on that northern island otherwise controlled by the Americans. (I then give Uralsk to the Americans.) This is a blatant stab of the Americans, Carthaginians, and Greeks, with whom we have anti-Russian alliances; but given the hammering we've administered to the Russians, I'm not concerned that it's exploitative.

1605 (2): The Mongols form an MPP with the Americans, so I again postpone my plans to eliminate them. The point is hardly that the Americans are all that formidable, but I don't want to get caught up in the whole MPP web before our war weariness has dissipated.

And:

CIVIIIUNITED.JPG

1610 (3) - 1630 (7): Peace, worker merges, upgrades, and lumberjacking. The only real news (in 1615):

CIVIIIPENT.JPG

Yes, that screenshot is from another game. ;) We built the Pentagon in River Palace.

1635 (8): We discover Miniaturization and begin researching Genetics, just to get access to the last Wonders.

I allow our deal for Carthaginian spices to expire, as we're now getting gems and wines from southern Russia.

The Greeks drive the Russians completely off Dakyanus Island.

1640 (9): We get incense from the Americans for Scientific Method, wines, ivory, and 920 gold.

1645 (10):

The harrowing of Russia (1600 AD):

THE FUTURE:

Right now we have 64969 overall cultural points, increasing at 675 cpt, and 13728 cultural points in Pasargadae, increasing at 117 cpt. At these rates we'd hit 100K in 52 turns and 20K in 53 and a half. So despite my illiteracy campaign , this problem still needs to be managed, and more serious sacrifices of cultural buildings will presumably be necessary.

There are five Great Wonders left to get. It won't be possible to construct them all in Pasargadae in the remaining turns unless we get at least one more Great Leader, but since almost everyone is furious with us, this could happen. Whether we'll be able to build four in Pas. is a very close call--it might even be possible to get four including the Manhattan Project, which costs 800 shields, but not four thousand-shield Wonders. In any event, I can't see that we need to construct Wonders anywhere else at this point, so we can await developments for a while. When there are about twenty turns left in the game, and we can see just how many Wonders we'll be able to get in Pasargadae, we can build any Pas. isn't going to manage elsewhere for the style points.

Our reserves are concentrated in and around Persepolis and River Palace, with an empty army next to RP. Our cities in southern Russia are heavily garrisoned, too.

Our expensive dyes deal with Carthage will come up for renewal soon. I've essentially pre-replaced the dyes with the American incense, so if you choose not to extend the dyes deal, only minor adjustments should be necessary.

Amphibious Warfare is in circulation.

The Russians are at war with the Ottomans, the Greeks, the Romans, the Americans, and the Mongols, so the dogpile is working well despite our own treacherous departure from the coalition.

Over to you, mad-bax.

OK got it! Will play and post this evening (GMT).

With the 100K and 10K limits being reached (ATM) so close together it would be quite straightforward to time both events to ocurr on the same turn.

I promised to put the numbers through Apollo and the 20K calculator, and I haven't. But I will. Unfortunately I need to open the save to do it and I can't do that at work anymore.

At this point I really see no need for any more wars, so I will play my turns peacefully.

Unfortunately Apollo doesn't handle PTW files (I just tried), so the 100K point will have to be hand calculated. It's a bit tricky to capture all the improvements that are yet to double up, but haven't yet. Also we will only be able to guess at what point our culture will be double Greeces.

You want them to be admirers of culture. If they are, then you have doubled them.

Good to know. Is there a full list somewhere correlating the verbal descriptions with the mathematical degree of cultural superiority or inferiority?

I agree, mad-bax--peaceful turns will be fine from this point, provided the AI civs don't attack us.

1645AD: Pre-turn.
As usual NP has done a brilliant job. But this time I decide to undo some of his good work :D
I sell libraries and temples in border towns to reduce the rate of culture accumulation. I know this increased the chances of flips, but in 8 turns we get the internet and 25 research labs along with it.THis will compound our overall culture problem.

I reduce research to 40% to get Genetics in 10. 2 turns after internet. This will allow 2 turns offshore platform pre-build for CforC.

Total culture = 64969

IBT:
Babylon wants ROP. I agree since I believe it will change his attitude from furious, and reduce the chance of a sneak attack.
Nope. He is still furious :D

1650AD:
Worker turns clearing pollution. Nothing else really.

IBT:
Russia and America sign peace.
Lincoln wants embargo vs Russians. No.
Ottomans want the same. No
Greece want ROP. No, since we may go to war with them soon.

1655AD:
Sorry, but I had to put some workers on auto pollution clear up. I missed a tile of pollution under a stack of units on the previous turn.
Total culture = 66169

1660AD:
Turned a few workers into radar towers in far flung places for the defence bonus.

IBT:
UN vote prompt.

1665AD:
Cleared pollution.
Disbanded all our old units (except a few elites and one or two others)

IBT:
Our Dyes deal runs out with Carthage. This could be painful.
Babs want WM + Flight for WM. Always makes me smile.

1670AD:
Decide not to renew lux deal with Carthage. Our cores are happy enough.
Hire some clowns.

IBT:
Carthage wants to sell dyes for wines + 114gpt. No
Cathy wants Embargo vs Romans. No
H-man wants ivory for 19gpt. Nice try. No.

1675AD:
Nothing Happened
Relented on luxes deal. Dyes from carthage for Ivory, wines and 63gpt. Didn't realise how chep this was. 10% on the slider reduces our net income by 430gpt.

IBT:
Babylon and Russia sign MA against Rome. Nice.
Mongols and Babylon sign MA Against Rome.

1680AD:
Nothing Happened

1685AD:
A lot of workers completed, which are just an overhead as far as I am concerned so I make some into radar towers.
Total culture = 69796

IBT:
Osman wants Horses. No
Carthage and Greece sign MA against Russia. OK then I'll give Osman Horses.
Greece wants embargo against Russia. No
Learn Genetics - Research Ecology just to get Modern Armour.
Internet completes - Start C for C
America declares war on the Romans,

1690AD:
Some of the civs have some money now. We could do with a bit more.
Electronics to Greece for 1400g + 25gpt
Electronics to Catherine for Amphibious war +180g +33gpt
Electronics to Babylon for 60g + 37gpt
Corporation to Ottomans for 20g + 19gpt
Carthage has lots of money but only wanted to give us 9g for electronics. They were given first refusal. They must be just about to complete research. I know I could have held the tech, but someone must have been close to finishing it, so I though I might aswell make some money out of it.

total culture = 70453
Pasargadae 14787 @ 123cpt

1695AD:
All quiet.
total culture = 71112
Pasargadae 14910 - rate = 123cpt:
20K limit reached in 42 turns
100K limit reached in 44 turns

One question. How on earth did we make 42 transport? We could ship 370 tanks in one go with all those. There is 40gpt sitting right there. I would disband most of them. We might possibly need a couple for worker and settler movement, but unlikely now.

I meant to build an airfield just to see what it looked like :(

There are a couple of boats on goto just to throw a ring around Pasargadae.

Everyone is at war with either the Romans or the Russians, or both.

I apologise for the lack of pictures, but apart from the internet splash and the diplomacy advisor screen I couldn't think of anything to upload.

Here is our troubled world.

Here is the <<save>>.

Only a grossly inadequate 336, actually. :D More seriously, all those transports have allowed us to set up really good ferries and ship chains, which would allow us to move large forces from almost any point in our empire to any other instantly in time of crisis. Everything looks different now that we're on the brink of victory, but I don't think any of the transports were redundant when built. This is a large map, after all.

The reason why I change all our corrupt cities to worker builds every time my turn comes up is to provide the material for worker merges. We still have cities in China and Mongolia which could use pumping up, if only for the extra points on our score. My bad for not explaining this explicitly.

Good work on bringing the ETA for 20K closer than that for 100K. :goodjob: Since doubling effects could still bite us, I'd like to see the gap between these dates increase a bit more.

Well, we don't really need to research anything else. So we could turn off research when we get to Synth Fibres, sell all our libraries and unis and just have some fun with modern warfare for the last few turns. It looks like OFW will get two rounds and NP and myself one each. So if OFW gets us so SF and sells off the family jewellry, we could see how much of the map we can lay waste to in 30 turns.

Sorry about the workers. I'll know in future.

I have the save and will play by tomorrow afternoon.

Way to get the 100K, 20K thing in order mad-bax!

this should be a fun end to a game!!

Okay, so I lied;)

I am having fun, However, I have only gotten 2 turns in today, and now I have another thing getting in my way tonight, I start a new Bowling league.

Anyway, I plan on leaving the game running while I watch football tomorrow. I might get some turns in, I will probably, at the latest, have my turns done by wednesday.

I am trying to set up a simultaneous attack on the Russia, Greece and Babylon, I doubt I will get it done on my turns,(as this will take some planning and positioning) but now you know my crazed plans!!

Wish me luck Sirs!!

You don't need to hurry, or to do anything which will compromise your enjoyment of the NFL. ;) I've been playing a lot recently and wouldn't mind a short break.

Good luck with the crazed scheme. :D

You guys are gonna kill me, and I am soo sorry for being so long lately. I probably won't have my turns posted tonight, I will try to get them done by tomorrow

again I am sorry

Don't worry about it OFW. I can't play 'till the weekend anyway as I am UP everywhere. I have a few late nights ahead of me. :)
