Normal, temperate, 5 million, standard size, restless barbies, random land mass, random water, emperor. That's my vote.

heck I'm in. :hammer:
Five also is a nice number. Maybe we should call for another donut map? :D

Niklas' settings work for me.

I'd prefer a balanced map, so we should find a mapmaker.

Civ choice by each player posting am ordered list of his favorites and decision like in mtdg?

If we can find a volonteer, sure, but I'm not worried about a random start being too unbalanced.

:agree: I think so yes.

Everything sounds good to me for the pbem. I even like Paul's idea of another donut map. We can do that with a random map, can't we?

Are we really going to play random civs? That's ok with me but could unbalance the game more than an unbalanced map, couldn't it?

No, not random civs. Chosen like for the MTDG was the suggestion on the table.

I don't think you can create a doughnut map without creating your own scenario in the editor.

Agree we should pick a list of top civ choices each then allocate as best as possible as per in the mtdg.

With regards to the map, I think a hand made balanced map would be preferable but as Niklas says who can we get to do this? Anyone know Rik well eneogh in order to have a quite word? If we can't find a map maker then I am happy with Niklas' suggested settings.

Omg, can i still join in this PBEM? i´m average player, but confortable with emperor.

Pls pls pls pls pls pls let me in :mischief: I´m fast turn player.

My civ preferences are:
Carthage
Sumeria
Celts
Egypt
Iroquois

We haven't started yet HB so I think there is still room. I'm still ok with a random map. It'll take longer to get one made.

My civ preferences are:

China
Germany
Maya
Russia
Carthage

Will you put up a map too? Not that we can't figure out the starting map, but still. ;)

Oh, and I think a new thread for this game would be nice so we don't clutter up this one.

Does anybody know any map designers? I don't. :(

My prefered civs are:

1. Byzantines
2. Ottoman
3. Korea :D
4. Dutch (despite van der Vaart  )
5. Sumeria

Preferred civs: -

1. Ottomans
2. Iroquois
3. Maya
4. Sumeria
5. Korea

I was tempted to put down Vikings in case of an archipelego :D

Ok, we just need Cubsfan's and Niklas' civ choices, then we look at getting a map sorted.

Preferred Civs:
Greece
Sumeria
Ottomans.
Iroqouis
Korea

I'm fine with a random map by the way.

With a swing back to the original purpose of this thread… :)

Saw this video today... could be the most fascinating 20 minutes I've had lately.
If you've got the time, check it out!

Debunking myths about the "Third World"

(disclaimer: I've never heard of "TED" – so I don't know anything about it. But this video is fascinating and uses UN statistics, so I didn't perceive any specific agenda either way.)

More Info - from the video description:
Spoiler :
With the drama and urgency of a sportscaster, Prof. Hans Rosling uses software from Gapminder debunks a few myths about the "developing" world. This global health visionary has discovered a powerful new way to communicate complex data about the world; his remarkable interactive graphs help deliver profound insights about global trends and will change forever the way you think about "us" and "them." Rosling is professor of international health at Sweden's Karolinska Institute, and founder of Gapminder, a nonprofit that brings vital global data to life. (Recorded February 2006 in Monterey, CA.) That gapminder software is free, by the way ;)

It's also tremendously informative and fun - edutainment at it's best :D

I first played around with it after reading about it on Foriegn Policy's blog: blog.foreignpolicy.com

I would like to join the PBEM if not too late.
Up to 31 players should not be a problem imo :)

Anyone found a mapmaker yet?

Well the more players, the less important I consider a balanced start. Diplomatic skills, anyone? :D

How about El Menceys 362x362 map :P
