Online petition for an updated Civ III editor

I support this petition.

The best (and probably only) way for this to work, is releasing the source codes. I know it's hard work, but there are people willing to do it and they will eventually come with a modified editor allowing all the additions/changes requested here.

What I want to see most, is air units working like in civ2.

I support, I would definately buy a new version of Civ3 if it had updated editor features.

An events editor would be a great addition IMO, plus a collection of the other great ideas on this thread.

Even if the best option is to release the entire source code for free, something's going to have to be done about legal stuff like copy protection and such. The best thing really might be just to start from scratch with a DirectX project, and maybe release just the important C++ files (of course, Visual C++ 6.0 and DirectX would be required).

I think everyone should read the comment that came from a 2K rep in the news update section that clearly states releasing Civ III code is legally not feasible for the near future.
Not difficult, but totally not feasible.

Other options will have to explored.

If they would allow animated terrain and cities, I swear I would change my signature to "CIV3 ROCKS!" and I will post a "CIV3 ROCKS!" message on every forum I'm registered to!

That alone should make it worth their while adding such a feature ;) !!

More to the point, this thread is supposed to help demonstrate if there is enough of an interest in BUYING an update, patch or just a new editor should one be made available.

That is why I created the thread with the polling question, to guage interest numerically. In this thread, people post more than once, we can't just count the number of posts.
In the poll I set up, I believe people can only vote once.
I think the two threads are complementary.
Yours deals with what people want to see, mine deals with how many users will pay for something, and how much they will pay.

yes. the wish-lists of bjornlo, civinator and steph cover all what is needed.

personally i am frustrated that the different civs don't accumulate their features.

* in civ 1 a civ could split after civil war.
* in civ 2 you could donate all sorts of military equipment.
* in civ 3 those features don't exist.

Re: Civ2 I think even more important was the ability (however annoyingly slow) to have food convoys.

Working Charm option
Add Eras option
Add/delete difficulty levels option
Clearer Plague effects, or at least no infinite plague spreading
Ability to play a game with more than 32 civs at once
A flavor option for units that we can add/rename, and flags that go with it. (such as a flavor option for "Heavy Ordinance", and then there are flags that can be checked like "transport Heavy Ordinance Only")
Fix submarnine bug.

Sure, I'd pay for a new editor, but it ain't happening.

At this point I'd just be happy with a sub bug fix. But if that's all they do, it'd sure as hell better be free.

Here is what I would definately like to see...

Better organization of mass objects in the editor; units, techs, buildings, etc.
No building limits!
AI actually using land transports and artillery
The ability to ask a civ to have peace/war with another civ (For the human and the AI)
The ability to detect specific units

And what my personal preferances are...
Unit-generating rescources

I agree with all this and support this petition.

Just a new suggestion :

- separate "hard attack" and "soft attack" for artillery units

"hard attack" means attacks against vehicules -- antitank ability
"soft attack" means attacks against people and/or buildings
