P666-04 : Yet Another Trash Game

Sorry for the late voting, I have sent the PM now.
Everyone has played good so it was hard to choose!

One thing I noticed about my game, I had worker idle near the city when it should have been already chopping for the settler

I agree with earlier comments that we should take first enemy out quickly and it should definately be Asoka since he's just north of us. After that, not sure yet. Some more exploring during next turns seems to be good idea. Maybe Japan, but it may be too early to say!

You think that's wierd; we've got a tie for worst game! Over to Captain Cam_H for advise on tie-breaker.

Yep! Traditionally it's been up to the Returning Officer to have the casting vote. I trust you - select away!

If you prefer, we can implement an optional 'The game with the lowest score in case the Returning Officer exercises the right not to use the Casting Vote' rule? I'd still prefer it if you decided, but if not, the lowest score might be a handy tie-breaker.

Score doesn't mean much imo, especially in a warmongering game (no pts for military really). Better to have the RO break the tie. I'm looking forward to the next round. Let's fix some trash.

Chiller and cabert keenly contested the privilege of being declared The Trash Game in 2400bc. Having deliberated I now declare the 'winner' to be cabert for his poorly developed wonder-obsessed entry  .

What happens next is that we all play from cabert's 2400bc save (available on post 17 coz I ain't sussed out links within threads). We play for 40 turns which would take us up to 875bc (or we could play slightly fewer turns up to 1000bc). After everyone's played and posted we vote for the best game at the end of the round.

875BC? OK - 875BC it is!

Cabert's game gives us a pretty reasonable technological base to work from, and heck, part of a Wonder that puts points towards a rather handy :gp: if we went that way. One of the more interesting submissions!

Commentry on Round 1 is welcome in this thread, but restrain yourself from setting out too much of an extensive strategy for future rounds (other than the 'bleeding obvious'). Did you learn anything from the other submissions? Surprised at the differences?

Submissions due at latest by; early-Saturday morning 'American time' (Friday evening in Europe, Friday in Asia, New Zealand, and the penal colony to the west of New Zealand {but at least we can play cricket}). Earlier is fine. Earlier is actually usual. Please ensure your saved games include your 'handle' (name) so we know which game belongs to which player. If you wish to make commentry about your games (Round 1 or 2) - which is encouraged - include comments on Round 2 in spoilers unless you are the final submission on the roster. Use double-spoilers if need be.

An unwritten rule is to semi-pretend that you don't know the map, but if you would have explored under normal circumstances anyway, then there's no issue. Most games in Round 1. had found the close source of Copper, and it's reasonable to play as though it will be found by the end of Round 2 - that is, there's no need to 'deliberately avoid it'.

We will be voting for 'the most successful' submission. Mice will be the Returning Officer for this round when everyone's submissions are posted.

Have fun!

It's true. Sad but true.

Thanks for the half a wall Cabert. Looking forward to playing on from that one.

Happy new year, everybody!
Played my turns, already. Well, I think I did well, based on our Wonder-addicted save.

Spoiler :
I halted the GW and began on a settler and a escort. I realized we didn't need the escort if the exploring warrior came home. But we needed a garrison for happiness issues on Seoul. Anyway, I chopped a settler and chopped the GW right after it. The turn before I founded my second city, Qin went and founded a copper site between Seoul and our new site. But, guess what? I found copper right beside Seoul!
Got Sailing for connecting our cities easily, but I think I'd be better researching AH. Well, now Alpha is too close for me to not trade for AH later. ;)
When our second city popped its borders, I stole Qin's copper. And he got only one axe. We have 3 (next turn one more) and with ths force we'll be able to get that city.
The oracle is due on 4. I think its on the bag.

Take a look at the screenie, if you don't want to look at the save!
Spoiler :

The save:

I've played too, although I won't post until a bit closer to the end of the week. Spoiler contains just a couple of vague notes.

Spoiler :
I settled P'yangyong in a different spot to fbelintani, but I think by the looks of fbelintani's screenie in the double-spoiler that our thinking was pretty much the same Wonder-wise. :)

My game I suspect is strong in terms of technology albeit no Alphabet yet, but just rubbish in terms of exploration (barely more than at 2400BC) let alone military, which is 'wafer-thin'.

Best of luck everyone.

Happy New Year!
Spoiler :
Another similar submission. Second city on cow/clam/copper; border pop pinches the copper. Great Wall built; few cottages; 2 turns from Oracle in Pyonyang; 2 warriors; little exploring. Teching towards construction.

Done to 875.

Spoiler :
Teched wheel pottery, chopped a settler and got the copper one turn before Asoka/China ?
continue wall and tech towards construction. (error; for the construction sling I will finish Mathematics early, which means I should have teched AH on the way).

Next error, forgot to whip an axe into the Oracle, and didnt notice that my poulation could rise by one while building towards Oracle.

Some cottages. Chopped granery in Pyong-Yang, barracks next. Looking for axe- hwacha attack on Asoka/China. Not original , but the best option. Just a bit sloppy in the execution.

Never feel good about putting the Oracle in the captial because of the GProphet points/pollution. Did it anyway. Seoul looks like it'll be a good capital for production.
