It's almost impossible to have Marble before starting the Oracle. By the time I hook up marble, I've already lost the race.

The Pyramids are just too expensive hammer-wise. It's much better to let someone else build them then capture them.

Both if; chop-whip the O, get MC, whip forge... hope for an G.Eng. (30-40+% since prophet gpp's start first.)

Mids
Representation beakers give me more techs.

I'll have to agree with first reply, Oracle has to come nearly same time as marble... But if I knew I could get one of them, I'd grab Pyramids for an early rep.

I like the oracle because you get a free tech.

6-4-1 now. Somebody voted the Monkey Butt Wonder!

Was me :D ... I'm getting tired of being DoWed by Alex or Shaka while building one of those 2 wonders  ..... When having such nice neighbours, I prefer to invest my hammers in another wonder, called " Axe SoD" that kills enemy units and transfers their cities to our control....

More seriously, the Mids are a better wonder than the Oracle, but it is so hammer heavy that I simply ignore it.... Oracle is very neighbour-dependant and there are some civs ( like the Mali brat ) that pursue it like there is no tomorrow ( sometimes there isn't  ) ....

What is the monkey-butt wonder?

The Pyramids are to expensive and I always lose the oracle race...

Hmm...

Guess it's The Monkey Butt wonder!

"That's the second biggest monkey butt i've ever seen!"

Oracle's great if you manage to get copper or iron near a major city. Marble tends to take too long to hook up to really matter.

Pyramids are great if you don't really have anything else to build and/or you have stone, since it takes just long enough to get a big boost when you hook it up, unlike Stonehenge or teh Wall.

It depends *entirely* on the leader (and somewhat on the lay of the land depending on the leader).

If it's a leader that demands a Cottage Economy (if it's a financial leader), then Oracle gets top priority and Pyramids are irrelevant.

If it's a leader that demands a Specialist Economy (if it's a philosophical, spiritual and/or industrious), then Pyramids gets top priority and Oracle is tried only in a non-main production city after Marble is hooked up, if at all.

If my lay of the land gives me a Production Economy (i.e. no good commerce, so commerce must be produced by producing military units and taking other people's land that has good commerce), then I probably won't go for any at all (although once Marble is hooked up, Oracle is tempting), since I'm busy building as many units as fast as possible.

The lay of the land and a few other things also dictate what sort of economy approach I will take, and the priority of these two wonders is directly correlated to the type of economy pursued.

I start them both at the same time, oracle at my capital, and mids at the second best production city with some forests around. there're times I got them both, or miss them both.

If I'm going for a cultural win and/or playing an SE game, I go for both, otherwise Oracle or neither.

I used to think Mids, but I've noticed that 90% of all my games I play on Heraldic Rule anyway, so it's Just easier to Tech monarchy, and ignore the Mids all together. I usually chop for the oracle when it becomes available and almost always get it, but I usually just spend it on a Late religion, since I always miss Bud/Hindu anyway. If I miss the Big O it doesn't bother me Much.

Quite frankly, I've found more fun in Rushing for TGW, with Aggressive Barbs checked on. :viking:
