Oh, the weather outside is...

... hot in Australia

Watched a heavy display of northern lights yesterday. Amazing sight. Today though I’m worried - it’s insane that we’re able to see this in southern Norway at this time of the year.

Last day of winter was late teens. Spring essentially started 2 weeks ago going by hayfever and yellow pollen on the ground

We got our first fall cold front a couple of days ago. That means lows around 13°C (55°F) and highs around 27°C (80°F). That's obviously not cool by northern European standards, but it feels nice to not sweat whenever you go outside. I have the windows open now in the evening, and it is nice to give the AC a bit of a rest.

What kind of trees produce yellow pollen there? In North Carolina we would get lots of yellow pine pollen in April.

Pine here.

... going to get stormy in New Orleans

It's 11C here, and the temperatures are finally getting more September-appropriate. There are some years when we've already had first frost and even first snow by this point.

Not this year, though. It was 30C a few days ago, which is not a good temperature for this time of year.

Rainy and windy thanks to hurricane Francine, but I'm far enough away that the only danger is flooding.

Autumn is here. Strong winds, heavy rain, mushroom poisoning, landslides.

Ah, mushroom poisoning. Shame that such venerable traditions have been supplanted by Starbucks flavoring fads.

(Does that really become a problem?)

To some extent. The deadly webcap is the most common culprit. I think there are now 20 people waiting for kidney transplants.

Some say that the webcap looks just like an edible kind. No it does not.

Yup it really doesn't. Chanterelle might be the closest but it's far stretched.
I don't collect any shrooms with lamellae, and in general webcaps already look yuck:

There are also deadly plants etc in open nature.

Any mushrooms I consume are either found on a pizza, in a can of soup, or in Chinese takeout. I also have a few cans that I intend to use to flange up my own version of veggie fried rice. The only wild plants I feel safe in picking is saskatoons.

It's chilly today. I should really think about closing the window.

Spring came early and the cherry blossoms in Hagley Park came with it...

Then cold and rain >:(

Since I misplaced my previous mini-broom that I use for sweeping the snow off the wheels of my walker when I go from outside to inside, I replaced it the other day (if I don't sweep the snow off, a puddle is created on the floor as soon as I get inside).

We'll make it through September without snow. We'll probably get some at some point in October, as it's getting chillier. I've had to put extra layers on the bed and need to find my toque and gloves. Some days it's not whether there's snow, but how windy it is.
