Onan's multisession G&K, Alternate Reality Game (8pm in Auckland, GMT +13)

I've always used DX9, it's not a problem for me. In fact, I wish I could skip that screen where it makes you select the DX version before it'll launch...probably there is.

It's only a problem if it becomes an issue post-patch for me to still be using DX9 for MP.

Just saw a post in another thread...I can only use DX9, only option when I load up.

Win7? -> then check if either Steam or Civ5 have been installed in Vista compatibility mode (and if so, then deactivate it).

Thanks for the tip J, but no, XP.

Tested it last night, I was running DX9, EEE was on 11, not sure what Islandia and calcio were using. Loaded up a game on Ren start with six AI, seemed to work fine.

A little over 13 hours to go!!

Make it less than 7.....Just saw Skyfall, was a good movie, now off to bed for less then a 7 hours sleep....

I do not think I will be able to participate this time.

No worries, Brenador. We'll catch you next time.

While players are resting for today's clash, I'm initiating the discussion about the map settings:

Standard size, low sea, strategic balance, random landmass generation. Others set to default. I'm afraid large map will be unplayable later.

How's that sound?

I think I'd rather do large continents...with low sea, it might even make a Pangaea. Also, for a game like this, I'm happy for resources to be unbalanced, unless people can't live with that.

Those who can't live with it... will be dead!

hehe

Session 1 is done, seemed to go very quickly. We stopped on turn 72 when it got stuck a second time...possibly chat or wonder related. (PS: move saves Tab, if you're playing any MP! I put the last five aside.)

Onan - England
Tab - Babylon
EEE - France
Islandia - Egypt
Nouco - Inca
Foffaren - Germany
Shamaflamana - Spain
aDaigo (calcio_ab) - Mongols

London was founded on the coast, but no river Thames in sight. We expanded to the nearest choice spots, securing more luxes. Wonders: Stonehenge, Pyramids, Great Lighthouse, and Oracle (next turn). Our pantheon is God of Peace, and we should found a religion next turn. Onanism will spread through the land. :p

Our policy path is unusual, Tradition opener, then liberty opener, then to free settler, then Honor opener (! lately I've had a thing for this to boost culture, but it's probably not worth it unless I go farm barbs on some uninhabited island), and then taking free culture buildings in tradition to get four free amphitheaters, so culture is trucking along now and with Oracle we'll get both 2nd tier policies in Tradition next turn. :) Believe it or not, with all these wonders, I didn't take the wonder boost policy.

We have met our neighbors the Germans, French, and Inca. The town of Orleans is in the shadow of Holy Mt. Kailash (10 faith with his pantheon!). Inca settled close south of there, unknowingly, apparently. Germany adjusted his settlement plans without us even asking, to leave us room to settle a good site! Thank you, Bismarck!

The English people are focused on building markets and mints in the near future, settling another good spot, and setting up a National College. I am glad I wrote that out, because those last two things don't fit together, doh!

May your empires be blessed by our God of Peace.

Bismark have seen other leaders mistakes in different dimensions and decided to adjust his plans slightly and hopefully win over a good friend. The fact that they act as a buffer is just a plus, not something I planned for but it played out well.

I also had a happy suprise when I started taking barb camps. Completely forgot about the german UA. All of the sudden I had more soldiers than I had money but a few markets and mints have fixed this and our economy is now very healthy.

No wonders have been built in german lands yet but there will be, soon.

Our pantheon is the one that gives bonus to gold and silver resources as our lands are rich in silver. Dont know yet if we have faith enough to start a full fledged religion. If not, we look forward to meeting the missionaries from England.

Started with 2 stone tiles, just enough to get the GL in a fair amount of time. Bellined writing and settled an academy on a forest tile to get free hammer(like a free chop) to put it in the GL. Went Liberty +1 prod then free worker to let time to mining tech to appear. Put 3 more cities after building some bowmen and free settler policy.

Missed Stonehenge by 1 turn. My pantheon came pretty late(around the turn 45) but i could choose desert folklore. There is certainly a very few desert tiles on this map and 1 of my cities is sitting on a spot of them. I built Haga Sophia for a free prophet. The NC is almost completed. I completed the Liberty tree and picked a free engineer that will rush Petra in this very unique desert city.

I forgot to record the game...

I will for the next game :)

Your scientific progress sure do eclipse the rest of the world, and with few enemies around it will only be greater. Thankfully the game wont end with a rocket launch, but it seems you can get there pretty fast.

The French historians have traced the birth of Paris to the earliest gold rush in this world. Fed by the delicious crab meat, the culturally talented French people soon answered the call of the GOD. Quickly a religiously zealous tribe has volunteered to seek the truth of prophecy, which has been spreading since the message of holy site was brought back by the explorer. The local church in Paris has long begun the preaching of 'ONE with nature', before the tribe finally made to the Holy Mt Kailash where the emissary was living.

Unfortunately, terrible news soon follows afterwards. The mysterious mountain dwellers known as the Inca aggressively settled closer to holy city. It looks like the GOD needs to test HIS believers before HE delivers HIS blessing to the French people.

The Mining tools used in the gold rush were used to mine Bronze, which made weapons more powerful. Archers were trained to occupy the high grounds where they can see further. The determination of French people to defend the faith of GOD has made the Inca people second their aggression. When the tension was escalating to a point of explosion, the wisest Inca leader sent the token of goodwill - a magic substance that can colour the clothes to make them look fashionable. The culturally addicted French people couldn't resist the opportunity to lead the future fashion industry, so they unanimously surrendered their weapons. What a drama!

The story after became boring as the French people began to construct several world wonders and failed in multiple occasions - The great Pyramid for example. A fraction of the French people questioned the path of absolute faith and began to seek power from the scientific enlightenment.

Although the GOD of happiness finally paid a visit to the French people, their diminishing faith and lack of church activities could not firmly convince the GOD of happiness to grant them the ultimate holy grail - The Hagia Sophia was also missed.

Things are moving slow and French people began to doubt on their leader's ability to resolve the conflict between the scientific and religious fractions. New settler was captured in an opportunistic attempt. In the mean time, threats began to resurface as the Inca people have gradually regain power and the distant neighbour English people aim to dominate the coast with their passions about the seafaring.

The fate of French cvilisation is now very uncertain. Knowing that a war is costly to both sides and France is in no position of demanding anything, the French merchant will deliver crab to Inca once the deal expires. The French merchant will deliver crab meat to English markets as well, in hope their stomachs are filled so they do not look to the east.

The Inca masters founded the first city on a river. The Incans hoped for mountains, but there was none were the capital was.

A spearmen(upgraded from ruines) and a scout started scouting the lands. Which was mostly forest and jungle. Somewhere north there was a spot on a river with mountains. The Inca leaders decided to settle there second city there.

Meanwhile a French scout past near the river and to the right a French archer appeared near the capital. So the Incas thought that the left riverside would be farther away from the French. The Inca didn't scout father and where unaware of the city of Orleans. Until Orleans got a tile with banana's.

After that the French started building up an army, Inca scrambled some stone throwers, and then offered dyes to make peace with the French.

The Inca's hope that this cold war will come to an end soon and that the two civilization will live in prosper. Only the English and the Germans would benefit from a war.

Meanwhile the English and Germans are still far away. But the Incans have had their UU already, but the French, the Germans and English haven't.

The Inca's play peacefully but will defend them self if necessary.

It's really unfortunate that both nations have wasted hammers on early units and kept paying gold for them. Those hammers could be Pyramid or Oracle for each.

The exact situation is like a chess, where both react to each other. And the turn timer is so quick that left me no time typing words to negotiate. Also Onan probably got into me, usually he will attack in such a settlement conflict, but we managed to avoid that, and all credit should go to the Inca :goodjob:

On the other hand, I think the map is not that bad, the thick forests without hills completely negate the effectiveness of ranges units. Only danger may come from artillery but it's a long way to go and we can avoid the conflict if we chose to. Anyway, the troops near the border are just for display purposes, Inca leader should not be worried at all.

Famous last words! :p

With that mountain range between you, I don't see any reason why you can't be good friends.

We look forward to crab meat and note this wealth Paris, with its mighty Colossus, is founded on. We will have pearls to adorn your women.

Bismarck will be rewarded many times over with the fruits of friendship between our two empires. And the French need not fear our coming naval might. There should be ample opportunities to expand at sea, without wasting resources on conflict.

Let us see if we can make our continent a beacon of peace and prosperity, and see what events transpire on the other side of the world. Though if our new friends (players) are neighbours of The Mighty Islandia and/or The Opportunistic Tabarnak, we fear they will be in grave danger!
