Maybe some could help with specific questions on old (up to late medieval, i suppose) architecture?

For example, does the following look decently close to ancient-->early dark age northern european (so-called 'germanic') architecture?

Colors and buildings mostly, i know i used an anglo-saxon one (the palace, main building in the south-eastern part of this set), the other two main edifices are viking.

Perhaps add some greater contrast between the buildings and the ground? They sort of blur together into a pea-green slop (or it could very well be that I need to adjust my monitor again).

As far as strict historical look goes, I agree the roofs would be of a tan thatch. Also, I seem to remember that a lot of Anglo-Saxon buildings -especially in a village- would use a 'wattle-and-daub' method on the exterior walls rather than timber. That would make the walls more of a beige than brown.

Well, it is an ancient--->early dark age northern european (germanic) set, so it does not really have a very set period or culture...

Going by the suggestions, i now have this:

It is not finished yet anyway. Do the new textures look nearer the supposed 'authentic'?

Thank you Domen :) I will get back to the viking set later...

For now i finished the actual lighting/shape of the sets, and i think my models look better in this format. This is the new Byzantine Empire metropolis:

Colors are close to historical, i suppose, although some things are more generic due to color limitations as well...
