P666-04 : Yet Another Trash Game

I played up to 1480 then accidentally over-wrote the temp save I was playing from so I'm gonna hafta skip this round to avoid a replay.

Use an autosave!
If need be, replay the same moves as exactly as possible. I think you're honest enough to not try to give yourself an undeserved advantage, and we're not playing GotM here, we trust you (at least I do!).

I've just had a really good idea ;) . Why don't I load from an autosave  .

IMHO the target for the end of this round is to have only 3 rivals left.
2 would be better, but it may be a bit hard to get there.

IMHO we don't need much more teching, we need units!
Hwachas are still very effective! with CR1,2,3 they rule vs maceman :king:

Yeah catapult units have a long lifespan, very long. In fact they're good until cannons come on board = no down time really.

And, yes, we don't need much more teching. After liberalism it's unit-massing ftw!

Hm.. Guys, I need some advice here...
As cabert says, we have to start our conquering pretty soon. If we can get to 2 rivals left this turnset, we are good to go. So, my question is:
After Qin is toast (and he MUST be the next), what should we do? The "natural" choice here was either Kublai, the score leader, or Asoka, his vassal. So, the options are:
- both of them OR
- ride across Kublai's land and attack Mao and Genghis after him.

The former needs less time, but lots of units. The latter needs less units (for Mao, at least) but lots of time. What would you guys do?

I know I'm free this round, and I'm playing just for fun. But, for my marriage's "life", I have a request: could we do a little shorter turnsets from the next on? There will be a lot of renaissance and modern war.. This takes a while.. Say... 25 or 30 turns max? Pleeeeeeeeeeeease?

It's very difficult to go across the map in not totally friendly territory, so for me it's Qin, then Asoka (easy!) then Kublai (hard!) then Mao then Gengis.

Same for me. 20, 25 turns would be enough to give my wife something to be angry about, but not enough to go all the way to divorce ;)
+ 25 turns is enough to kill a neighbour!

I have a 1545 AD save for this turn. I would be very favourable to stop there

Here is my save - and it really is here now! Below is a summary of what happened.

Spoiler :
At the discovery of Liberalism, I chose Nationalism, introduced Nationhood and decided to build the Taj Mahal in Seoul. I chose to research Gunpowder. I got Guilds and Music from Genghis Khan for Education.

After discovering Gunpowder, I researched Military Tradition.

1470: Qin declared war on me! That was nice of him, since I was preparing to attack *him*, and in this way, my reputation did not take a beating. My plan was to attack Shanghai from the south, so I had started to concentrate troops there and even moved away some of those in Osaka. That may have given him the idea that Osaka would be easy to capture, which was a mistake, because my plan was for him to throw away his stack outside Osaka through attacking the city, so I kept an adequate garrison there, including elephants; I was also feeding fresh troops (musketmen and the like) into Osaka. Furthermore, Qin frittered away some of his troops by trying to move them past Osaka to attack cities deeper inside my territory. That made it easy for me to wipe them out.

The same year, I bribed Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan with Liberalism to make them attack Qin. Asoka, being a vassal, joined the war too, of course. After that, my chief concern was to keep them from capturing any of Qin's cities before I did. That was successful; they simply wore down Qin's troops and made my task easier for me.

1480: KK demanded gunpowder as a gift - I refused. The same year, I founded Namp'o down among the beavers.
1505: KK was also laying siege to Shanghai, like myself. I was a little nervous that he'd manage to capture it.
1510: I captured and razed Shanghai.
1520: Accepted Open Borders treaty with Asoka.
1530: Captured and razed Tianjin. Captured Chengdu, kept it because it contains Stonehenge.
1545: Having almost finished Military Tradition, I sacrificed my Great Scientist towards getting Printing Press. I also captured and razed Yangzhou.
1550: Discovered MT. Chose to research Banking/Replacable Parts/Rifling. However, cut research to zero for a turn to promote two knights to Cavalry.
1555: Qin made peace with KK. The same year, I captured Nanking and kept it because it contains the Great Lighthouse.
1560: By now had another Great Scientist, used him towards researching Chemistry as well. Decided to finish research of Chemistry before going for Rifling.
Asoka and Genghis Khan made peace with Qin. Pretty soon afterwards, Asoka nullified his vassal treaty with GK.
1575: Captured and razed Shandong.
1600. Captured and razed Kaifeng. End of Qin.
1605. Asoka founded a new city called Hyderabad east of Madras, on former Qin land.
1615: Declared war against Asoka, Hyderabad captured and auto-razed.
1635: Madras captured and razed.
1650: Built Taj Mahal, triggering Golden Age. Siege of Calcutta begins; should be mine in a couple of turns.

I believe Asoka will be history very soon. I'm not in a hurry to finish research of riflemen, having grenadiers and cavalrymen. Also, a military expert in P'yongyang, where I am furthermore building West Point. It will be finished pretty soon. I got another Great General which I attached to a cavalry unit; I have three Warlord Cavalry units. Building Forbidden Palace in Chengdu.

After Asoka, it will be KK's turn. If I don't attack him, he'll attack me. However, diplomatically I am fine at the moment; Qin attacked me, not I him, so no punishment points; and the two Khans like me because "our common military struggle brings us together".

The research allotment can be raised because of Golden Age and increasing number of courthouses and markets, and soon banks too.

Hello all,

I'm hearing that 40 turns per round is too long at this point in the game, and am happy to pull it back to 25 (or even less if the group feels), but given two players have already played to 1650AD, unless they are prepared to 'do a do-over', then I think that it's only fair that at least for this round it should be 40 (1650AD).

Sorry - but I'm having to start to get stricter with the rules. ;)

Well, I agree with Cam. I have a save from 1550 AD ready to go, but as I'm duty free this round it won't matter much.
But I do have another thought... What do you think of making this a two-week round? It will give people more time to finish this and from the next round on we'll take 20-25-30 turns.

I'm happy to consider extending the round for a week if that is popular.

What's the group verdict on that?

I really don't want to play it over again. And while I have no objection to slightly shorter game rounds (though I feel no need for them myself), I think it is a bit unfair to make such a demand for this round.

It's very difficult to go across the map in not totally friendly territory, so for me it's Qin, then Asoka (easy!) then Kublai (hard!) then Mao then Gengis.

I agree. Once Asoka is out of the way, Kublai must be eliminated, and promptly.

Extra week for this set then maybe 20 turns a week? (tho shorter sets make it more difficult to trash the save game or save the trash game, so maybe 40 turns per fortnight?)
