Man this is a ceremony! I'm rushing of to see it, but I want to ask one question: How many of you rused to the net to see the Greek alphabet? ;) :D

I can't even be botheres to think up a sarcastic comment about this enterprise in marketing.

hope nobody goes, then the terrorists won't kill anyone when they finally blow it up.

I had enough physics in school to decipher road signs in Greece - so i didn't need to look things up.

Well I must say except fot York the Ceremony was excellent! I now trully understand why Greece is the mother of (not only bust mostly) Western Civilization. I hope this would mean something in the world and we will actually have peace for at least 16 days.

The ceremony was outstanding and only let down by one thing specifically Bjork as a choice for singer :(

DJ was good though :)

Yeah I already am learning a little Ελληνικά :D (Greek), one of my friends a school is Greek and I thought it'd be cool to learn it.

I thought the Opening was the greatest. I hope to find this online soon.

Y'know, they should have the olympics in civilization. Either in a wonder, or something else... Wouldn't that be cool?

I'm going to have to agree with syphilis, I really don't care...

A rare agreement between us indeed. Is the STD reference absolutely necessary though, or did you just forget the smiley?

It was a joke...I can never remember how to spell your name. S-Y-S-Y-P-H-U-S...sorry, syphilis is as close as I ever get.

Well, I'm all for humour, so no worries. Perhaps a spell checker at the next CFC upgrade is in order.

I watched for a couple of minutes, but I missed the beginning and I found the parade of nations to be rather boring.

What's funny is that the name rmsharpe couldn't remember is originally Greek.

I just finished watching it. They showed it in the US about 5 hours later than the rest of the world it seems (so that it would be during "Prime Time". It was interrupted a few times by "sponsers" and other commercials though, and the usual skipping of a few nations in the parade of nations during commercials. From what I saw in the chatroom, they showed a lot more fireworks there than they seemed to do here...

 Erm sorry, Olypiwhats?

I agree. The Olympics are likely the most boring sports event on the planet. I don't see why all the fuss.

Just like one out of 10 competitions is of a sport actually worth watching.

We should get rid of the Olympics and have World Cups every two years. :D

Then you've missed all the good stuff. :p The point of watching Olympic openings is the show at the beginning. From that, you get to gauge the host nation's economic, cultural and artistic level.

The parade of nations is just a scaled up version of your school athletic meet. :D Of course, if you're in the audience, you're SUPPOSED to cheer for your team as they enter, so it's also a PR opportunity.

I'm a big World Cup fan too. But I also like to keep the Olympics around. :) It's about the only truly internationalist sporting event we have around. And despite peace and goodwill bla-bla-bla being dull and boring, at least it provides us with a temporary diversion from daily warmongering and depressing news. :)
