"Outrageous behavior, which only brings shame", to make fun of Obama

People who are bigoted like to nitpick terms about bigotry. It's pretty well known now.

I find that they also like to test the waters and see how much display of bigotry they can get away with.

So it is racist to call a black person an ape, yet apparently we are apes

Yes, we're also mammals, but you don't see rasists calling brown people otters

This is a ridiculous debate. If you say something that you know other people find offensive, and demand the right to say it, your intent is obviously to be offensive.
If comparing certain racial groups to monkeys is known by many people to be considered offensive and racist then calling a member of one of those racial group an ape or a monkey or [insert primate] is racist. Because as you point out, intent matters, and if you know something is considered racially insensitive but you say it anyway then you are being racially insensitive. Which is just a really nice, polite way of saying you are being a miserable, bigoted individual that the species is probably better off without.

but you know, being able to call brown people mean names is important and stuff

Humans are Homo sapiens.

Apes are Pan troglodyte, Pan paniscus, Gorilla gorilla, Gorilla beringei, Pongo pygmaeus, or Pongo abelii.

But we all have the same family in common: Hominoidea.

Ironically, many of the people who claim that evolution cannot possibly exist also claim that blacks are subhumans and refer to them as apes.

This is, of course, the article from the slaves of

Obama is a racist with a deep seated hatred of white people and is NOT a racist and dose not hate white people. Also Hitler.

^Way to miss the Jonathan Swift allusion, bro. :)

Wiki on Gulliver's travels said:
Houyhnhnms contrast strongly with the Yahoos, savage humanoid creatures: whereas the Yahoos represent all that is bad about humans, Houyhnhnms have a stable, calm, reliable and rational society. Gulliver much prefers the Houyhnhnms' company to the Yahoos', even though the latter are biologically closer to him.

This is, of course, the article from the slaves of Houyhnhnms :)

As usual, reading solves many problems.

Russia was never in the black slave trade. It's plausible that she was not aware of the history of this kind of imagery.

That is a very disingenuous argument. The whole "black people = monkeys" thing is considered racist in many western cultures. It's not just an American thing. It's a thing in Poland and other European countries too. Throwing bananas at black soccer players in Europe is a known racist thing that has yes even happened in Russia from time to time.

Fascinating viewpoint you have there.

So if I post that women should have the right to drive, that will offend a number of Saudi's.

So my intent is to offend Saudi Arabians?

I like the irony of someone who doesn't present a counter argument to post this picture.

I think the term is: projection.

I like the irony of the poster ignoring the message in the picture.
I think the term is: denial.

I think the main story here is who posted it. If it was some random person on the internet who had posted that it wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem.

This has been my biggest disappointment about President Obama, I can't make monkey jokes. Yet another reason why I wish Halley Clinton won.

Actually, the message in the picture was a big part of my post. The inspiration if you will.

I can tell you're puzzled, so allow me to expand.
Picture: gain upper hand in debate by shouting racist.
Bugwar: gain upper hand in debate by posting picture.
Ziggy: "irony & projection!"

Now I am puzzled as well. It's about denial. I'm not sure what I have denied. I merely made an observation. So if you'd be so kind to explain that one to me I'd aprectiate it :)

I regret that you are still unsure, though I am at a loss on how to make it any clearer.
Perhaps in time you will gain enlightenment. I wish you luck.

Thanks! :)

And for what it's worth, reading your reply I understand why you'd rather post a picture than make an argument. I withdraw my projection claim in favour of a more plausible one.

Best of luck to you as well!
