Oh, the weather outside is...

We had the most snow on Christmas Day since 1995. Fourth-coldest Christmas Day since recordkeeping began in 1878. Altogether very appropriate weather. Usually the good snows and cold spells (below freezing for many days at a time) don't arrive until January.

We're still too far south for Lake Effect, so my Boxing Day hike was not significantly impeded by the snow, but it added to the beauty of the scene. The lake I hiked by was in the process of freezing over, and small sheets of ice were being knocked against other small sheets of ice by the waves, creating a wind chime-y effect.

Rain!! The first in months.

Meh weather:

It could have been worse, so I am not complaining; at least it's above zero all day.

Even hotter today. 25 degrees at 9:30 am. Currently 21 at 20:37 at night. Heat pumps been on 16 all-day.

-8 in the coldest parts of the county in considered very cold.
As long as there's no wind and the Sun is out, that's long-sleeve shirt weather here (for short trips outside; you still need a coat if you're going to be out more than a few minutes).

Even -20C with no wind is actually warm enough to not need a heavy coat. It's not unusual for people to greet each other with "Nice day!" when we have those conditions.

I don't own a long sleeve warm jacket just a rain coat me

Generally wear shirt sleeves unless it's windy.

T shirt, long sleeves, puffer vest and a beanie is my go to once it's cold.

Even in the cold part of the country it's 4 degrees warmer on average than London.

Not a fan of wet though. If I'm dry and moving around cold doesn't bother me to much.

In which country, if you don't mind me asking? It's not just latitude that matters, but also altitude and proximity to large bodies of water and mountains.

Czech Republic. It's the Gulf Stream thing that makes Europe much warmer than it should be. Still, it's damn too warm for the season....

The melting of the Greenland ice should fix that Gulf Stream thing....

We have ice fog this morning. I can barely see the trees across the street. Even the ones across the parkade from my window are hard to see.

I've always wanted to live in California, but watching the torrent rainfall, the flooding, and mud slides going on right now, I'm happy where I am. The temperatures these past few days have been 15-20 degrees above average for January. A little rain wouldn't be bad, though.

We still have 3-4 months of winter to go...

(depends on what happens in May; some years it's definitely over by then, but some years can be weird and we'll get blizzards)

It's cold enough for some hail/sleet/snow.
It's warm enough that it melted into a slush.
It's cold enough that it froze over again turning the country road I live on into a sheet of ice.

The cold snap before Christmas was colder, and wasn't annoying, just cold.
This is just the right range of temperatures to be really annoying.
