With these settings I'll pick France.
However, these settings could lead to terribly uneven starts. Also, quite a few players picked civs that are hugely impacted by the map parameters. I think it might be better to settle at least on a land mass type and have someone - perhaps our esteemed moderator - check the map and adapt to repair any huge imbalance.

Without babrs you can have your settlers roming around without escort, in the early turns it will speed up the game, also the barbs village for 25 gld comes handy and the veteran promotion for a military civ is good, that is if any will have a military civ...

I can produce a start for the PBEM. I suggest we can play on the honor system that people can request a restart if they draw really terrible terrain (like all tundra).

We could perhaps apply some sort of rule or guidline as to when a start position can be rejected. i.e. if there are less than 5 tiles visible in the opening screen that can produce at least 2 food per turn after improvement of 4 turns or less per tile (ie excludes clearing of jungle or marsh but includes chopping forest and irrigating plains).

I think Aigburth's suggestion is a good one. Otherwise we could go with "at least two cows, game or wheat within nearest 20"

Hey everyone - the cIV MTDG is in danger of dying 
One of the teams - Loco (playing as Gandhi) doesn't have anyone who can play the save. The problem is the 1.74 patch. The mtdg can't patch up, because Aloha (Catherine) is at war with Piffle (Victoria), and the patch reduces Cossacks' bonus against mounted units.
So we need someone who either has a dual install or Vanilla 1.61 who can join Loco and become their new turnplayer.
The game has been stalled for almost a month now, and there's a real danger of it not continuing.
So if anyone can help, please sign up for Loco's team, and familiarize yourself with the current discussion here.
