Orbis Bug Thread (Old)

As the Bannor (not sure if that matters) I'm unable to explore dungeons and unique features. Other explorables - ruins, lairs, and graveyards - work just fine. Somewhat annoying, as with the dungeons I have to go into the worldbuilder and remove them, as my workers can't improve the tiles while they're there and I have no way to get rid of them.
 
It also happens to me from time to time, often as Bannor :) Last time, I was able to explore everything in the beggining, but then (about time I got fanaticism, so midgame) I lost ability to explore dungeons (I could explore lairs as always)
 
Looks like they just have a few overriding issues. I mean most things work for some civilization or another. :p
Also, Clan of Embers, my worldspell didnt appear so i couldnt use it. Doesnt look like theres any prerequisite to using it. [Again, using custom game.]
 
Not sure if this is a bug or what is going on but I've run up against a weird situation with the Khazad minor leader Vita (sp?). I'm playing as Decius (good) as the Malakim. Early in the game I take a city from the barbarians culturally. While the map has ended up being a sort of Pangaea, the Khazad and I are for all practical purposed separated by water.

So Vita goes RoK and I'm still unaffiliated (working on getting Order) and out of the blue Vita decides to attack me. Okay, no problem, I'm playing on a tiny map with 6 Civ's total so there isn't a lot of space and my city is vulnerable. However this happened at about Turn 120 and I think I'm in the 300's. Except for sinking all of his triremes he sends my way, I haven't bother fighting him since I've been mostly at war with the Calabim and Svartalfar. However, even though I'm good w/Order and he's neutral w/RoK, I can't seem to get him to make peace! Now I know that sometimes you have to beat the AI or take a city to get them thinking they need to back down but we've been at war for close to 200 turns and out of that maybe have fought 4 times!

Worse, Vita created Basium and STILL he won't break off the war...even though Basium thinks I'm the cat's pajamas. I would think that after awhile Vita would be under severe war weariness. Either that isn't there a vanilla BTS mechanic that if you haven't had any real combat in X amount of turns that the AI is a lot more willing to make peace? I mean Vita hasn't even bothered to build a navy to cross the 2 water tiles it would take to attack me. He just occasionally sends a trireme or two which I promptly sink. It's just weird!

i've definitely noticed some weirdness around this issue too. it's really common to see the AI go from making some completely unreasonable demand in order to make peace early in the war, and then, after many turns of not backing down from that demand, suddenly decide that the war's lost, and switch to offering you everything short of capitulation. it seems there's no middle ground.

~ i have a slave who can be upgraded to a mechnos grenadier
~ as was reported earlier, i built a random unit who started with the mutated promotion, (no i don't have access to chaos mana). i can provide a save if it'd help, it's very minor in the scheme of things though.
 
Hi again guys, sorry for not being more active here. I try to spend the little time I have to take care of Orbis, doing some little changes to provide Opera with 0.30 base. It will make LENA ready when new Orbis is (or a bit later). I am already late at that... Sorry Opera :(

Now to the bugs reported (sorry if not all are adressed here)

AI issue - I know, and I simply hate tweaking AI. If only I knew where exactly it is broken. Anyway, not my fault, it was that way even before I meesed it up more... ;)

Exploring bugs, wrong promotions avaliable etc it might be caused by leftover files, not right base FfH when you install Orbis and such. I think removing both FfH & Orbis (including manual removal of mod folders in BtS/mods subdirectory and then clean install: FfH 0.41 -> 41j > Orbis 24i > 24P should make your new games fine (not sure about the old saves).
It is really complicated to install Orbis at the moment. Hopefull it will be better at 0.30 (and if not, it might help find any other causes). And don't worry, the installer just contains all the files from FfH (though reviewed and cleared), but the script is the same. If you can install 0.24, 0.30 should not cause any troubles at all (in that regard at least)

I guess you play as mechanos. Refined mana can mutate you too. I think it is displayed in it's description.
Regarding slave thing, slave can upgrade to lunatic, which can upgrade to berserker, and grenadier is mechanos unique berserker. It works strange sometimes it seems - skipping religious prerequirement.

I have a question regarding your changes for the Scions. Getting rid of Melante; fine since she rarely seemed to do anything. However, what is the reason anyone would go for Korrina the Black? You already have Thelemoch for recon and Korrina the Red seems a much better bet. Am I missing some sort of super-secret Scion tactic with Korrina the Black?
 
Hmm, not sure, but she gets some nice bonuses in haunted lands...
Also, now she will be a bit better, as both red & black versions (or rather, both dark empathy & defender of the empire one) get undying. So at fanaticsm they will both get 6/5 strength (both for black/empathy it is 5/4 +1 death) and immortality. Only differences will now be: the combat bonuses of red one compared to haunted lands specials plus 2 first strikes & 10% withdrawal of black

Was the city you tried to add awakened to at happy cap? You can't add awakened if it would make city unhappy.

Oh, is that why I sometimes can't add Awakened to certain cities?!?!? :hammer2:

Heh, I guess that sort of goes with your comment on why you felt the need to explain the Scions better.

BTW, not a bug but a Scion suggestion. A 1 population Scion city is a bit different than a 'normal' population 1 city. It would be nice if you had the option to raze these 1 population Scion cities rather than have them automatically go.
 
Had an odd error that I won't be able to test for a bit. I got my old "Godzilla" laptop out of the shop and I think my Civ is corrupted since it doesn't play w/o crashing but I can play it via steam. So I delete the old version and then download the new FfH and put it in the steam folder. Yet when I try to put in Orbis, it tells me it can't because I don't have FfH! I 'ignored' this and put it in anyways. Hopefully when I'm up and running the game via steam, the Orbis will know where to look for FfH.

UPDATE: Okay, I'm having real problems. I fired up vanilla Civ IV and everything works fine. However, I have a MAJOR GAME KILLING problem w/BTS as well as with Orbis. For some reason, even before my computer crashed and I had to get a new motherboard, when I would try to play BTS, I'd get these quick ghost images of large point triangles. I've seen these before w/graphics problems. Anyway, the screen flickers a bit and then eventually crashed to black (with the music still going) and often I have to do a hard reboot to get it out of the program.

This was happening when I had the hard installation of Civ and not just going through steam. Any ideas? Did I screw up a graphics element of my computer? Previously games like Plants vs Zombies would work while Civ didn't and L4D would crash as well. Now at least L4D(2) works but BTS is still hosed.

Secondly, I tried to fire up Orbis but I got all sorts of errors; I'm pretty sure for some reason Orbis can't figure out that the info it needs in inC:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2. However, I don't have this problem on my wife's machine. Could this be a XP vs. Windows sort of bug?

Anyway, I'm sure the FfH to Orbis thing is relatively easy to figure out. But I can't figure out why BTS graphically crashes yet a played a few turns in vanilla Civ and it was fine.
 
You can escape from a cage using the divide soul ability, however the unit will still be considered Held, so he can't move on his own.

Walking a unit to the cage at a later time and then using release from cage while the captured troop is not there will not remove the held promotion, causing it to become permanent.

Also Elohims have some missing images (scouts, archers) - their icons show up as pink squares and the units are red hemispheres.
 
The hide ability on ghosts and Rathus is broken, as in, it does not work.

They start with the hidden promotion but once you used it up there is no way to restore it. Using the ability has no effect.

You didn't install correctly, uninstall everything and try again, making sure you have compatible versions.
 
In my last game I got an absurd amount of the goblin event. I was constantly fighting goblins and got it like maybe 5-6 times. Fairly annoying.

There is also a bug where if you pick the third option it has a chance to spawn both a hostile goblin and a friendly one. I don't know what causes this.

I think I have all the latest versions (BtS 3.1.9, FfH2 0.421d, Orbis 0.24i). By saying "uninstall everything" you mean uninstalling BtS and FfH or only the Orbis mod?

FFH2 is on patch J, and Orbis is on patch P.

By everything I mean all the mods you're trying to play, in this case FFH2 and orbis.
 
Anyone going to help me out on my potential graphic problems? Come on, I know you want to help me. Think of it as a birthday gift for me. (Sure it's tomorrow but I'll take any info early!)

I don't know if I understood it correcly. Problem you are describing (increasing number of artifacts, flickering and then black screen) sounds like an overheating video card. You can check it with free SpeedFan ( http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php ). If it is the case, this might be caused by wrong drivers installed, but much more possible is that either card is not working as it should or your computer's cooling is not working as it should (because of dust, possibly)
 
I think Kalina is on the right track Arkham4269. CIV 4 is pretty good at overheating graphic cards, it wasn't until I upgraded mine that I could even play at large maps at all. Try starting a game on a smaller map and see if the problem remains.
