OSG5 - Paranoid Communists

Well, seems like me and dathon didn't worry too much about early war :) Deuterium was definitely a mistake, and Dead bases was probably too ambitious too.

Now in 2004. Things have a sudden upswing! I'll finish and post later.

I hope that means peace with the meks.... You know, I think we CAN fight the klackons... maybe if we get a couple of their planets....

-Maniac

Uh oh, I stink at early war. Better hand me the victory in a silver plate Marshall :)

Heh. I like early war. Pru doesn't understand why I love warp 3 npg fighters and fusion bombers. (I'm an Alkari at heart  )

Stop laughing, I'm serious!

The Klackons also suck at ship designs usually....

Probably wishful thinking, but who knows.

-Maniac

2400:
Increased research spending from 0. This is not a good ammount to be spending on research when you are level 1 in
computer tech!

Sent population to Lenin to help it grow quickly, its our only hope to catch up some research.

Paladia and Proxima look doomed.
----------------------
Paladia is attacked by 3 large Meklar ships, 23 fighters and 2 mediums inflict minimal damage before fleeing.

An unkown spy destroys 2 missile bases on Moscow! Our low computer tech is blamed.

Paladia is bombed and loses 3 million, 7 million are killed at proxima.
------------------------
2401:
Our lack of any polution control tech combined with the reservers means we have very little spendable income from any of our planets. High fleet upkeep costs aren't helping. And as the fleet is largely useless I decided to scrap our colony ship, its not like it could go anywhere anyway.

Our fleet is equipted with retros which means they are essentially useless. Without scanner tech we have no idea where their fleets/transports are going as they have us encircled and we can't get there in time even if we knew.

Things look dire.

Paladia is bombed again. Proxima gets a small reprive, but the transports are closing in.
--------------------------
2402:
I try to find somewhere to evacuate Proxima to, but there is nowhere with spare capacity and no hostile fleet overhead. They will have to fight to the end for the Darlock Empire!

Paladia evacuates to Proxima in the hope of defending it in time.
---------------------------
Meklars bring reinforments to Paladia, now its 9 large ships.
Quayal comes under attack:- 6 large ships against 4 bases.

Scanning reveals that they have death spores, heavy ion cannons and even level 5 shields on one of their designs.

Hyper-V rockets were not designed for this! I manage to take down both tornados before losing my last base.

Orbital bombardment at Paladia kills 23 million, Quayal loses 12 million to the biologial weapons. I don't think there is much we can do against this horde.

22 Klackons land on Proxima, and conquer it with 1 remaining! They steal Improved Industrial Tech 9.
----------------------------
2403:
There are plenty of undefended Melkar worlds to the south, but we can't invade them as that would taint our empire. I am not sure how to proceed, as with the varient rules we don't really have any options. Better to die a Darlock than succum to the Meklar scum though!

We nearly have MarkII Battle computers!
----------------------------
2404:
Quayal suffers another bombardment of 9million. The Meklar contact us! they want peace!
I agree, and they give us nuclear engines!
Transports are still en-route to Proxima which is now under Klackon control. The menacing Klackon fleet will probably destory them though.

As all our ships are now compleatly obsolete, I design a new ship armed with only hyper-V rockets.
-----------------------------
No Bombarding for once! a quiet turn.
-----------------------------
2405:
Meklar invade and take over Paladia, 15:11. We kill 4.

They steal Hyper-V Rockets. I thought we were at peace? Ah well. Hopefully they will be content with their gains against use for now.
Klackons offer peace! We have transports on route, but its probably worth accepting.
1 Venom is produced.
2406:
Tranports to proxima are all killed by orbital defences.

At least this won't mean war.
Time to start maxing our our factories on Quayal after the bombardment and get research going on Lenin. I transfer money with both of these aims.
2407:
Quiet turn, carry on building factories. We have a 1% chance of Mark II Computers!
2408:
Divert more funding, get a base back up on Quayal and finish undoing most of the horrific bioweapon damage done by the meklar.
------------
Meklar Transports landing on Quayal were all destoryed.
Now we both have nothing on route we should stay at peace, hopefully.
--------------
2409:
Last year, set spending plans in place. Hopefully we will have MkII Battle Computers soon possibly opening up Robotic Controls. The new computers will make our ships a lot more effective and we need to start re-building a fleet now. At least with Nuclear engines they can actually get places.
---------------
Kholdan becomes fertile, but contact is broken with the klakon empire in the same turn. I suspect the Meklar are the blame. At least its 1.2% less spying to spend our money on now!

I see that I'm up. The news of peace is good, but less good than I'd hoped. I've got a headache atm, so I may not play tonite.

All is not lost, but we have to hope for a stalemate between the silicoid and meklar empires for now. If that occurs and lasts for centuries, we might be able to pull this one off... MIGHT.

Well, where there's life, there's hope, right?

Not much, I'll admit, seeing as the Meks are likely to get POed at our spying again real soon (Xenophobes hate being spied upon), but there you go...

I think we should have rushed computer tech, then we could have framed lots of people to keep all the other races at war with each other.

With no computer tech at all we are much less likley to get a framing. :(

I don't know about that. The meks would probably have eaten the Klackons, and we don't know the other 2 races. Getting people into revolt will help slow them down eventually.....

I'm going to play in the morning. Twelve hour work days are brutal :(

Ok, don't expect a highly indepth report here... I'm not sure where to go with that. In reading the earlier reports, I THOUGHT we still had 4 planets.... With 3 planets I'm not sure we have ANY chance.

We have NO hope of battling the MEklars for at least a century, and don't have contact with anyone else anymore.

I disagree with our reseaerch priorities. Force Fields and Weapons?? Ordinarily, I agree with Force Fields, but in this case.... If the Meklars come for us, force fields wont save us here. We're too behind.

btw: why on earth are we researching gatling laser? Did we get Hyper-V rockets as tribute or someting? I hope so. I hope we were FORCED to research gats...

I switch research emphasis to planetology, construction, and computers for now

I check on our friends the Meklars and note they are now at war with all 3 other AI. This is good news. I also see they are light years ahead in tech. This is bad news.

My plan for this turn?? Huddle up and pray.

2410 -

2411 -

2412 - Meklars inhabit the TOXIC world near our first 2 planets.

2413 - BCII hits, BCIII research is forced.

2414 -

2415 -

2616 - We get the message that the Meklars nearly controll a majority of the galaxy, inhabit what remains of "our back yard".

2617 - Lennin maxes out, starts on research.

2618 -

2619 -

SOrry if this report is a little less inspiring than the last one, but I couldn't come up with an exciting story for this set of turns.....

Alright, Catwalk! Lead us on to greater glory! Or just try not to get snuffed. Your call. ;)

I don't think we're in danger of snuffage any more. With 3 other AI's to snuff and with them being amiable with little old us, I don't see the Meklar coming for us any more.

It's more likely to be a situation of sitting back, and waiting for the inevitable... Maybe if we can get some weapons and propulsion we can give the Klackons a visit.... beyond that vague hope, I've none to offer. Hopefully catwalk does. :)

No matter what happens from here on out though, don't any one take it too hard. These insane varients tend to bite back sometimes.

Two quick points:
*Agree on the gatlings. I made a similar comment a few posts ago.
*My rational for emphasizing weapons was simply to get some missiles that could shoot down those death spore ships, since we don't have the tech to field anything but tin cans with pop guns. However, if we are back up to amiable (amiable?? how did THAT happen?? ) relations, then I agree the priority is low.

@ dathon - I think voting for him in the senate 2-3 times had that effect :)

Of course, when (if) we finally meet the sillicoids

Catwalk is overdue. If we don't hear from him by tonite (USA time), I'd suggest dathon go ahead and play and catwalk can play after him.

-Maniac

I will play tomorrow morning (USA time) if Catwalk hasn't played by then. On a related note, I'm leaving tomorrow night with my fiancee to spend Thanksgiving weekend with my parents. Who don't have internet or computers worth speaking of  So, if it comes back around to me before next Monday (after I play tomorrow, of course), then consider me skipped. :)

Sorry about that, I have been busy waging war in an online game called Utopia (www.games.swirve.com/utopia). I'm the monarch of my kingdom and it's been fairly demanding. But I'm proud to say that we completely crushed the opposition, their morale was broken after our first overwhelming assault and their monarch offered to surrender way ahead of time.

dathon, please go ahead and take the next 10 turns if it fits best with your schedule.

Utopia..... Well, at least it's not Star Kingdoms!

I used to play SK and Raece Conquest (where I was known as Carthage) till I got tired of putting up with all the multis and idiots =/. Seems once you win a few rounds, people decide to hate you even when you play honorably =/

Erm... I'd play, but Maniac? The save in the file you linked to is old. Racial screen puts it at 2400, start of d0om's turn. I tried his save file, that one was in the right place (2410 at the end of his turn). If you can get the correct save file up by, say, 2pm EST I can play; if not, consider me skipped as well.
