We're not barbarians (much) it's Celsius.

Above 10 in winter is mild/warm. 8 is fairly typical. Went for a 5km walk. Darkest night was few weeks ago technically its mid winter now.
 
Things heard on the radio, the last couple of days:

- Epidemiologists have pinned over 60,000 excess deaths in Europe in 2022 to extreme heat.
- 10% of homes in Europe currently have air conditioning.
- The temperature in Athens is so dangerous today, they're closing the Parthenon for several hours in the afternoon. Athens emergency services are especially on the lookout for tourists (who may not realize what they're in for, I guess).
- The average number of days per year that Phoenix AZ was above 110F/43C, in the 20th Century: 5.
- The average number of days per year that Phoenix AZ is above 110F/43C now: 27.
- The all-time highest temperature recorded on Earth was 134F/56.6C at Furnace Creek, Death Valley, California in 1913. Meteorologists are projecting that record will be broken this weekend.
- In the United States, heatwaves account for more deaths than any other weather-related phenomena.
 
We don't really get heat waves like that here. Presumably mountains and ocean moderate them.

Late 30's is like a day or two on a stinking hot summer day or a hot day in one of the microclimate areas.
 
We're in day 14 of heat warnings/warches. Today was the first time since July 8 the temperature didn't exceed 100F. Still heat index at 105. A few days ago, Vernon TX hit 126F, and that's before the humidity is factored in. The long-range forecasts are triple-digit temps through the end of the month with attendant higher heat indexes. Absolutely abnormal for Oklahoma summers.

The weird part is that almost every night we have thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and high winds (40-80mph). We may fry, but the drought has gone.
 
We're having a heckuva loud thunderstorm right now. I've just brought a flashlight into the room (it's about 10:30 pm and pitch dark outside right now, except for very bright flashes of lightning).

Didn't quite break the record: 128F/53.9C over the weekend.

Temperatures in Las Vegas reached 114 degrees at 2:28 p.m. local time Monday. It was 2 degrees short of a daily record high, and 3 degrees shy of the city's all-time record high.

Delta released a statement in which they apologized for the "uncomfortable" temperatures inside the plane's cabin. Right, people were vomiting and being carried out on stretchers because they were uncomfortable. :rolleyes:
 
Back from cool and lovely days in Africa to 100+ degrees in Albuquerque. No rain at all in either place.
 
Another week of (mostly) hell, but temperatures may fall a bit. Currently one can walk (for exercise) at night hours.

It's been tolerable here this week. 80-85F/27-29C. Usually the humidity here is high, but it hasn't been so bad the last few days. 74F/23C with 75% humidity right now.

Miserably hot. It's 9:30 am and the heat index is already at 115. I'm housesitting a friend's place with a pool, and I got in last night at 7 pm and it wasn't really a relief because the water itself was so hot It's perfect around 6 - 8 am though. :lol:

Yeah, heatstroke does tend to be 'uncomfortable'. It can also be fatal.

I've only experienced it up to heat exhaustion - in my own apartment, two years ago during the heat dome that wasn't quite as bad as it was in BC (it was pretty devastating there; hundreds of people died, who knows how many animals, and Lytton burned to the ground). And if I was contemplating the hospital the morning that my fan turned up from Amazon (fortunately the fan cooled me down enough that I was able to recover a bit), I can only imagine how hellish it must have been for the people on the plane.

Get the temperature hot enough for long enough, and it becomes really hard to expend the energy to even think, let alone do anything. July is one of the NaNoWriMo months, and without the fan, I wouldn't have been able to manage it. I'm surprised I turned out any coherent sentences that summer (2021). I was constantly checking to make sure Maddy was still breathing and that she had enough to drink.

Those are some very uncivilized temperatures. :nono: I'd be glad to exchange that for New Zealand temperatures right now.

It's going to be another hot day here. I need to keep the window open to let air in (too expensive to run the fan unless it gets unmanageable). That also means I get to listen to the pigeon infestation we're having this year (I really hate pigeons; they're noisy and they stink).
 
We finally had some rain last night and this morning and temps are down 15 degrees (F) from yesterday. Welcome relief, and we look to have more rain & t-storms to look forward to.
