Having troubles with availability in the UK, August would would have been the earliest I would be able to start playing. Last weekend I phoned a mate of mine who is working over in the good old USA (Denver) and asked him to get a copy and Airmail it ... it arrived yesterday 8.7.06, thats 8th July in case any of you colonials get confused :)

So load it onto the trusty G5 (2gig DP) and lets start killing the enemy :D

First impression this game reminds of "Civilization ~ Call to Power" ... hmmm gettting worried already, but its early days yet.

Right, Sunday 9.7.09 feeling a bit bored so lets try something, I read somewhere that it was running on a PIII so if it will run on that RAP (with a silent C) it might run on ... well say no more ... just look at the attachment  (for those who are interested it runs at the same speed as Civ3 on a G3/266

BTW ~ I owe my mate $49.95 + Airmail (roughly £50.00) ... can I reclaim this for being a BETA tester. ;)

IMOA ~ this game is just like C3C ... issued before it has been totally de-bugged.

No offence intended to Brad Oliver

I remember being on vacation in London on 4 July about 20 years ago. Came out of the hotel room, saw a local, cheerfully mentioned: "Happy Indepen... um... never mind."

No problem. We also celebrate the date when we achieved independence ... from the States :p.

England is independent from the US? When did THAT happen? England is one of our finest colonies! Great people, hard working, don't revolt, etc.

I don't know that "don't revolt" can be applied to Scotland or Ireland. So England could well be the most appropriate geographical term there.

I'll leave comments on the veracity of "hard working" to others...

What no WALES ;)

I gave it a go on a 17" powerbook G4 which is about a year old.

G4 1,67ghz
512MB RAM
9700 ati radeon mobility 128MB

cIV works, the audio has problems (which other macs seem to have to), the menu's are as fast as my copy of cIV on PC but the gameplay is in slow-motion.

Basically, I could post a similar screenshot like yours but the game is unplayable. I went into the debug menu and turned of all textures en eye-candy but the game remained slow-motion. I'm not really familiar with CIII's speed on a G3.

Are you too experiencing the same slow-motion or do you have some advice for me to speed up the game?

Get the patch, then see if it's any better. If not the next thing to focus on is your RAM. 512 MBytes is barely enough to do anything at all complex in Tiger, and Civ4 is COMPLEX.

Haha that's the way I got my copy (my Uncle lives out there), couldn't be bothered to wait because when I ordered Civ3 complete from amazon uk they delivered it 2 months late  , so I took a chance with the American route which worked out well.

Thanks for the tip, Alan. I'll see what the patch can do. I'm not going to upgrade my RAM because it's just not worth it. I use a PC for everything complex and this powerbook just for writing (openOffice) :)

Let me tell you… upgrading from 512 MB to 1 GB RAM is very noticeable for just about anything besides typing. And actually, OpenOffice is Java-based, right? (I know NeoOffice is.) You should notice a boost in overall speed with that too.

There's two RAM slots on the PowerBook, right? Adding a second chip wouldn't be that expensive (probably be under $100). But certainly, everything has a price.

OpenOffice is a huge pig of a suite of programs. It's certainly going to benefit from more RAM, particularly if you use the graphics or spreadsheet modules.

NeoOffice is actually more streamlined and doesn't drag in the entire XWindows environment with it.
