Sweet baby jesus thats a nice start.
Enjoy.

Specs: Huge Fractal marathon on prince.

Why is there only 1 settler unit--- oh yeah nvm theres an option.\

But GOD! BEELINE MINING AND WORKERS!!!

It's a decent start, but it's actually not as great as it looks. Once you improve all the proper squares, you've only got a +3 food surplus, which is only enough for 1 1/2 of the mines. And you've only got 2 river squares that'll give extra food via improvement. So you're city is going to be pretty food-starved early on.

At size 7, for example, even if you've farmed the two grassland/river tiles, you're still going to only have +1 food, and you won't be able to work all the mines (or you'll be losing food).

Once Biology hits, that city will be a true powerhouse. And it's still a better than average start, that's for sure.

you can either grab both deer or the two silver in the BFC, and the two squares north of the scout look to be grasslands. Seem to me to make the most of this start is to settle 1E of the scout to grab all the metal, farm the grasslands, grab machinery ASAP to get windmills on the other hills to work them, and enjoy. If I had BtS I would so grab the save...

1E of the scout is undoubtedly the tile.

Personally I think the best thing to do with the city is farm what you need to farm, but otherwise found Hinduism or Buddhism [1] [2] and leave enough forests to run maximum merchants with National Park and Wall Street.

[1] It's Prince, you can do it. Although to be safe I'd start by working the unimproved gold tile.
[2] I'd go Hinduism because cold regions tend to have Marble for the Poly-based wonders

Great start. Between the Sheep (or Pig, can't tell) and the Deer you'll be able to work all those mines and have a real economy/ production/ wonder powerhouse capital. The money = head start on the wonders + lots of Forests + lots of hammers. This is an almost perfect inland capital. It even has several rivered grassland to cottage. Hear my jealously.

Cheers,

Dai

Yeah, but not low enough to be a big problem. I did play the save, but with the disclaimer that I can't quite identify each tile from the screenshot:

[pre] F+0 F+0 f-?
W+0 F+0 M-2 P+2 f+0
F+1 f-1 C+2 L+0 M-2
F+0 f-1 f-1 F+1 M-2
f-? C+1 F+1[/pre]
Before CS, at size 8 you have a great city with

City +2
Pasture +2
Camp +1
2 Farms +2
3 $ Mines -6

It still has a +1 surplus that can work a forest or grow into plains farms. Sure, it's somewhat low, but it's great early and can also be great late. Low food + forests + starting with Mysticism + commerce tile + Prince is why it's excellent for shrine + Wall Street + National Park. And great production! When I played I had to resist the strong temptation to put Heroic Epic there... :mischief:

Whenever I'm considering laying down grassland farms in my capital, I consider my capital to be low food. It looks to me like 1 gold and 2 silver? Is that right? If so, the silver aren't that great in terms of commerce tiles, not to offset the loss of the grassland cottages that will instead be 0 commerce farms.

EDIT: Also, isn't the sheep only +1?

Grass hill sheep is 4F.

If your point is that the start is not great overall, I claim that it has advantages - early happy resources, early high production and commerce, national wonder opportunity - that can be exploited to make it great.

gold is 2C more than silver.

Ok, that's good about the sheep. I thought it was only +1 like deer so that was part of my concern. 2 early :) is nice, but I still love having early food surplus. I always find I have difficulties when I have games with slow-growing capitals...

Good, but you won't have enough food in the BFC to work all three mines until Biology.
