Onan's Speed-Optimized GMR Game

Um, why are you afraid of India?

Um, why are you afraid of India?

Haha no it's the opposite. Like in singleplayer. What other leaders think of Monty. You should had read :

India : Afraid = India is afraid of Monty

Hmn, I think Monty should stick to posting his own thoughts, rather than others' thoughts. :crazyeye:

Next question: why does he fear you? What have you been, or are you about to do? ...ah, I see, maybe Dublin is just a stepping stone for you. You don't want to bring your army to my borders...but maybe you do want to bring your borders to my borders! Roman public opinion is firmly against neighbours who indulge in human sacrifices....:old:

The real question is: Why is Monty here proliferating on these forums and not in the game taking his turn?

While species.zero actually play when he's working i do the opposite(lot of opposites tonight ). I'm actually working and these computers at my job are litterally public(anyone can sit down and use it) so that would be a deadly for me to only try to play civ at work :mischief:

Well i'm gonna tplay my turn in...1 hour. Be patient :D Let Dublin be my next city and let the Great Wall raise into my land! :king::goodjob:

@Onan : I don't know...he's pretty quiet :lol:

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been taking turns often in this game. Typically, I would take turns during breaks at work, but more recently, I've had more stuff to do. This results in my computer's memory getting filled up, causing the game to take an eternity to load, and making everything else on my computer go slower for a while after the game has closed. For this reason, I haven't been taking as many turns. I know you want to keep this game going quick, so I'll probably just surrender.

Stepping out of character for a moment, thank you for putting this great app together. I believe that if you can not commit to 1 turn a day it would be better to not hold up the game or it will be over a year before it finishes. However, just surrendering is problematic because the AI is notoriously bad at fighting, and there are two to three players in this game who have imminent plans to invade your empire.

I would suggest finding someone willing to substitute in the game until the conclusion of the next set of wars. There are a few lurkers on this thread that may be interested in your awesome empire. (Not sure what the logistics of substitution are). Once more, thanks for your hard work on the app, and joining this almost inaugural game on GMR that will go to the conclusion (when the Songhai have ground everyone into the dust!)

We,Siam, ask for our friend Islandia to stop this madness against the weak Russians . They have suffered enough in the past . Maybe you could follow the steps of Monty and attack pity city-states instead .

Mighty Siam, our leaders have conferred and decided to heed your words of wisdom. We have turned our armies westward towards the city states already at war with us rather than march them through hostile territory to the Russian homelands.

An eventful year!

Ask Sydney if Egypt is the good guy! We have heard tales of recent slave raids. This barbaric practice must be abolished.

And the Aztecs, taking Dublin? In just about the centre of the world? Is the Songhai leader saying he supports this outrage?

Caesar invites the 'legendary' Aztec army to venture closer to our lands, so we can reliably measure your strength!

And, congratulations to the Songhai for claiming the lead in the world's technology race!

Edit: The Roman position on the supposed alliance is to wait to see if it is in fact real...at this point it seems to be bluster, and laughable at that. What happened to the Songhai position of rebuffing the Aztec advances if he move onto the great plain? Dublin is right in the middle of the plains....

The problem for Caesar of being diplomatically discreet with everyone is that you never know who your true allies and enemies are. Et tu Brute?

We have modified our position on the Aztecs as a result of realizing that we share more with Monty than with the conniving Egyptians. Any attempts to oppose Monty will merely help the Egyptians continue their plotting and whispered insinuations. We also suspect the Romans have fallen for the charms of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra as Caesar and his generals are all enamored of her.

Our technology lead is as ephemeral as our diplomatic relations with Egypt so while our scholars accept your congratulations, our military advisors have staged a coup and taken control of the government. They believe that the Songhai should showcase their cavalry for all the world to see that we are not to be manipulated, and soon our neighboring city states will learn to fear the thundering of horse hooves.

In most games where we've tried to continue with a sub after someone has quit, this has led to the game being unable to continue without the original player. I don't know why this happens, but I've seen it scrap too many games to want to risk it. Maybe it will work differently in GMR due to some manipulation of the save file. If not, I'd advise against trying it, or at least be prepared for it to be unworkable, and for us to need species zero to come back to be able to advance the turns.

This is actually a very viable option if we had someone willing to take over! I've done this with two other GMR games so far, both of which worked great (from a technical point of view, I'm not sure how it affected the politics/experience for those players). In one of the games they even had me put back the original player once he got back from vacation.

Having an option on the website that would allow people to leave a game and give a substitute is actually on my list of things to do :)

Exiting lurker mode to say that I will gladly step in as a sub if it is actually possible. But its always better to keep the original player.

If you can unite the Indian 'garbage' empire and hold off the imminent invasion from Aztec and Songhai Evil axis, consider it as a alliance victory by itself.

Or if New elected Indian president wants to join the evil axis, then a different story can be written.

Compared to the incest, enslavement, and pillaging that the Egyptian empire does, the Songhai believe that our unilateral cancellation of a trade deal falls well into the benign, pillow fighting area of the Axis of Evil. Your grand plans to ally with the Romans and Indians will likely fail as the Romans are building up a military force to free the farm animals on their borders from the Indian theft.

Well, if the Russians had no objection against the unilateral cancellation, Egypt has no position in this argument. But seems they are annoyed in this matter. Egypt just wants the agreements are respected so that deceitful business conduct won't be a norm in this game.

If Songhai leader can acknowledge his wrong in this unilateral cancellation of contract, reach certain compensation scheme with the Russians, and promise to uphold the spirit of contractual agreement, Egyptians can wirhdrawal his prejudice of Songhai leader

The Songhai leader acknowledges that he will act in the best interest of the Songhai which means he wants nothing to do with the Egyptians. The Chinese Russians near the Songhai know that they keep their pledge to be good neighbors, even though it was better to have taken a city from them. Our trade agreements are our own business, and we will suffer no more interference from the Egyptians.

We wish the Egyptians luck in their trade embargo, self aggrandizing propaganda, and moralistic hypocrisy. If you wish to declare the Songhai as part of the Axis of Evil, then be prepared to face the nuclear weapons that may one day be acquired! As part of your threat, you will be forced to end the gold for wine trade to the Songhai who never wanted to trade away our only source of wine for giving you reconnaissance information. If that threat does not materialize, then the Songhai and rest of the world know that the Egyptian leader is full of sound and fury signifying nothing, because he does not want to lose his extra source of luxury resources even though he asks everyone else to trade embargo the Songhai.

Evil axis...propaganda again. Put actions instead of words and we will see who is the axis in this evil world...:crazyeye:

Seems the last effort to reason with the Songhai fails miserably. The only reason that the embargo has not been enforced is because the turn is not ready for Egypt. We shall see who suffers more...

I'm all for Foffaren joining us, if it'll work fine. And being a sub is not usually an enviable position, so no need to worry about him inheriting a bad spot. It goes with the territory.

It seems, though, that Firaxis' patch plans may trump this discussion...we'll see if the game's playable tomorrow, and if not, if Mel has an ace up his sleeve to fix the anticipated problems.... Fingers crossed, but feeling sad, like it may be the end of our world we've cultivated for three months now.

As for all this in-game propaganda, we Romans do not seek to label any other civs and will deal with any and all as the situation merits. We will let our actions speak for themselves. ...Sure hope we get to finish this game!
